True carnatic music lovers might shrink their eyebrows listening to the fusion part (I did) but that is to drag the western crazy present generation into it. If you watch till the end, Shabana Azmi turns into Sudha Raghunathan herself (What a fusion !) proving that she is indeed Urvashi award worthy. There is nobody like her to do full justice to all sorts of roles. A wholesome experience despite the western irritant. A muslim (Shabana), a persian (Perizaad Zorabian) & a teluguite (Nikhil Thummalapalli) performing for "Thaaye Yashodha" (a tamil song composed by oothukadu venkatasubbaiyer). What more do you want for national integration ?

Me in 2023. The first time I heard Kantara song, I felt so connected with this Thaaye Yashoda from Morning Raga!! I wonder why Thaikudam Bridge even filed a case against Kantara as I feel Navarasam itself was a copy of this version!!
Iam also a Thodi raagam fan...all the songs you mentioned are in this raagam.. however, Kantara song was absolutely inspired out from Thaikudam Bridge,. Even the Hon.Court took expert openion and gave a verdict in favour of the Band Thaikudam Bridge.

I came to know in 2008, about this movie with one of my colleague in Tokyo when stayed for short time. Once my friend played it on a big TV in Yodabashi Camera store in Akihabara. To our surprise, many people belongs to different countries have watched it till end. The power of classic music with reasonable fusion bought beauty. This movie introduced me lot of legends I don't know before that. I feel this is the the best fusion among all the Movies released in India. ManiSharma deserves minimum Padma award for this. Industry not using his talent he has.
