  • Hamish Bond and Eric Murray, on the final session before the Xmas break at the NZ Rowing Summer squad. An erg test is completed by all and this year, Hamish had a crack at the 60minute World Record, and Eric too, on the Half Marathon, 21097m distance.

    I mean the split is insane but it's having the guts to work at a 192 average heart rate for over an hour which is more impressive, his lactate tolerance must be off the chart.

      I am almost 60 and can maintain around 148 bpm for an hour. But almost 200(!) for an hour(!!)? INCREDIBLE.

    The part I find most impressive is Eric's erg technique. Often there is a discrepancy between top rowers erg and water technique, with large layback and high pulls on the erg to get the best score possible, which is completely understandable. Here Eric is erging so fluidly, with the same technique he uses in the pair, and is still ripping an incredible split. What a machine

    Is it me or does hamish look like he had a lot left, sub 180hr avg and 26spm to get 1:37.5, while Murray was in the 190's pulling 30spm for 7min longer to get 1:36.6.....

    • @jellebakker8193

      Different hearts, different type of muscles, different techniques. Both incredible athletes.

  • @12mountain
    @12mountain 9 років тому +15

    I'm surprised they don't count Murray's record as the record. His half-marathon took 67 minutes, and he went 1:36.6, which is faster than Bond's 1:37.5 for 60 minutes. So I would think that Murray's meters at the 60-minute point, while not being indicative of his maximum effort (since he still had another 7 minutes) would be considered the record.

    • @CoDWiiPS3Gameplay
      @CoDWiiPS3Gameplay 9 років тому +4

      Yeah I agree. Eric does have the fastest 60 minute piece ever, a 1:36.1 split, however is was on a dynamic, not static erg, so that record doesn't stand.

    I'm at the point in rowing where 2:00s = long piece
    1:50s = uncomfortable middle between long pieces and threshold pieces
    1:40s = threshold pace (like 2k pace)
    And for me 1:30s is my sprint (maximum fastest)
    Its just crazy to see how my fastest gets moved down the list of speed for them
