ahhhh i-94. the freeway i pass over almost daily. i’ve been saying they need to widen the freeway due to the amount of traffic in ann arbor. needs at least 3 lanes each way. but they are working on a project to create lanes for self-driving vehicles and what not!

That widening and rebuild modernization project on 94 through Detroit is going to be huge. Modern entries, & exits, a fourth lane addition, the removal of grassy slope in favor of a concrete wall, and not to mention all the bridges they have been in the process of replacing. The finished project will be fantastic.

The deep curve at the I-94/Jackson Rd (Old US 12) interchange is very scary especially when you get on the interstate from Jackson Rd going west!

A stretch I drive daily...and it's one of the most poorly designed highways ever.
The I-94 / US-23 interchange is monumentally stupid, especially heading west. First you lose a lane to US-23 NB, and then you have to contend with a non-separated merge/weave lane for entering US-23 SB exiting / US-23 NB entering traffic.
Eastbound isn't free from its share of stupidity, either. The Jackson Rd. entrance ramp to I-94 EB forces you to turn 90 degrees (essentially close to stopping) and then rapidly accelerate to freeway speeds, all along a curve.
Of course both directions need to be widened, but the city of Ann Arbor, who thinks they know better than everyone else, will never allow that to happen. No wonder they call Ann Arbor "25 square miles surrounded by reality".

      Why wouldn’t they allow it?

@@ryanvandy1615Ann Arbor is vehemently opposed to any highway expansion. In fact, just 2 weeks ago, they unanimously voted against (in a more or less symbolic gesture) the addition of an auxiliary lane on US-23 through Ann Arbor. For I-94, though, the city actually has some power to block it, since they've been buying up all the land around the freeway for decades. Eisenhower Park is an example of a long, narrow city-owned "park" along I-94 which would severely hinder any widening effort.
