  • Floppy side view mirrors plague even the best of us. In this video I show you how to fix your broken, floppy, and loose side view mirrors on my Lexus SC400 / SC300 for free (well, for the price of two zip ties). Should also work for other 90's and newer Lexus and Toyota models like the IS300, GS300, GS400, Supra, as well as many other car brands.
    Thanks for watching!

    This is a short fix-it style video, but hopefully it will help people out there with floppy mirror syndrome.

      I've been looking for 6 months to NO avail for this issue! I have 2011 GMC Acadia SLT and clipped my passenger side mirror all the way forward while backing out of my driveway during a very bad hailstorm. It was folded forward, glass broken. I replaced the mirror and the turn signal, heating, everything works BUT I have rubber bands holding the casing together because I'm afraid it'll fall off at high speed. I've been afraid to try to move it back and forth for fear of wrecking the electrical. I've learned basically everything but the info here you provide; the actual names of the parts that are apparently broken (spring and retaining clip.) THANK YOU!!!!! 🙌🙌🙌

    Found it VERY useful. Thank you. Now, some additional tips. The "stem" the spring sits on is metal. You may be able, like I did, to peen the ends over so the clip will once again hold. Putting a nail through - through the middle of a wiring bundle --- isn't super practical. OP reduced the degree of difficulty of doing this job significantly by ripping out all the wiring. "Pounding" a ziplok compressed spring back onto the stem with wires protruding... unlikely w/o damaging the wires. What I ultimately did was cut the spring down by appx. 3/4". There was no way myself AND an adult male helper could compress it and get the clip on at it's original length, without some sort of specialized spring compressor tool used to originally assemble these. Still plenty of tension to hold the mirror in place. Thanks again to OP as there was no way I would have known what needed to be done without his helpful video. Now it's your turn!

    awesome..you did exactly what I did a year ago. I just compressed the spring with a wooden furniture clamp and set the nail in. Nice vid! I swear thats a 90lb valve spring they used!

      This perhaps explains the Four-runner I bought missing an exhaust valve spring!

    Man. I just got done doing this with my 2010 is250 and it fully works! So grateful. Subbed. Even used the nail for the pin. Thank you so much.
    NOTE: We didn't remove the whole mirror in its entirety; we just removed the housing and used portable clamps instead of a vice grip.

    Rusty shakelferg here so did this with my stepdad but the strips to hold the spring didn't do the trick so we just cut off a bit of the spring still worked and we didn't chop off the wires thanks for the vid

    1:55 - I do that with my shots all the time! So frustrating to come across when editing since you can't do anything about where the camera was aimed at that point.
    4:14 - I am filled with unease.
    Nicely done overall! I definitely feel confident tackling one of these jobs if one ever comes my way.

    Nice fix. Subaru uses similar folding mirrors, but I have never seen one get floppy. Wonder how the mechanism differs.
    My one confusion is why you wouldn't want to keep power mirrors, but if that part of the harness is already gone, obviously no need.
    Didn't realize I hadn't seen this episode until now!

    • @FullySpooled
      @FullySpooled  6 років тому +2

      Well I could have kept the power mirrors. They would be sort of useless though without any buttons inside the car to adjust them. :)
