Steven Universe helped me realize it was ok to be queer, autistic and that my disability didn't make me less of a person, helped me deal w my abusive mom, every time i go back to it it's like a warm hug. They have truly changed the art landscape for many artists, including myself. It has truly given the lesson to always create and be open to where those creations can take you. Also thank you SVA as a school for encouraging students to have their own voice. I'm going to be graduating for my associates but I've always admired the work that comes from your school and if its in my path would love to transfer as I'm sure many other artists in the comments can agree ♥
I’ve been drawing since I could hold a pencil, and I’ve been watching cartoons for even longer. There was a time I stopped for a while though. I felt like the pursuit of art was outlandish. I also stopped watching cartoons in order to finally "grow up" - despite still being a child at the time. Steven Universe was the TV show that pulled me completely out of that mindset. For the first time in my life, I really felt the impact of animation as a media. I picked up my pencil again, restarted my journey, and since then I haven’t stopped. Now I have numerous projects, and plan on furthering my artistic skills in college- SVA being my first pick. If you guys ever see an application under the name Eden these next couple of years, chances are it might just be me! ❤️

I will always be saying that it is truly a C-R-I-M-E how Steven Universe is not recognized enough for its impact, such as a cartoon but also for its emotional importance. SU was definitely something else in the cartoon scenario. it inspired and changed many other cartoons that came at the same time or after it, and nobody seems to be talking about this. Rebecca literally opened more space for diversity in cartoons. And what to say about the landscapes?? God just look at that quality! Steven changed animation, and for me it should be more respected for that.
People don't understand that, unfortunately. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but most of steven universe reception was poisoned by youtuber discourse and hot takes. some people can't deal with a work of art as a work of art if it doesn't perfectly mirror their morals or defined tastes. I think steven universe was a very intelligent and inventive show. The crew was brave for following their hearts, tell the stories they wanted to tell and not what the audience wanted to hear. We need more stories like that. Like I said, it's sad that because of those reasons people stil deny the impact su had on cartoon history (especially in regard to LGBT+ representation)

Rebecca Sugar, alongside their characters, allowed me to figure out who I am. That led to me loving animation and loving writing stories. I have so much to thank them for. ❤
Rebecca Sugar was a huge part of my childhood. Steven Universe literally changed how I view storytelling and relationships, I even moved away for University at the end of Steven Universe Future which was perfectly timed. It's like she knew the age range of people who grew up with the show and wanted to give us who stuck with it for all these years (through the hiatuses hehe) a farewell (and a punch in the feels). She also wrote the best Adventure Time episodes, namely the ones with the fire music and the mature stories (her style is either "crush our soul" or "make us feel warm"). Not to discredit the other writers on these shows, but Rebecca is just built different at making serious topics resonate to any age. I even got into music theory and Guitar because of some of the songs she's worked on. It's Over Isn't It is literally a Jazz standard, Escapism is the first full song I learnt on Guitar and What Am I To You/Do You Remember Me taught me what chills were as a 10 year old lol. I know I probably won't make much original stuff but it's one of my favourite hobbies to just learn songs I like. I don't think I would ever go into story writing or art, since it's not my thing, but I love imagining the number of amazing writers we'll have in the future who have Rebecca Sugar as an influence.

Y'all might wanna be careful about art schools, even if someone you like went there. In my experience, it did not deliver the promises I wished and the teachers there really aren't geniuses. You can be a great artist and still struggle to do it as a job.
