I sold a lot of other watches and thought to myself that this is the one. it has been the One for 3 years or so now and it traveled with me around the world since. my trick is, if i get bored of it, i get new bezels and straps for the watch. this works perfect for me. I can 100% confirm that this is the true king of G's.
I think the GWM 5610u is best - it’s same as the 5000 except different strap, difference case back and way cheaper. Also the 5610 is a little smaller. Internally it’s the same as 5000. So why pay more ?
I am owner of GW-M5610U-1ER and it is perfect!!! I let it without sync to radio signal of atomic clock and after 13 days it is 1 SEC before correct time I am getting on internet!!!
I have this for more than a year now & it still looks bnew.. I have given the 35th anniversary square g-shock to my older brother & it is more than 5 year old now.. It is not a tough solar but it is still running with the ofiginal battery.. How much more longer will my tough solar gw-5000u will last if the regular battery already has very long bsttery life.. 😊.. I am very sure this gw-5000u will outlive me & I guess even my son.. 😊😊.. Very nice review by the way.. God bless.. 🙏🙏
I have one and can honestly say, that it's probably the only watch one would ever need, maybe besides a dress watch, cause it's very informal looking. I traveld with mine this year through several countries and it never let me down. I like the multiband 6, the world time functions. Its really the perfect travel watch.
i just got mine today in the mail. its my first gshock and i think its great. easy to set up and fits nicely. i doubt i will use world time or alarms but the waterproof and solar and atomic clock are great features. the band fits nicely too.
I bought my GW-5000 brand new straight from Japan in 2019 …paid more than I could afford and waited a couple of months for it to arrive… I have a fairly large G Shock collection and this is my number one watch… the only additional I’ve made besides some scratches and scuffs is a bull bar…I love this watch more than a grown ass man should. At some point I’m going to buy another one and outfit it with the weathered metal case and band that I’ve seen online…also not cheap. Thank you for reminding me of what a special watch is on my wrist as I write this… Roll Tide 🅰️
I have it . I’ve had the older one the 5000 and let it go . Now I have this U it’s great. . I get bored sometimes as it’s a little vanilla but always come back to my senses as it’s the best one all round .
This is the one. I love it. I added J&K bullbars and an OEM combi to it. I have had many high-end squares throughout my collecting life. All the heavy hitters. This is one (along with my 35th anniversary gold) are ones I could not let go of when I did my pair down / new direction of the sub collection. I am glad I never sold it. Regrets - probably the TVA - which I want to add back in 2024. Another great video - keep up the great work.
*I never thought of the monochrome look as having that, “Look here jack, this one here is for the serious big boys.” The red stripe, yellow and blue color on the original DW5600, GW5610, and GW5610U are aesthetically pleasing for me to look upon. I have this model and without those colors it appears boring. But thanks for the new perspective on the monochromatic scheme.* *Moreover, I’m a sucker for screw backs. And man, that dog-gone strap feels lovely on the wrist. It’s as supple as can be.*
I agree. I have both, and I reach for the 5610U (with Ti mod kit) more frequently bc it is more interesting to look at. Even though there's something neat about the greyscale face if the 5000U... like a secret handshake; if ya k ow, ya know. But man oh man, that metal core + screw down caseback... 😌 Nothing like it. Considering getting the "Mecha Armor" Ti mid kit for the 5000U
I can’t like the monochrome face, I know it’s a stunning watch with steel core and the module, but I am old enough to rememember that days in the 80’s and love the aesthetic from back then. The DW5600 yellow/blue and the red line DW5000 and GW5610. But I like the grey letters, I never feel comfy with the white lettering on squares. The gold on your DW5000 is stunning. I did the same with my DW5030-1
Just received mine yesterday, used of course. It’s it worlds different as far as construction compared to a standard 5600. The screen appears more legible in an odd way. Very comfortable band clearly made of different materials. This will be my long term EDC. I wish I knew about this model sooner, would have saved me time and money in trying various watch types, companies and models. 👍
Thank you for the review, I agree 100% and it is my go to watch. I did upgrade it more with the Casio Gen 2 bracelet and Jays and Kays Bull Bars. The color scheme is more business appropriate and takes away the kids watch colors which I know many do like, but not me. The screw back, steel case gives it the heft that does add a quality feel and certainly makes it even tougher. I like made in Japan as well it to me says quality which it is.
I'll stick with my 5610, same 20 bar water resist, looks like the same strap to me, and a bit of color on the dial. Why do you need a screw-back case on a solar powered watch?
It’s a DLC coated stainless steel case, what will last the longest, a resin case with 4 tiny screws keeping it together or a massive stainless steel case ? And what does the type of case have to do with the fact that it is solar powered? Following your analogy, Seiko and Citizen should stop making solar powered dive watches…?
I've got the 5610 with combi bracelet ( which I love) I've been looking at getting a GW5000U but struggle to justify spending £200 on another square, but I think that day is getting closer.
I would love if Casio offered the GW-M5610U with a metal case and caseback. That would be my perfect G-Shock square as I prefer its retro looks over the more monochromatic GW-5000U.
The quality of your videos is amazing. I have a tip for the Snooze alarm, you can deactivate it holding the mode button instead of going into the alarm menus and deactivating it.
I've had the GW-5000 for a few years. I like it and think it is worth the price. I also like that it flies under the radar. If someone spots it, you know you're talking to a Casio buff. But to be honest, it is the least comfortable square in my collection ( I've spent more on squares than I care to think about).
Agreed, this is the one to get even though my other hobbies prevent doing so these days. Instead, I acquired some weird ones awhile back such as the GB-5600AA "Vibrator" (a defective design, as it won't vibrate nor even run its backlight without battery error) but damn does it have a nice STN display and the classic Square's colorway. Another I enjoy is the GW-5600J shown in my UA-cam avatar. It's the oddball model with the forward hump that requires a unique bezel ... I found the red one.
Casio digital watches are possibly the best watches period! Keep very accurate time and are very tough. Now the drawbacks. The wrist bands fail fairly quick. Batteries of course. But the main problem is bo Sapphire glass. They get so scratched you can't see the time after a while. For the price. Untouchable!
Almost perfect I just wish buttons, screws, and buckle were DLC coated as well. Liked old backlight style better but this is not bad. Would be nice if it was on both sides of screen for semetry instead of just left side. In future a MIP version but with exact same fetures it currently has no extra BS would be cool.
Owned one but sold it: ultimaltely because it didn't excite me (too boring) but also because it's a bit top heavy and the buttons are stiffer compared to resin models. I prefer the much lighter S5600U with titanium back for outdoors / sporty use and my full metal squares for office wear. I do recommend trying it though as many swear by it and it's a popular model so easy to sell again.
I have owned both and much preferred the S5600U.High speed graphics, carbon fiber strap,ti screws and caseback,it weighs practically nothing, and it's definitely not boring.
Got this as my first g shock and so glad I spent the extra money iv compared it to a lot of my friends g shocks and can honestly say U can feel a big difference of quality Anyway if U just want 1 g shock get this U won't be disappointed
12 years ago i bought a gw6900 ( made in china ) some years later i bought a gw5610 inverted display , nice caseback (made in Thailand ) last year i bought the gw5000u . like you said its the submariner of digital watches . and exactly like you said it feels better on my 7.5'' wrist because i usually wear mechanical watches . and for that exact reason i have combi bracelets for all of them . i even bought a steel bracelet for my prw-2500 for that reason . love all of them and wearing them depends on the clothes im wearing that day . but the 5000 feels the best when wearing it . by the way i live in southern greece and they pick up signal everynight . for some reason the 5000 misses couple of days from a month while the 6900 never misses a signal even when its stacked away hidden in the money safe box maybe because its full metal ?
Hi man! Despite following your channel since long time ago, I own only one G-Shock, the GW6900 which I love. I was confident this would have been the only one but now you make me think twice. I might fall for this one, especially after abandoning the idea of buying a Frogman, which I find marvelous, but outrageously expensive.
I have this exact watch. I agree with everything you said, the only thing I would criticize are the buttons. Not sure if there are any aftermarket larger buttons? I think I read somewhere on Reddit someone used a drill to make the holes bigger but I don’t want to go that route. Will probably just live with what it is, a very good Square.
Eww... NO. -I mean, "yes" buy a 5000U, for sure.- Edit: I see you have, great choice. But "no", don't drill out the bezel. A rational person doesn't buy a brand new Porsche and rip out the steering wheel & gear shift bc it's not the same as what they're used to on their Accord or Camry.
As always another great video. The change of the backlight, and the additional weight of the screwed in back case is going to be a hard pass as well as the cost. I own the 5610-1 with its "old" features and I could not be more pleased. I have no intention of unscrewing the back plate, and once on my wrist, I can't tell if the strap is premium or not.
I have an old 5610 as well, but this watch calls to me. I wish they made a 5610 with the 'premium' materials of this watch. I'm talking about the colors and design of the face of 5610.
This is a great watch, I have the metal GMW-B5000D-1ER and I love it. But this one is more original. My favorite module is the one found in the G-7800 which is still in my collection and is very customizable. I would like to see a new watch with that module.
I have a small analogue Gshock, and I like it because with the analogue hands, you never have a problem with viewing angle (AWG M100). I also find that the brightness of the LCD depends on the charge of the solar battery.
I’ve ordered this one twice and returned it both times. The heaviness of the case makes it feel unbalanced and the buttons in that module feel sluggish. The sum of the parts just don’t add up for me. The 5600E1V is my favorite square. All you need, nothing you don’t
Great video. Love your tutorials. This model has been the key piece of my G Shock collection along with my "CasioOak"'s and a GA 700 SE. The GA 700 SE is 50+ mm and is just too big for my wrist. I'd like to sell it at some point as I never wear it.
I bought this watch several months ago and I use it regularly. What can I say? Legendary model in the best edition! No doubt! To be pedantic: colours on this model are not monochromatic! There are more colours than just B&W palette! Look carefully on area around Tough Solar (where Casio logo, "mode" , "adjust", "light", "receiving" words are located) - it is greyish brown/brownish grey. Plus: red line under "Shock Resist".
Hey man! Maybe you'd be interested in newer, slimmer Pro Trek models like PRG\PRW series or the digital\analog ones... I mean that as a request. They sure have peculiar operation guides and functions I personally miss in classic (or upgraded) squares. I've owned some Casios and now have a retro one. Was planning the next one to be a solar square, since the new module is finally good. But with those intentionally limited strap options they scare me away. Been looking at the digital pro trek series and they seem good, but I'm confused by Casio's decisions on what models which region of trade receives. Also, they seem to move from metal lugs to plastic ones, and I want to avoid plastic lugs, they deteriorate much faster than the rest of a watch, and I've had cracks and worn out pinholes before.
I mean, I get it, it's not exactly your topic of interest considering what your chanel is about. But weirdly nobody seems to talk about new Pro Trek watches nowadays and I think it's a shame...
I own atleast ten G-Shocks. My top 3 in random order is GW5000U Square, GW-9400-1 Rangeman and GWG-2000-1A1 Mudmaster. GW5000U Square is a great G-Shock but perhaps the Rangeman is the king of all G-Shocks.
@@Nightmareman3 I also own GWG-1000-1A1 and it somehow stopped working after one year. Personally I haven't had problems with my Rangeman or the other 2 G-Shocks I mentioned before.
@@Nightmareman3 Bought it brand new maybe 2-3 summers ago. Never bothered to find out what's wrong with it because I have a small collection of other watches. Maybe it overheated while charging on a hot and sunny day. The GWG-1000-1A1 is currently in my watch box. Maybe someday I'll take it to the authorized Casio dealer so they can take a look. Thinking about selling it anyways after I bought the 2000 model. I like G-Shocks but most of the time I wear Seiko "Arnie" SNJ025 or Luminox Atacama 1944.
Rangeman has the best digital module out of any G-Shock, but the build quality is the worst out of all Master of G watches. For me, the Frogman is the undisputed king of digital G-Shocks, whereas as the Mudmaster is the undisputed king of analogue/ana-digi G-Shocks.
Why they didn't put the better buttons on this and the upgraded screen that the metal ones get, baffles me.. it would be an instant buy for me in that case.
Can you recommend a strap similar in quality to the gw5000 that will fit a g shock gwm 5610u? Just looking at the casio straps, it doesn't look like the gw 5000u strap will fit a gwm 5610u watch? Is this correct?
I got it, but I must say that I don't understand the hype. Maybe my 5610 strap was already broken in enough, so there wasn't any discernible difference. I guess it would make sense if you don't wear the watch every day and just want "extra comfort" immediately, but again, I couldn't feel any difference vs. a year-old strap on a daily wearer.
@@notsure8066 I got mine from that UK shop that is favourably mentioned on WUS and Reddit, it's called ticktock or something like that. So I don't think it was swapped. Also the clasp says "japan" on it. As I said before, maybe my original strap was already broken in, so there wasn't much difference to the 5000 strap. If I was to compare it to a factory fresh 5610 strap, maybe I would notice a difference.
Nice review but you seem to have the same problem has me on my gw5000U the screen or the module isn’t straight on the lower right side. I’ve sent it to Time central those who fix watches for Casio in Canada they weren’t able to see it. Even some Casio employees took a look a it and say nothing is wrong with it.😮
G5600 E is really bad at water resistance. After purchasing Within 3 or 4 months of normal usage it had fog and water vapour inside obstructing the time view. Too bad. It did not have any good quality water proofing mechanism. It's having water droplets again inside the glass even after repair from Casio service center. Really Disappointed.
My 'only g-shock" model is GST-b100... though - as you can tell - i am watching videos about g-shocks which means it is REALLY hard to stop by "just one" 🤣🤣
It is the same. Made at the same factory in Japan. The only difference is the intended market. I got the -1ER from Amazon UK site, bought from seller Amazon EU so it came from Germany.
I only have one Gshock, GWM5610, I love it but would love the higher quality strap and bezel. I don't want to own two equal looking Gshocks because I would probably only wear the 5000 and I'm not really into hoarding watches (I got 5 and all are different style and purpose). I can't sell 5610 because it's a gift from my gf. Is there a way to purchase the bezel and strap fron 5000 and fit it ti 5610? Or does anyone know if there are some 3rd party higher quality Gshock parts which keep the original look but up the material quality
First class Japanese goods sell local, second class Japanese goods sell Europe and America, third class Japanese goods sell Asia Pacific. This sentence was first said by SONY when it was still doing CDS and MD, and has been spread to the present, if there is a Japanese K or H, and there is no screw in the back cover, this watch can not be wrong, GW-5000 I have taken 5 years, very good
As much as I like this, I would prefer this to have the full metal bluetooth square module with STN display and sapphire crystal. With these features, steel inner case and larger buttons, it would have an extra clear display, and all functions could be set with a smartphone. I'll probably end up with one of these anyway.
The GMW-B5000 ticks all your boxes, except the Sapphire Glass crystal. However, there's an MRG version of the square with everything you want. But, the price is very high.
Yes, I tried, but couldn't get used to steel bezel and bracelet combo! I understand it's appeal, but it's more got "flexing" and being flashy, THIS one is a true "old school" Gshock done in a premium way
@@WatchGeekthanks for your feedback. The only things this 5000u could have done to be perfect is STN display for better viewing angle and larget buttons. I got the 5610u which I like a lot but it’s lacking comfort and premium feeling for an everyday watch… still hesitating to buy an upgraded model.
Everything that you said is true....but there's always some strange need to buy one more...just one more. They could put just a touch of colour around the screen, but that's just my personal preference.....that's just 50 shades of gray now, but ok, it's not bad. You know what croatians say.......a crown wouldn't fall down from their head. 😀😀😁 Like
Sorry but I think 5610 beats the 5000 Most bang for the buck on a watch period. Part of getting Casios is not being a sucker and overpaying. It's a peoples watch. 30%lighter and 0.5mm thinner. The 5610 is just lighter and more comfortable. As for design I'm a sucker dot the red cicle in the dial!! I love it. It brings contrast and punch.
Mine arrived today and out of all of the G-shocks I’ve ever owned, this one is perfection… the difference between my GW- M5610U (which I also love) and this one is light years, best buy in a long long time 🫶👊💥
I have a solar G Shock.

5610U: Because I love the red accents :P
It's totally authentic to the g-shock mission, and it's a quality timepiece without excesses. Casio, it's about being subtle, not a fashion statement.

@@TheBlondygirl69High speed graphics?
Got this as my first g shock and so glad I spent the extra money iv compared it to a lot of my friends g shocks and can honestly say U can feel a big difference of quality
Anyway if U just want 1 g shock get this U won't be disappointed
I have just bought one and wearing it right now.
12 years ago i bought a gw6900 ( made in china ) some years later i bought a gw5610 inverted display , nice caseback (made in Thailand )
last year i bought the gw5000u .
like you said its the submariner of digital watches .
and exactly like you said it feels better on my 7.5'' wrist because i usually wear mechanical watches .
and for that exact reason i have combi bracelets for all of them .
i even bought a steel bracelet for my prw-2500 for that reason .
love all of them and wearing them depends on the clothes im wearing that day .
but the 5000 feels the best when wearing it .
by the way i live in southern greece and they pick up signal everynight .
for some reason the 5000 misses couple of days from a month while the 6900 never misses a signal even when its stacked away hidden in the money safe box
maybe because its full metal ?

This was my favorite watch until I got my 1st GWM-B5000. The 5000U is a legend, for sure.
Hi man! Despite following your channel since long time ago, I own only one G-Shock, the GW6900 which I love. I was confident this would have been the only one but now you make me think twice. I might fall for this one, especially after abandoning the idea of buying a Frogman, which I find marvelous, but outrageously expensive.
I have this. It’s almost perfect except it needs an stn screen, bigger buttons, and a sapphire glass to be a one and only watch
Would I like to own this watch, yes. Do I think that the 5610 which has the same movement and is half the price is a better buy.... yes.
I hope i get that one someday,I had a vintage solar G5600E,hoping to get one of this someday, eventhough my wrist quite big now for a square g shock
This is a great watch, I have the metal GMW-B5000D-1ER and I love it. But this one is more original. My favorite module is the one found in the G-7800 which is still in my collection and is very customizable. I would like to see a new watch with that module.
Wanted to love this watch, strap is amazing, but had some really bad viewing angles that drove me nuts, ended up selling
Because you can’t turn your wrist?
I have a small analogue Gshock, and I like it because with the analogue hands, you never have a problem with viewing angle (AWG M100). I also find that the brightness of the LCD depends on the charge of the solar battery.
I almost went for this one, but decided upon the Frogman.
It had everything I was looking for in a top quality G-Shock, and I'm still loving it.
I’ve ordered this one twice and returned it both times. The heaviness of the case makes it feel unbalanced and the buttons in that module feel sluggish. The sum of the parts just don’t add up for me. The 5600E1V is my favorite square. All you need, nothing you don’t
The buttons are terrible, although I don't mind the weight.
However, I skipped this one entirely and went for its big brother who likes diving.
The GW-5000U sits with all the other 5000 series G-Shocks in my small collection. Brilliant watch. A G-5600UE is my daily cheapy.
Great video. Love your tutorials. This model has been the key piece of my G Shock collection along with my "CasioOak"'s and a GA 700 SE. The GA 700 SE is 50+ mm and is just too big for my wrist. I'd like to sell it at some point as I never wear it.
Got mine a month ago and its been on my wrist ever since. My skx007 is untouched now haha
Nothing beats a stainless steel, screw-back square!
It happens that this very model was my first g-shock ever, and of course after this one I got lost in the madness of g-shock world :).
Timer repeat finally? or still missing that feature?
I own atleast ten G-Shocks. My top 3 in random order is GW5000U Square, GW-9400-1 Rangeman and GWG-2000-1A1 Mudmaster. GW5000U Square is a great G-Shock but perhaps the Rangeman is the king of all G-Shocks.
That Rangeman breaks beyond repair though. GWG 1000 1-a3 is the the best G Shock ever produced imo.
@@Nightmareman3 I also own GWG-1000-1A1 and it somehow stopped working after one year. Personally I haven't had problems with my Rangeman or the other 2 G-Shocks I mentioned before.
@@CaptainLeftHook Did you find out what the problem was ? Did you buy it used?

I bought this watch about 4 months ago. I have worn no other watch since.
Imported from Japan or purchased in the US?
Casio G-Shock 5000u and a solid automatic GADA (Black Bay 54) and you're set to go!
Why they didn't put the better buttons on this and the upgraded screen that the metal ones get, baffles me.. it would be an instant buy for me in that case.
Is the GW5000 alarm louder than the GWM5610?
Can you recommend a strap similar in quality to the gw5000 that will fit a g shock gwm 5610u? Just looking at the casio straps, it doesn't look like the gw 5000u strap will fit a gwm 5610u watch? Is this correct?
Have a GW-5000 and it's my favorite g-shock. If you can afford it, you won't have buyers remorse.
G-Shocks are so addictive! I purchased my 1st G-Shock 10yrs back and still counting. 😅😅
“Stopping on one” is very, very hard indeed!! Welcome to the club!!😜😅😂
Loving my 5000u! Best square
Koliko je multi band 6 koristan tu gde ti zivis? Je moze da uzvati signal?
Best gshock ever! I really love 5000u.
I wish I could get the GW5000 strap for my 5610 for less than $80.
GShock is addictive..
Nice review but you seem to have the same problem has me on my gw5000U the screen or the module isn’t straight on the lower right side. I’ve sent it to Time central those who fix watches for Casio in Canada they weren’t able to see it. Even some Casio employees took a look a it and say nothing is wrong with it.😮
Optical illusion due displayed bar above "H".
Nope it’s not straight 😮
G5600 E is really bad at water resistance. After purchasing Within 3 or 4 months of normal usage it had fog and water vapour inside obstructing the time view. Too bad.
It did not have any good quality water proofing mechanism. It's having water droplets again inside the glass even after repair from Casio service center.
Really Disappointed.
I've heard about a number of squares that have this issue.
In areas of high humidity, this is a common problem.
My 'only g-shock" model is GST-b100... though - as you can tell - i am watching videos about g-shocks which means it is REALLY hard to stop by "just one" 🤣🤣
GW-5000U-1ER is the same watch 1JF? or not please advise
It is the same. Made at the same factory in Japan. The only difference is the intended market. I got the -1ER from Amazon UK site, bought from seller Amazon EU so it came from Germany.
@@3040-f9g thanks for reply i alos just purchased from germany amazon and sent to uk
Don't own one yet but it is on my list.
I use digital watches for work. I need them to be easily operable with gloves. So no tiny metal buttons for me.
None of the squares would be suitable enough for your job, except the King.
First class Japanese goods sell local, second class Japanese goods sell Europe and America, third class Japanese goods sell Asia Pacific. This sentence was first said by SONY when it was still doing CDS and MD, and has been spread to the present, if there is a Japanese K or H, and there is no screw in the back cover, this watch can not be wrong, GW-5000 I have taken 5 years, very good
Why are you comparing Sony with Casio?
A bit too monochromatc for my taste
As much as I like this, I would prefer this to have the full metal bluetooth square module with STN display and sapphire crystal. With these features, steel inner case and larger buttons, it would have an extra clear display, and all functions could be set with a smartphone. I'll probably end up with one of these anyway.
The GMW-B5000 ticks all your boxes, except the Sapphire Glass crystal.
However, there's an MRG version of the square with everything you want.
But, the price is very high.
nah, best g shock is the gwb5600 no doubt, it has the updated back plate while this one has a steel screw which is heavy af and gets very cold outside
Gw-5000u over Gmw-b5000 ?
Yes, I tried, but couldn't get used to steel bezel and bracelet combo! I understand it's appeal, but it's more got "flexing" and being flashy, THIS one is a true "old school" Gshock done in a premium way
@@WatchGeekthanks for your feedback. The only things this 5000u could have done to be perfect is STN display for better viewing angle and larget buttons. I got the 5610u which I like a lot but it’s lacking comfort and premium feeling for an everyday watch… still hesitating to buy an upgraded model.
This is where GMW-B5000G-1 comes in.
@@dusank774Too bad the rubber strap versions got discontinued ages ago.
You aren't wrong, but once you get hooked on G-Shock's, you will no doubt buy the GWM-B5000, or one of the variations.

This is very true😊
Sorry but I think 5610 beats the 5000
Most bang for the buck on a watch period.
