      I know, such a shame! I haven’t even seen The Shining, and I was able to follow it, it was that good.
      And Rebecca... my goodness. So calm and quiet, yet she scares me more than Pennywise (marginally so, but all the same)

      @@ursaminor9780 I think it's because, while this film is obviously fictional, there are people out there who are murderers, kidnappers, etc, yet masquerade as seemingly normal people. Something like Pennywise you KNOW can't be real, but the idea of your quiet neighbor being some kind of cultist or killer... It's sadly not unheard of.

      Jake Iorio I think it would’ve done substantially better if they had released it in October near or around Halloween. My one complaint is that there’s a shortage of good scary movies to see at that time, yet anything that would fit the bill is released on any other month of the year.

    This was one of my favorite films of the year. Barely anybody even knows about it. It came out at a weird time in early November and was barely promoted here in the States. Admittedly, the more you liked The Shining the more you will probably enjoy it. It's a legit mix of horror, drama, and character study of Danny Torrance(Mcgregor) as an adult. I think it maybe didn't do all that well because a lot of teens and twenty somethings who mostly see horror movies at the theatre were too young for The Shining. It was even moving at times. A solid 8 or 8.5 out 10.

    • @dookcook3327

      Most teens and twenty somethings would fall asleep if they tried to watch The Shining and/or Doctor Sleep due to short attention span. Remember, these are the same people who made the Transformers films huge hits at the box office so there you go.

      @STONESGAM 2 роки тому

      @@fizzy69o.0 I'm not blaming anything on young people. Lol. I just stated the majority of people who go to the theatre to see horror movies are younger people. And some may not be overly familiar with a sequel to a movie that came out 40 years ago. Plus, the movie came out In Nov after Halloween for some reason at a weird time and it wasn't advertised that well. So there were a lot of reasons it probably wasn't a bigger box office hit.

      Rose needed her talents then-and-there, though, for her plan to capture Abra to be successful, as they were running out of 'steam'. It's not as if the True Knot could wait another decade or however long. It's either drain Snakebite Andi of all her 'steam' right then, or 'turn' her and get her help in securing their next victims -- the Baseball Boy and, ultimately, Abra.

      She’d been in America long enough to travel across it in a covered wagon. I think it’s implied that she left Ireland not long after being turned so technically she’s been American significantly longer than she was Irish.

    I'm convinced after watching the first two episodes of "The Outsider" on HBO that Terry Maitland's youngest daughter has the gift of the shining since Stephen King likes to intertwine his stories or hint at easter egg's.

      Wow! Very perspective. I think you are right. King's novels have a lot of cross references. Interesting how in IT the clown prayed on children's fear. In The Outsider the Boogeyman prays on children and all the grief of the one's who were affected by the child's death.... eventually leading to their own And in Dr. Sleep these vampire like members of True Knot prey on children that shine to stay alive like blood to traditional vampires. All three are similar in that nature. I'm watching The Outsider now and I love it. It is very character driven but extremely terrifying.

      There’s lots of characters that have the shine. The shine is sort of like the King-verse version of the force. The losers club had it, Carrie White had it etc.

    Who would want to be immortal in this world? In today’s world knowing you’re going to live forever wouldn’t be a reward it would be a punishment.

    • @XJ0461C

      The True Knot have money. They live like Kings and Queens. It is a reward to them, but most of all because dying to them is the most painful thing imaginable. When a member cycles, it's a long, drawn out, incomprehensibly agonising process of fading in and out of the physical world with no way of knowing when you finally go. Life is their addiction much like Dan's is alcohol, but they are living to stave off the absolute worst kind of withdrawal.

    • @antmagor
      @antmagor 4 роки тому +1

      Vincent it would still be a punishment. I can see why the concept of living forever would have its appeal back in, say the dark ages, or the 70s, but today? What favors does eternal life give you it’s the planet is on the verge of an ecological collapse? If you don’t believe in man-made climate change then there’s the world stage, The destabilization of affairs keeps bringing us closer to the possibility of a nuclear war. If that had been me, roses’ offer would have zero appeal. To go on living like the true knot does would be my definition of hell on earth. At least when you grow old and die you have the comfort of knowing this world can’t hurt you anymore.

      @@antmagor Again, living has become addicting to them and death is the most painful kind of withdrawal imaginable for them. And they don't concern themselves with the affairs of ordinary humans as they see themselves above them. Pain and suffering are food and drink to them, there is a scene in the book left out of the film where they're literally feeding off of the steam left behind at the site of the World Trade Center after 9/11.
      War would be a joyous time for them and with their connections they'd be able to get through it comfortably. What's killing the planet hasn't affected them and they're immune to disease. This is how they've BEEN living, in the book the turning point comes when it's discovered they've lived SO long their natural immunity to disease has actually worn off and they contract measles from one of their food sources, desperately needing the steam of a vaccinated target to cure themselves. This is another detail left out of the film, but ultimately they're depicted as the epitome of hedonistic junkies who don't see their end coming due to arrogance.

      Immortal in the sense that they can potentially live forever so long as they can feed off of steam. Biological immortality in other words. There are different layers of immortality in fiction with the one demonstrated here being one of the least impressive versions.
