Something like Pennywise you KNOW can't be real, but the idea of your quiet neighbor being some kind of cultist or killer... It's sadly not unheard of.
Jake Iorio I think it would’ve done substantially better if they had released it in October near or around Halloween. My one complaint is that there’s a shortage of good scary movies to see at that time, yet anything that would fit the bill is released on any other month of the year.
This was one of my favorite films of the year. Barely anybody even knows about it. It came out at a weird time in early November and was barely promoted here in the States. Admittedly, the more you liked The Shining the more you will probably enjoy it. It's a legit mix of horror, drama, and character study of Danny Torrance(Mcgregor) as an adult. I think it maybe didn't do all that well because a lot of teens and twenty somethings who mostly see horror movies at the theatre were too young for The Shining. It was even moving at times. A solid 8 or 8.5 out 10.
Duh it has no appeal to this generation as a brand and no poster worthy villain like a stupid clown so. It got none of the attention one might hope for it. It seems good from clips I've seen
Most teens and twenty somethings would fall asleep if they tried to watch The Shining and/or Doctor Sleep due to short attention span. Remember, these are the same people who made the Transformers films huge hits at the box office so there you go.

The True Knot was an interesting take on the concept of an energy vampire. I would love to see either a prequel or mini series exploring their origin in more detail. A pity this movie bombed at the box office.

I love this little detail that she sounds both Irish and American: Rose the Hat's name is Rose O'Hara, who originally came from Ireland but emigrated to the US hundreds of years ago. The mixed accent fits the character's backstory.
Every time she says "hi there", I have to resist the urge to reach for the hand lotion. So many times you hear actors say "I didn't understand what I was filming", and it shows in their performance. But THIS lady knew exactly what she was doing. Gweneth Paltrow didn't even realize a cameo she shot was in a Spider-Man movie
Her reaction to Andi's age seemed so similar with the one Heath Ledger's Joker did during the interrogation scene. I think Rose was creepier than Pennywise!
Rebecca rocked this role. It was meant for her. And I was captivated by evil little Snake Bite Andy. I'm sure she must have had a painful back story as her shine or whatever it was went dark. Great little actress. And this was the coolest fuckin trailer I have ever scene.

It's not as if the True Knot could wait another decade or however long. It's either drain Snakebite Andi of all her 'steam' right then, or 'turn' her and get her help in securing their next victims -- the Baseball Boy and, ultimately, Abra.
Also another thing i picked up on was grown up Danny (Ewen McGregor) telling Abra to run from him which is something that happen in the Shining the book but is not in the Kurbrick film which always disappointed me.
I think Snakebite Andy needs to be resurrected so she and Abra can do another movie...come to think of it, these are great characters, and well-played; maybe a prequel can bring all of them back

There was a faint Irish accent, when she spoke. In the book, she's from Irish, would have liked to hear her speak in that accent. All in all, the clip looks good.

I'm convinced after watching the first two episodes of "The Outsider" on HBO that Terry Maitland's youngest daughter has the gift of the shining since Stephen King likes to intertwine his stories or hint at easter egg's.
Wow! Very perspective. I think you are right. King's novels have a lot of cross references. Interesting how in IT the clown prayed on children's fear. In The Outsider the Boogeyman prays on children and all the grief of the one's who were affected by the child's death.... eventually leading to their own And in Dr. Sleep these vampire like members of True Knot prey on children that shine to stay alive like blood to traditional vampires. All three are similar in that nature. I'm watching The Outsider now and I love it. It is very character driven but extremely terrifying.

The True Knot have money. They live like Kings and Queens. It is a reward to them, but most of all because dying to them is the most painful thing imaginable. When a member cycles, it's a long, drawn out, incomprehensibly agonising process of fading in and out of the physical world with no way of knowing when you finally go. Life is their addiction much like Dan's is alcohol, but they are living to stave off the absolute worst kind of withdrawal.

What favors does eternal life give you it’s the planet is on the verge of an ecological collapse? If you don’t believe in man-made climate change then there’s the world stage, The destabilization of affairs keeps bringing us closer to the possibility of a nuclear war. If that had been me, roses’ offer would have zero appeal. To go on living like the true knot does would be my definition of hell on earth. At least when you grow old and die you have the comfort of knowing this world can’t hurt you anymore.

This is how they've BEEN living, in the book the turning point comes when it's discovered they've lived SO long their natural immunity to disease has actually worn off and they contract measles from one of their food sources, desperately needing the steam of a vaccinated target to cure themselves. This is another detail left out of the film, but ultimately they're depicted as the epitome of hedonistic junkies who don't see their end coming due to arrogance.
Immortal in the sense that they can potentially live forever so long as they can feed off of steam. Biological immortality in other words. There are different layers of immortality in fiction with the one demonstrated here being one of the least impressive versions.

Because nobody was asking for it... The Shining is on a few of the 100 Greatest Films of all times list... it didn't need a follow up film
