This episode was hilarious! That opening innuendo with Kathy set the tone... it was all in fun, and I love that people back then were able to have a sense of humor about things, and laugh at themselves and each other without fear of some kind of idiotic repercussion.
"No, I'm single but I fool around...I live in Whittier with my girlfriend and we're in the process of opening up a shop." - Boy, did Cathy ever walk into that one!
No H/H match today due to time constraints, so we close out yet another Richard-centric H/H match week. In the past 6 weeks, he's been chosen every time except for two. At least Brett got a chance to play and earn some money for a contestant this week. I believe this is Betty's third week in a row now without being chosen and Orson has gone at least two weeks now without anyone calling on him... Here's the current leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: TIE: Orson Bean - 100% (3 wins in 3 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 100% (3 wins in 3 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 80% (4 wins in 5 attempts). Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Betty - 50% (15 wins in 30 attempts). Fannie - 46.7% (7 wins in 15 attempts). Charles - 45.7% (16 wins in 35 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 36.5% (84 wins in 230 attempts). Brett - 34.5% (10 wins in 29 attempts). Bert - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 445, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
She usually takes those jokes in stride (as seen in subsequent episodes) regarding Allen but this is the one time I genuinely saw Betty slightly agitated and hurt.
Richard!!!” Call me” ..lol Absolutely loved that the woman was genuinely embarrassed. Nowadays women would be over the top nasty on purpose. Gone is the innocence when a woman was genuinely discreet and lady like.
And helium is a bad answer because that gas is often used in scuba breathing mixes to reduce the amount of nitrogen and help prevent nitrogen narcosis.
Well Richard won the week giving away 6,250 dollars in head to head and audience match matches with 13 matches for the regular. Lynda won for the semi regulars giving away 250 dollars in audience match match with 6 matches. Brett gave away 2,750 dollars in head to head and audience match matches.
Forgive me for saying this… But I think there’s another sexual innuendo/funny moment when Richard says at about 7:20 “you always test before you go down “… I don’t know if he said that I’m purpose to be funny, but look at the look on his face after he says it. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, I’m not going to explain. LOL
Yes, that sure was an innuendo, but I think it was unintentional. Richard realized what he said after he said it -- you can always tell he's embarrassed when he covers his face with his hand. (If you want to see the best example of this, watch MG74 ep 258 -- right after 8 minutes, he is dying inside over the answer that he cannot give. But this episode is CRAZY with innuendo and it is so funny.

Super Match, part 1: (if asked before Richard) MIDNIGHT (if asked between Richard and Brett) RIDE 'EM (if asked after Brett) RHINESTONE (which hadn't even charted yet, I know, but what the hey)
Seems Kathy opened up a can of innuendos when she mentioned that she "fooled around". Despite taking back his "Call Me" card when she mentioned opening a shop with a girlfriend (which is apparently code for "I'm taken, after all"), Richard still kept the dirty joke going.
@@brachio1000 It says a lot about the state of the country in 1975 when the words "Me and my girlfriend are opening up a shop" and "What are you gonna do there" immediately bring to mind the X-rated movie "Little Shop of Whores".

Who ever write Gene’s script needs to be suspended for awhile, Gary needs to leave he is as old as the hills and twice as dusty in other words Goodbuy for ever
Richard gets impatient again in this one. First he tells Gene Rayburn to introduce the contestants, then when Brett comes back after going off-stage for whatever reason, he snaps about winning money for the contestants.
Yowp Yowp yeah I picked that up too. What’s funny is, Richard is out of line in a way but he’s not. Gene actually takes his direction and does what he says because Richard knows the contestants are important. That’s why he became such a great host on Family Feud. I also liked when he put Brett in check because she could be a pain.
Gene loses control of the show once in a while, which is actually one of its charms. But someone has to be the grownup, and Richard is the most serious player and always displays concern for the contestants. Also, you don't know what Richard was seeing that perhaps Gene wasn't -- there might have been a stage manager signaling to pick up the pace.

Betty for the innuendo win.

I want to know what Peters invention was, and what ever became of it.
This SHOW...THESE STARS..never be duplicated!!! LOVE GENE,BRET,RICHARD...miss Charles
You watch these people everyday on TV then one day you're on the set. Must feel like a dream, just like for Kathy right here.
Great episode. Just sad that this didn't go on forever.
To add to all the innuendos, Midnight Cowboy won Best Picture despite being rated X at the time
“Hang the jury” is a good example of the contestant giving a better answer than the celebrities.
I completely agree, I thought she may have gotten at least two matches
7:10 Gene asks Richard if he can offer any gas. The look on Richard's face was priceless.
The double entendres, unintentional or not, were definitely flying in this one. Amazing what stage fright can do...

Very Cool 70s Shag, Kathy!
Kathy's in her 70s now! 😊

Betty never really liked any question that painted her husband in s negative light. You could see it on her face
She has said that Alan was the love of her life.
Cannot blame her. And in general nobody likes anyone saying anything insulting about their husband whether they are right or wrong.
She usually takes those jokes in stride (as seen in subsequent episodes) regarding Allen but this is the one time I genuinely saw Betty slightly agitated and hurt.
I honestly hated the way they talked about Alan. I know it was supposedly in fun but I still didn't like it
Nah. Betty was a big girl and an old hand at show biz. This didn't bother her in the slightest.
It was hilarious! Even Betty White Was Silly Having A Xylophone!

Oh my gosh this episode is the most funny one I have scene so far if I get sressed out all be watching this one!
Kathy was very entertaining. Unintentional [?] innuendo and hiding behind Gene while the answers were displayed. Fun show!
I thought the obvious answer to The Godfather/SCUBA question was: CEMENT. Dickie Dawson came close tho.
And helium is a bad answer because that gas is often used in scuba breathing mixes to reduce the amount of nitrogen and help prevent nitrogen narcosis.
I said spaghetti sauce because in past godfather questions, that answer usually comes up. Not this time.
Been looking for this episode. Thanks for the upload.
Anyone know the name of Kathy's shop? Or what Peter invented?
Had it been five years later, it would have been "Urban Cowboy"...
Edward Lozano nope. Rhinestone Cowboy. 🙃
The previous episode and this one are written about in "Wallowing in Sex: The New Sexual Culture of 1970s American Television
By Elana Levine"
I was trying to find what peter might have invented but found that instead
Kathy was hilarious!!

That guy invented the Jack Rabbit, he sent one to Kathy.
Kathy could be Evie's understudy. Second-worst case of nerves seen on the show to date.
She did look nervous.
