  • Several weeks after North Carolina joined the Confederacy, Governor Henry Clark was commissioned to construct a prison for incoming Union prisoners of war. An empty textile mill, Maxwell Chambers mill, was selected as North Carolina’s only prison during the War Between the States.

    I hope this place and ole buildings ain't just gonna be allowed to grow up with vines and left to rot with time like that. This is history, this is something that can not be reseen unless through photos.. it's sad so many people don't care and appreciate the history, the stories,the craftsmanship of this era gone by. It's so beautiful, amazin to watch. Thank u so much for ur time in goin out trying to preserve this in videos. From South Carolina..

      Glad you liked it and thank you for your comments. I would suggest to anyone wanting to go here to stay on the sidewalk, it is assumed that it is owned by the museum, it is not. It is private property and the owner will run you off with a rifle as I found out. Thanks for watching.
