    About effing time! 71 yr old here, tired of lugging my 45 lb Alpha around, and taking it off my jeep at the river, ugh don’t get me started. Came up in the 70’s, a time when the only whitewater kayaks that existed were fiberglass. Been looking at carbon slalom boats lately, but haven’t loved ´em enough to pull the trigger. Price tag for for Ringer might be high, but like EJ says in his write-up, « mountain bikes are like $10,000 these days ». Besides what do I care, I’m retired. Not gonna live forever, and this seems like the answer I’ve been waiting for. Thanks for putting this out there. Cheers from Santa Fe.😢

      That’s awesome you’re still out shredding in your 70s I hope I’m still going when that age and glad helped you out I think this is exactly what you might be needing. I agree high end mountain bikes and road bikes are crazy expensive

      well, to be honest, more like geezer shredding. but we love it. cheers.

      i think you can get a CF and fiberglass prijon in germany, either the pike or the new creek halfslice

    Looks fantastic, cant help but think that shape and ride is exactly what everyone was trying to achieve with cut down slalom boats before plastic boats became popular.

    EJ should flow you one for the winter. Durability test. See how it would actually hold up on Cheoah and tellico laps. I bet it would be fine. We both know guys who run ocoee in ten year old squirt boats. A solid lay up boat can take some big hits. Price wise, it costs what two kayaks cost. Most boaters who would be interested in something like that probably have at least 5 kayaks in the garage. So sell 3 and get a custom boat.

    • @WadeHarrison
      @WadeHarrison  Рік тому +2

      I would love to have one of something like Russel fork gauley yeah Cheoah especially if it’s a demo 😂

    • @powhoundus
      @powhoundus Рік тому

      If you think about it most folks are pretty abusive towards their boats and then get pissed off when they finally break. I’m talking “need” to boof vs “want” to boof every rock they see. Ditto rock spins, shore slide put ins, etc. I started boating in early 80’s with a Phoenix Ocoee so started out with mindset rocks are to be missed, not played with. I’m thinking if you didn’t abuse the boat, and boofed only when needed it would actually hold up pretty well to a lot of creeking type runs including the Cheoah. You can get down the Cheoah pretty easily with minimal rock contact and have a fun in the process. Thinking the same thing re: Ocoee and maybe Tellico at 500 and above. Russell Fork definitely at 800 plus. Upper Yough at higher flows but not sure about Summer 2.0-2.1 flows?

    Wade - your review was very valuable for someone considering a purchase. It looked like you wanted to splat up against the walls so bad but you resisted.

    • @WadeHarrison
      @WadeHarrison  Рік тому +1

      Yeah i would say you need to adjust your paddling style slightly in a boat like this. Not that smash everything splat and boofs

    I’m glad to finally see an unbiased party review of this boat. If EJ wants to sell a lot of these, he should be getting it out to more reviewers and set up demo days at the water parks like you are doing there. We all know he’s great, but we’re also not going to take his word on a boat that costs over 3K! I take that back, he’s sold a few based on his word alone which is a real head scratcher for me. I love your reviews - keep up the good work.
    1. How would this boat rate in the half slice shootout you did last year? Can you give us numbers in each category like you did the other boats?
    2. Is the seat glued in? Seems to me the way to set this up when you first get it / or for EJ any demo boat would be to glue big Velcro tracks to the bottom of the boat and the bottom / side braces of the seat so folks can easily adjust / experiment with seat position. Can’t imagine what a PITA it would be to try to dial in that seat if it’s glued in.
    Hope to see ya at the Ocoee race this weekend!

    • @WadeHarrison
      @WadeHarrison  Рік тому +2

      Tough to compare because its carbon and very different. I hope he does this in Plastic actually and not the seat was not glued in.
      I am pretty sure you have the option for them to find you perfect spot and outfit it for you.
      Still my top half Slice so far Is this one coloradokayak.com/products/pyranha-ripper-2-kayak?ref=wade

    Glad you got your butt into one of these Apex boats. I’ve been seeing it on EJ’s recent instructional series, very curious to see your take on this Ringer model. It appears as though the seat position is a little back for your size and weight.

      Gloves are super slippery on the paddle in my experience. Go with a pogie... or the kokatat mittens are amazing! They run small in sizing, but the paddle feel is as close to bare hand as it gets.

    Looks as good as it's going to get for a boat that isn't remotely trimmed right. The footage I have seen of EJ in his it looks like it's got the glide. Our local course is an altered state site in the tailrace of a small power station (we built it over the last 20 years rock by rock, feature by feature) and as Im in the market for a boat that is going to be spending a fair bit of time there this looks interesting, but a Firecracker is a more sensible choice here. If I had a cement local, then Id probably be a starter.

      @@WadeHarrison Have you got an on water review for the 252 by chance? It's a big boat on me, but I reckon it will be a good option for steep rocky little streams - more of a pivot creeker than an little halfslice.

  • @UrsaMusic
    @UrsaMusic Рік тому +1

    Nice. I bet that thing is fun. I’m nervous to take my beat up Rewind on concrete, can’t imagine a $3k carbon boat hitting those super whirlpooling eddies and scraping the tail. I saw you say in your other video that the concrete there is smoother or more polished (I assume compared to Charlotte which has a lot of texture). Does that help with the boat damage? Money no object, I’d buy one for sure. 23 lbs sounds awesome

    • @WadeHarrison
      @WadeHarrison  Рік тому +1
