Hello you, we’ve never met but I just wanted to thank you for being a part of this channel this year. Whether you’re a first time casual watcher or a long time member, this channel wouldn’t exist without you. I’ve loved making videos this year and I hope I’ve been able to provide some inspiration or knowledge for you to continue your own art journey. I wish you Happy Holidays on behalf of me and Vivi (that’s the entire staff of Angry Corporation), and I hope we can make even more art next year 🐻💕
I have been struggling to write a novel based off an idea I had about 10 years ago. Your words in this video are inspiring, and now I can’t wait to share all of my underwater islands covered with cotton candy conifers and populated by teal breasted gulls.
Rather than focusing on the end of the project think how much fun it will be to just do it? Lets say nobody reads it ever. You’d still have the experience of spending time in your world and discovering how the story comes together.
Whenever I’m stuck with my art or struggling mentally, I’ve picked up the habit this year of watching your videos instead of just trying to power through the abyss, and honestly, it’s the best habit I’ve adopted. Thank you so much for your positivity and outlook on art 🙂
Thanks Mikko. My art journey began because of you over a year ago. I pretty much only practice intuitive painting because planning is the stressful part for me 😅
The great thing with digital painting is that the workflow can be made into whatever works for you. I often add line art after colour blocking just because it happens to work for how I see things. Just pay attention to those small choices when they happen because they can help ease away a lot of the friction from the process as you slowly discover new ways to make art that bring your best qualities and vision forward.
I've been watching so many videos about painting (mainly in procreate). And while they're fun to learn some knowledge... YOU really touch on the deeper level of drawing. What to do (and don't do) about your thoughts and feelings during drawing. Which, in the end completely guides anything you make. So this is so valuable. The first video I've seen on UA-cam that really got to me. Got me excited. You're a wonderful artist. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you Mikko for the inspiration and knowledge that you shared. This has made me see how to create art in a new way. I'm a graphic designer (not artist) of 30 years, and in those years, I haven't gotten to do much of my own art. Well that has recently changed. I've making the effort to carve out time for my art now. And today I put your concept into practice with color pencils. I had to layer on paper differently and I knew what I needed to draw. I wrap all my gifts in brown craft paper so I can draw on it. In less than 5 mins I had my drawing done and loved it. It was simple and detailed quicky. In the past I would have agenized over it for an hour at least. I hope to have an iPad to learn how to draw digitally soon. But for now, I'm trying this concept with everything!!! Thank you... I'm excited to create for me again!
this video is gorgeous, your passion for making art you love and not thinking of it too seriously inspires me a lot. Will definitely rewatch the video while painting :D
Got an art degree in the 90s and recently discovered digital art after being widowed. It’s been about 25 years since I tried to paint. Found ya and it’s quite refreshing to see your art process. I always thought we needed to be a good line artists. I create art similar and nice to see I’m not doing wrong lol. Makes me want to continue and post more stuff than I have already. Thanks mate.
I just discovered your videos, and Im sooooooo impressed! Not just by your artisticctalents, but by the way you explain things, make them understandable. THANK YOU!
Lovely! I will definitely try this approach. I think the more of a visual library you have in your head the better the result. I am still getting my basics together.
If at any point you need items from your visual library that aren’t there you can just leave a temporary block stand-in for the element you can study and draw later. I needed reference for the birds different poses in this painting but before I painted them in I had a spray of light dots to mark their function in the composition. This last anecdote might be only relevant to my silly monsters and creatures but in those I often use this mindset and end up with something way more ridiculous than where I would have ended up with a reference. Usually I end up giggling in tears how far I ended up from where I thought I was going but since those guesses sometimes just look more funny I often end up keeping them. This of course wouldn’t work at all if the theme of those designs was some kind of realism. Usually I always recommend using several references whenever you need them. But there are a few exceptions where it’s better to just pay attention to what the illustration needs for what it’s trying to say.
This is just what I needed Mikko! I’ve been in a creative slump for a few months and your video inspired me to loosen up, play, and experiment in Procreate again 😊 I also picked up your brush set- I’m so excited to try them out!
Thanks so much for all your creative ideas and your encouraging words. It always helps me when I'm a little bit stuck on my journey. I love your videos anyway coz it's so much joy to watch and because of that pretty inspiring 😊
Great to hear! Finishing is often the part that really makes the progress a lot faster. Before publishing an image I always manage to look at the painting like someone new and I want to make that experience for them as easy as possible.
One of my favorite pieces I've seen from you! 🤩 I love the tip number five section about being the "art janitor"and the assistant to the painting. I haven't approached a piece like this in a LONG time. I'm excited to give it a try!
Thanks for this video Mikko, this Is what I Needed for myself. I use to put too much control on my paintings, too many decisions before putting the pencil on the screen. This causes a lack on my creativity and sometimes It Is so stressful. I Need to free my creativity and Explore much more my Mood, losing control when making art. I Will Explore intuitive Painting during this Little vacation , I am sure It Will be a great exercise for my art... Wish you a great new year. Thanks a lot
Thankyou for everything you’ve given me this past year. Today I watched your beauty and candor for what seemed like the millionth time and immediately went to get your brush pack. Hoping your holiday is great. Cheers!
Thanks Mikko, I think this also applies to traditional artwork. The more I let myself just go explore what my pencils and pens can do the better at get at certain angles and just strokes that 'represent' a certain feeling but obvious subject at the same time. yeah that doesn't make sense but it is fun
i've been doing this since i came back to drawing a month ago, and the last time i drew with intuition i ended up doing a vampire under the sunlight ! not really logical, but it's one of my favourite pieces so far and i enjoyed making it :)
I love your videos! I'm just learning to draw and I find a lot of inspiration in your narrative. I'm having a hard time understanding why you're "angrymikko." You seem quite happy indeed!
Great advice 👍. So much to learn from you. The colour I used are all wrong. I was using very bold colours. My friend advice me using more pastel. Now I watch this video, I understand.
Even if this painting started out with desaturated colours I was a bit too much on the light side for what I prefer. Adding lights is much easier than adding shadows so usually I start from a bit darker tones that give me a bit more wiggle room.
I totally need to try this! I'm still mostly drawing with lines, but I'm really want to learn painting with shapes. It still feels super difficult, but maybe this exercise could help me to let go and just go with the flow. Happy new year Mikko!! ♥
Hey Mikko! I am making my first piece with your brushes! And its the first one i am actually somewhat proud of, i dont know if it is a psychological thing because i’m using you brushes or not😅 but anyways, i love your content and i was just wondering if you will do more tutorials on your channel? Much love from Norway🐻🐻⭐️
My problem with digital art is getting past the point where it just looks like a bunch of blobs in microsoft paint. I get distressed. I am pushing through it finishing every piece tho, which is the technique i used to learn to finish oil and acrylics paintings as well. Thanks for your videos, its tough learning digital without any formal education on the subject.
Hi Mikko! Always thank you for these helpful&beautiful videos. I was just wondering how long would usually take you to create each pieces because you always put so much effort in to it! Your art is very inspirational that I want to try environment art… Will definitely try to create some pieces like you do! 😄
Art isn’t an equipment sport. As long as you have access to any art tools like a pen, brush or even a phone, then you already have means to do creative work with them.
Hey mate. Love your work. I'm going to get into learning to draw and paint on my ipad 12.9 inch pro 6th gen and apple pencil 2. Do I need a screen protector? Do you use one? Thanks in advance.
@@angrymikko thanks mate. I'll just ensure the pencil tip is cleaned prior to using. I feel like apple would be pushing a screen protector of some sort (of their own design) if it was required.
Hello Myko, just a little question : for how many percent do each talent & technique count in this intuitive art you propose ? And before doing that, were you very good with drawing (I mean before digital art arrives) ? Thanks ! And Congratulation for your course, I took it ans can’t wait to follow the next one ! Kareen. :-)
Hi mikko i remember in one of your video you said that it's better to not chose white color as a background starting foundation because it will make the drawing looks plain and milky in the end, what color do you suggest for background starting foundation? Thanks 🙏
Depends on the painting. If you have trouble with having restraint in hue variety then it can be helpful to start from the intended main colour of your piece (muted). If you’re good at controlling colours then anything can be a good starting point even a compimentary colour base that you paint on. I’d avoid white, black and grey though in most cases.

Hi, Mikko! How long did it take to make this underwater island?

That is awesome! Art is not a race so you got back in just at the right time.

Thank you for this exercise! It really turned out better than I could have planned!
Thank you Mikko. This was an eye opener. Along the way I think i forgot that art shouldn’t be fought with. It should flow. Thank you for the reminder.
I'm glad I'm not the only artist who paints trees when drawing intuitively 🤭
Thank you🌸 very helpful🌸👍👍
So beautiful! Just learning Procreate now and this was a wonderful introduction and reminder not to overthink things!
Wow, I never thought of it that way. And yet part of me is afraid because I expect myself to come up with something or it has to look like something.
Thank you for this very great advice, I’ll give it a try to wake up my inner child.
Hello mikko! I just got your graphic illustration brush pack and wondering how do you use the 3 tiling textures. Im new to procreate lol!

Quick question, what brush are you using for this piece? Is it in your brush set?
The same brush mentioned in this video. Honey is in my Brushes for Painters set.
Okay thank you!
I tried your exercise and here is what I end up with. I call it tulips in steroids. Thank you it was lots of fun.
