      My fav swords are quite typical. A general one is the Messer and Kriegsmesser, but if we allow greatswords then a Flamberge Zweihander is a classic (Flammenschwert was the name?)

    Quick (or long) tangent. The period you are talking about is called the early modern period, lasting from sometime in the 1500’s to the 1800’s. The warfare was mainly pike and shot and cavalry charges.
    Pile and shot: a square of pikemen would surround and protect musket men who would step out and shoot their guns. The pikemen fended off horses and enemy infantry. The musket men would reload inside the pike square and repeat the steps.
    Cavalry: they would use a long hollow spear about 6-7 feet long (or longer) and then it would break upon use. Then they would switch to a one time use pistol and then switch to a permanent use sword.
    Anyways, great work and keep it up man. 👍

    cool and informative video! though i would've mentioned that it ofc wasn't a single master smith that toiled for years on one plate armor set, but more like a more collaborative effort with apprentices, since they also had to manufacture things like nails, tools and simpler weaponry at the same time

    • @stumped_on_youtube
      @stumped_on_youtube  Місяць тому +1

      I see, that makes sense considering apprentices were hands on trained with masters, even living in their houses usually above the shop

    Cool video. I’ve heard additional reasons though for knights being fazed out. For one, knights were really good at crowd control, despite ranged weapons such as bows, it was really hard to counter knights, but as you said, guns were really easy to use compared to the other weaponry used at the time, so unlike bows, guns were an actually good counter for knights that costed significantly less in many ways as you explained, and also were good for things other than just taking out knights, and ended up rendering them obsolete.

    to be true yeah fighting one on one sounds cool but think how stressfull it was to charge diarectly to battle hoping that you don't get a great axe swing to the head

    • @stumped_on_youtube
      @stumped_on_youtube  Місяць тому +2

      Haha, that's a good point I suppose. But think about how stressful it is running into battle knowing there could be anyone pointing a gun right at your head

    Pistols were invented before 1500. Bows were still used in the 17th century by the swedes (and those who copied them) because the firearms were slow to reload and thus an army could be surprised.

      Do you have a more accurate date or source? I had a lot of trouble getting accurate info because a lot of sources on gun history said conflicting answers
      Also thanks for adding the little fact! I didn't know about this

    • @TheDacoMelon
      @TheDacoMelon Місяць тому +2

      @@stumped_on_youtube Guns were around basically forever, what's more accurate is to ask in what form. You can expect something like a handgonne (small cannon on a stick) in the 1300s to the 1400s, from there you pick classic matchlocks (arquebuses and muskets) and start looking at the development of firearm locking mechanisms. Wheellocks (in my opinion the best) are early 1500s and after them in the same century are the snaplocks. Flintlocks themselves are 1600s but people should not expect that to be a rule because the snaplocks of the 1500s are exactly the same mechanism just in a less developed way, experiencing mainly convenience and reliability improvements until the true commonly known flintlocks.
