I've been on Christian's Wood since he popped off at the end of the season when he was in Detroit & I'm hoping this situation is where he finally gets serious
Yes, Christian Wood would be a great addition to the Lakers. His versatility and scoring ability would complement LeBron James and Anthony Davis very well. He can stretch the floor with his shooting and also provide a strong presence in the paint. Additionally, his athleticism and rebounding skills would greatly benefit the team. Overall, Christian Wood's skillset makes him a perfect fit for the Lakers' championship aspirations.
Honestly, his fit in Orlando was great. He was just tasked to carry that team as a first option. He's not a first option type of guy. Him playing behind Murray and Jokic, also having MPJ, KCP, Brown takes away defensive attention from him, so he's more free to do his thing. He was never done, he's just not capable of being the first option, and that's not a bad thing.

I think AD can definitely play the 4, next to the right 5. His shooting isn't a problem next to a guy like Wood because of the spacing, and he'd still be the primary P&R big + vertical spacer. On the LeBron point, it's weird because I think he's still maximized on-ball, but doesn't have the stamina to do it in that same fashion, so I think having guys like Reaves/Dlo helps mitigate that load and keep him at his best for when you do need him to dominate the rock.
I think I'd roll out DLo, Reaves, Bron, Wood, AD to start the season (I know they're going with Rui). Taurean Prince is the best defensively of the 3, and a solid passer so he'd be interesting as well. A lot of people seem to think I'm just completely missing the mark with Wood, but narratives shift with guys who have tools and finally put them together on more competitive teams. Not saying Wood is *this* good, but I remember how they talked about Wiggins in Minny, Gordon in Orlando, and many other high-level contributors.
Wood is solid the thing that makes teams not like him is his mentality he’s too proud to be the Swiss Army knife that he is and it lowering his appeal most players out the league right now are there because of their mentality causing issues with the team I think he will take Vanderbilt’s spot based on being able to hide behind AD on the defensive side and he has to be respected on the perimeter so his defender won’t leave him open and double someone else which they were doing to Vanderbilt and they will use Vanderbilt throughout the game to get some stops and have someone that can get into foul trouble with no issue so wood can stay out of foul trouble
No disrespect, but I won't be surprised if he's waived midway through the season. But I also wouldn't be surprised if he turns out to be a key rotational player for LAL come playoff time.
He's good for regular season if his def gets better he'll be great for playoff we will see, he's an upgrade from wenyen Gabriel whose shorter and doesn't play great def either and woods shoots better from the arch
Specifically with the Lakers I think wood could work because of his strengths being some of the lakers weaknesses but keep in mind Wood has no idea what he’s doing on defense 70% of the time, he has more turnovers than assists almost every season so no do not call him a passer at all, and his offense outside of P&R and spot up 3’s is usually outside of the team offense and can get very annoying just a heads up lakers fans (mavs fan that also watched him on pistons, pels, bucks and rockets)
All that to say yes he can score but also that’s about it, just imagine if Lou Williams was 6’11 and also imagine how Lou’s bad defense would effect the team if he was a big man having those lapses and you’ve got Christian wood to a T
Just to push back on the AST:TO point, I don't think that quite captures what exactly is happening when he's passing the ball. His tendency to get offensive fouls on drives, awkward footwork on travels, illegal screens, and loose handle/ball control all contribute to turnovers but have nothing to do with his passing. That's not to say he's a great passer, just that he's shown to be *somewhat capable*.
@@HoopVenue somewhat capable I can agree with, I wouldn’t call him a playmaker tho is mostly what I was saying, and for a big man yes he has made some advanced reads in the past
@@HoopVenue sorry I realized I didn’t even make the point I intended to, wood could be awesome for the lakers because the lakers have a squad that make up for his huge weaknesses but for the mavs for example he just couldn’t have worked because they can’t have a poor defensive front court and backcourt
@@DeeJay_VII if they feel like they can be successful with Davis, Vando, Wood, Hayes and Prince at the 4/5 spots then they’ll have to consider it. You cannot have Russell disappear on you again in the playoffs. They’ll probably seek someone more trustworthy. Also who knows which PFs will become available on the buyout market later in the year
It’s not offense that makes wood a non contributing player It’s his defense For his size he doesn’t get many rebounds He does decent help defense getting blocks but perimeter and post is lacking which means all interior d and rebounding fall on Davis
@@HoopVenue I’m not looking at stats at all only that his numbers were inflated in Houston bc it’s just choas there Mostly the reason the mavs felt it impossible to play him. But as far stats he’s a decent rebounder just a lot more is expected of him

Lakers fans, don’t be like last year’s Mavs fans and delude yourself into thinking he is anything but a tall star padder that cannot play a lick of defense.
I think "being who he's always been" but with a change in environment can go a long way, he already has nice defensive tools regarding length and athleticism, and AD's on the short list of guys who can maximize someone like that.
Yes. If you are depending on Wood to be your primary rim protector or interior defensive stopper with no other viable defensive players around him *cough cough* Dallas..... You are definitely going to be in trouble.... Luckily the Lakers don't have that issue.
There's no such thing as a perfect fit for a player that is a liability on defense on a team that doesn't have a walking bucket on the roster. Lakers need all players on the floor to be above decent on defense which is why he might not even be playability in post season.
Well those people just simply didn’t think it through, from day 1 the Westbrook move made no sense at all as his skillset doesn’t blend with LeBron at all. Not to mention that Westbrook had clearly regressed, but the triple double season in 2021 had everyone fooled again.

Bro did you get suspended on Twitter
Reaves and Wood pick and roll will be the best in the NBA...
he’s playing like AD in houston, he just needs a good mentor.
They not waiving him lol
It'll also give AD and bron some rest. Wouldn't be a smart move to waive him
11:31 why’s he throwing a lob pass to luka anyway ?? 😭
This isn't changing if Lebron and AD are taking a large percentage of the shots and they are 2 pointers
He sat the bench a LOT on dallas. Does anyone have any other straws to grasp at?
May I reiterate Wood cannot pass, I know he has passing highlights but look at assists to turnovers
Reeves, Vando/Prince, Bron, AD, Wood lineups will be insane. Lakers team is too deep. People are sleeping on them.
He has a lot in common with AD in regards to style of play… idk if this will work
The Lakers TEAM 3-POINT SHOOTING is horrible.
I feel like there’s a trade coming at some point in the season. Russell and Hachimura will be packaged for a PG upgrade.
Trading Rui would be a massive mistake
@@DeeJay_VII if they feel like they can be successful with Davis, Vando, Wood, Hayes and Prince at the 4/5 spots then they’ll have to consider it. You cannot have Russell disappear on you again in the playoffs. They’ll probably seek someone more trustworthy.
Also who knows which PFs will become available on the buyout market later in the year
You’re smoking something 🤣 Rui was literally lebrons understudy all summer, side by side, workouts and training. Not happening
@@indigopsi6993 how else do you increase someone’s trade value? Develop them, play them, trade them for a superstar.
It’s not offense that makes wood a non contributing player
It’s his defense
For his size he doesn’t get many rebounds
He does decent help defense getting blocks but perimeter and post is lacking which means all interior d and rebounding fall on Davis
Wood’s a very good rebounder, I think you’re looking at his numbers without accounting for the 26 MPG.
@@HoopVenue I’m not looking at stats at all only that his numbers were inflated in Houston bc it’s just choas there
Mostly the reason the mavs felt it impossible to play him.
But as far stats he’s a decent rebounder just a lot more is expected of him
Thomas Bryant with a better handle
Better than thomas. He can also create his own shot
someone needs to teach him how to start his dribble before lifting his pivot lol he traveled like 1000x and they never call it
This aged well 😂
Yea, CW is about to destroy teams with Lebron and Reeves as the play makers...i see him playing alongside AD.
Do u guys think HV can hoop?
I’m mad the Mavs didn’t use him effectively. Jason Kidd SUCKS. Mavs fan btw
Yeah that was a bit disappointing, the Luka/Wood tandem had way more in the tank than what we saw.
@@HoopVenue IM SAYING.
how bout the defense?
you guys said the same over RUSS
Who is "you guys" in this context? I hated the Westbrook addition from day 1 and loudly voiced my concerns on why the move made zero sense.
@@HoopVenue nah u make zero sense, aint debating fanboys. peace from monte carlo
I see him getting trade this season
Lol da REAL DEAL..With #s3&23 leading the way Formidable is the word..man get your popcorn 🍿 ready and sit back and enjoy exciting 🏀 bball..Lakers reign..Positivity reigns go Lakeshow..AJENNINGS
For me he's a wallmart anthony davis that plays like he's not even trying and a consistent 3 ball
What about his defense though...
Where's he rn??☠🤒🤕😷😵💫
Lakers fans, don’t be like last year’s Mavs fans and delude yourself into thinking he is anything but a tall star padder that cannot play a lick of defense.
He’s not tho. Unless he’s suddenly competent defensively he’s gonna be who he’s always been.
I think he will play pf, then Davis will be the center
There's no such thing as a perfect fit for a player that is a liability on defense on a team that doesn't have a walking bucket on the roster. Lakers need all players on the floor to be above decent on defense which is why he might not even be playability in post season.
I keep telling people!!! This won't be enough!!!😅😅😅 the Lakers have no solution for the joker!😅
Understand what you’re saying but mans gonna get cooked on defense against other bigs who are legit big, pause
He won’t to this in a laker uniform
I remember when a lot of people said Westbrook was gonna be a perfect fit for the lakers., Or hachimura., Or Tristan Thompson..
And then
Well those people just simply didn’t think it through, from day 1 the Westbrook move made no sense at all as his skillset doesn’t blend with LeBron at all.
Not to mention that Westbrook had clearly regressed, but the triple double season in 2021 had everyone fooled again.
Also, Hachimura played a pivotal role in a WCF run while barely getting any time with the team, not sure he’s the example here.
Lakers will lower his 3point % foshooo haha
Dude plays no defense and he slips every screen…
He’s gonna play the Marc Gasol role
you need to play defense down the stretch or else your slowly out in the NBA
Bball is not just O,also D.Wood sucks at D!
Yal think anybody fits with the lakers. It’s been a new team every seasom
Well I broke down exactly why I think he fits, it's not a baseless statement.
I hope he not here to a 3 point shooter
Nuh uh
