- A. G. Cook's label @PC Music defined a new approach to pop music and became synonymous with a genre. And it laid ground for what today is called "hyperpop". With the help of @Charli XCX the sound reached mainstream audiences
Cook, as well as friends and colleagues like Danny L Harle, SOPHIE and dozens of producers and acts like EASYFUN, Umru, Felicita and many more completely blurred the lines between underground and mainstream pop.
Acts like @Hannah Diamond and QT are celebrated as icons.
Now, it seems a new era of PC Music has begun.
Label founder A. G. Cook just released his first two solo albums "Apple" and "7G" where he also plays with indie rock elements - and with Planet 1999, PC Music recently signed their first actual band.
We visited A.G. Cook in his covid hideout in Montana, USA to talk about the label's philosophy.
This video by no means is a complete PC Music anthology and we know there are dozens of name drops we could have made. This is more of a status quo and some archive digging, after we had the pleasure of meeting so many figures related to PC Music - and FINALLY managed to meet A.G. Cook in person.

I absolutely love Polachek's take on PC Music as being a continuation of the turn-of-the-century "school." It feels so relevant esp when she talks about hyperpop as being in dialogue with commercialism and digitization, which kind of nods at the way artists in these schools would have viewed society. Definitely feels like we are watching history and that this artistic movement will be remembered in a similar way to other historical artistic movements!!!!

@@dagjohan3066 I don’t think her label wants Sophie on any tracks tbh, they took her off the production of no Angel & the only reason girls night out had original production is because she said it was like her favorite song from the original XCX world / 3 album. I don’t understand why a lot of labels completely take Sophie almost all production because they end up reproducing it & it’s kinda shady tbh, I’m assuming she will put her Sophie tracks out when she ends her label contract

when i first found PC music and A.G. Cook in 2016, i immediately fell in love. the high frequency atmosphere of it all really resonated with me, and made me contemplate. i realized i hadn't really heard such futuristic music quite yet compared to the conventional equipment a lot of producers still use. i dream to work with such outstanding producers like A.G. or Sophie someday, let alone with some of that software and equipment. it's a space for visionaries and conceptual talents of all kinds - dark and light. i'm obsessed.

Hehe, wir ja auch. So froh, dass es trotz Pandemie iiiirgendwie geklappt hat, endlich A.G. Cook vor die TRACKS-Linse zu bekommen.
I remember finding about PC music after watching the chanel fashion show with his song "what I mean" on the background of it when I was 15. Then I went on a binge and ended the day watching the Hey QT music video which, of course, Sophie was involved in the production of [the song]. It breaks my heart that the next thing I heard about this genre/collective that I used to love was surrounding Sophie's passing. I wish I'd found a way back to it in an alternate timeline in which she hadn't left us so early. I wish the circumstances were different. It's so sad. May she rest in peace.
I discovered Sophie through a fashion show as well: the LV SS2020 one. I was mindblown with the ethereal quality of the music, truly unlike anything I'd heard before.
Extremely interesting! Some of the more forward-thinking artists out there right now in my opinion.

Not to undermine GFOTY as an artist, but as far as I'm aware AG Cook did the majority, if not maybe the entirety of the production on her projects.
@@sunbathinganimal212 AG / Sophie / Danny did/do the majority/entirety of every single artist in PC music's repertoire if we're being honest. This entire label is totally carried talent-wise by three people. Now unfortunately two people.

This caught me a bit by surprise, but after all it's what I follow you for.
I'd appreciate a more thorough look at the dog show people and how that label relates to PC Music (since their just most prolific artists, gecs and food house, have appeared at PC Music events).
If you're new to this style of music and would like to hear more: I can absolutely recommend the last 2 PC Music events, Appleville and the christmas thing, both available on their UA-cam channel.

The monomachine seriously isn't used as much in Sophie's production as people think it is. It's mostly Serum.
