      As a huge HD fan I don’t agree. If he hated it then yeah, if he loved it then absolutely, but laboring a MEH seems more like brow-beating than just critical analysis.

    Phenomenal album about learning to love yourself. Idk why people keep putting this “irony”/“critique” narrative on her. Some of us just like bubblegum pop aesthetics & femininity!

      That's not what he said, he didn't say it was bad, he said that the sound of this album feels outdated now that this branch of pop has existed for years now

    • @P3dotme
      @P3dotme 8 місяців тому +10

      @@duckyduke954The sound was always "dated," Hannah Diamond's music was always looking back referencing branches pop that already existed for decades. Moreover by the time Reflections came out Hannah Diamond herself had been making music like that for nearly a decade.
      Imo Hannah Diamond's originality was never the sell; it's recontextualization not invention. I interpret it more like treating pop like a form of folk, utilizing familiar sonic language to express something.
      It's a great album, but of course it doesn't revolutionize pop forever in the same way PC music had before or something. I think putting that expectation on it is kinda unfair and misses the point.

    • @98loud
      @98loud 8 місяців тому +2

      @@P3dotme you're completely missing the point. Fantano is aware that it's re-contextualizing older music. His point is that doing that is not as unique as it once was. You have acts like 100 gecs pushing that idea to its limits, so in comparison it's not as groundbreaking.
      The re-context was the invention, and people have done it better by now. That's the point.

    • @P3dotme
      @P3dotme 8 місяців тому +4

      @@98loud Hannah Diamond isn't 100 gecs and she never was. If you want to listen to 100 gecs... listen to 100 gecs, not somebody else? They aren't trying to accomplish the same thing. Not that the new 100 gecs album is somehow sonically groundbreaking either.
      But my point is that the 'groundbreaking' nature of Hannah Diamond's seems incidental to me, like it never felt to me like the point was 'pushing an idea to its limits;' that feels like an external imposition. I don't understand why these criticisms couldn't've applied to most of her discography. Seems like meeting the music from a fantasy, rather than meeting it where its at. Like if you're looking for the experience of finding something for the first time by following an artist that's been refining their craft and sound for a decade, that's beyond a fools errand.

    I would have to argue In comparison to her last record, the song writing is much more focused and the production allows her sound to flourish. It’s a cut above Reflections in my opinion and one of the better pop records to come out in 2023

    I think I understand the sentiment. Many of the things found here you can kind of find elsewhere, some of us are kind of used to it, but I must say, Perfect Picture is still loads of fun to listen to, every time. It's so uplifting and powerful, it's got a kind of energy that I don't see a lot in current music. They try, but it usually doesn't hit *just right* like this album does. So yeah, the elements this album uses are things we're kind of familiar with, but it combines them in a way that is unique on its own, and manages to keep a distinctive feeling all the way.

    using ai generated music as a means to judge how fresh the sound of this album is, is quite cringe. there’s no push for painters to adapt how creative their art is because “ai can paint now”, since there’s a human element involved and that alone makes the painting inherently more personal and appealing. this same mindset should be applied to music, dont let ai disrupt the impressiveness of a human mind developing these ideas. from a critical standpoint, the creativity and hands on elements alone should keep the argument of ai music competing out of the picture.

    Some people like raw veggies. Some people want to have them cooked up with some seasoning and fat. People who love Hannah Diamond love raw veggies. She’s serving raw bubblegum pop with no appeal to mainstream pop by excluding hip hop and rock elements. With the glistening sound of PC Music and the legendary David Gamson producing I feel like this is the Japanese Gifting Fruit version of raw bubblegum pop. Those are like the $1500 Watermelon Radishes you see sometimes. Perfect Picture is gonna rival Yeule and Caroline for my AOTY.

    HD is the goat stfu, :'''') she already outlived charli, i could agree that perfect picture only almost lives up to reflections, but its a masterpiece still. u kinda critisise what i believe is the whole point about her music, as u say its not as over processed as most futuristic post human pop is, and that is the whole thing, its still this post human emo stuff but then its very easy to listen to at the same time and that is quite magic! i think in 10-20-100 years we rather looking back on the HD records than even pop2, both HD records is simply flawless in a way that few of her "competitors" are. i only grew tired of a single song from both 2 HD records (affirmations, sorry, its just too much :'')) while as a huuuge pop2 fanatic myself, there's only like 3-4 songs on the whole record where i'm not skipping a part or fully cant stand the song anymore. HD is very very refined post human pop, which comes of as boring compared to typical post human, but this is what i believe will make her more of a niche evergreen artist, basicly i'm trynna say its timeless :)))

      also lets be honest here, Paradise is the best Charli song ever, and theres a good reason for it, i havent listened to charli's charli record u mention in at least over a year now, that one was pretty mediocre comparing to vroom vroom and pop2, and i havent even got through a full listen of crash still to this day
