@@Mr-pn2eh Seeing as there are also female firefighters and female police officers, no that isn't the correct terminology. All of which go through extensive training btw. And those working for the post office are postal workers and postal carriers. In fact, when I had to call an ambulance for my mom a few years ago, it was a very nice female firefighter/paramedic who offered to ride on the ambulance with her saying "she is family" because the firefighter/paramedic knew my dad who was also a firefighter.
lol I saw David making fun of that video yesterday. 😂 As someone who has been around firefighters most of my life, I don't care what the firefighter looks like as long as they can do their job. And it is funny that the video is using footage from the show "911".
that is what people are missing as context... that is not an official ad for the LAFD... that was made for a FOX TV show. Still not a good message to spread, even for fiction, but that's something people leave out.
@@MedalionDS9 lol I don't think even the actress from the "911" clips would appreciate her likeness from the show being used for that message since in the show, the main focus of her character is that she is a firefighter, paramedic who is studying to become a doctor, who on the show happens to be gay. Yet she doesn't victim blame the people she "helps" on the show.
@MedalionDS9 Id she a real deputy chief? Was she paid over $300k in 2023 to head a DEI program? Does she believe that there needs to more women in the fire dept, bc the field is too male dominated? If it's yes to all those questions, the context isn't missing and we know where she stands
I can't believe she said that publicly, and I can't believe the public affairs team okayed that for the world to see. Idiocracy all around to include the government that runs the state and the department head that didn't fix the reservoir.
Speaking for myself, as an Asian guy, I never grew up thinking about race when looking for role models or heroes to emulate. It would had been great to see an Asian face but race never played a role. It always came down to values and character.
Hurricane victim: “Are you half Irish and half Mexican?” Rescuer: “No.” Hurricane victim: “Get away from me! I’m gonna wait right here til you bring someone who is a mixed race like me.”
I would imagine they had to leave the "911" logo in the vid since it was "911" tv footage she was using in the vid. Which it was most likely used because the show is based in LA and the female firefighter character in the clip is portrayed as a gay, black female firefighter/paramedic. Though it is stupid for the video to imply the reason why the character got the job was because of a DEI hire vs it was a job she made the choice to get trained in so she could help people.
I think people like that focus so much on enclusion. Because they themselves feel some type of way when someone not like them is around them so they project how they feel in others
I froze in confusion from the second part of that commercial. I'm a Dutch leftie and this DEI thing is weird. Don't you want qualified people instead of people that from the outside give you a 'good look'? Do companies get bingo cards for minority hires? "We just hired a disabled lesbian." "BINGO! Yesss!" // I saw that video with the female officer on the train tracks. In her defends, it wasn't like the guy was using his legs anyway.
If they want more females on the job, they need to recruit them and have them make it through the extensive firefighter training that is required by law to qualify. And it's not like firefighters arrive on a scene by themselves. There is usually a team working together on each call.
I went and watched the bodycam video of the female police officer rescuing the wheelchair guy that was stuck on the train tracks. To be fair to the female police officer, by the looks of it, the guy was in a motorized wheelchair which is heavy as a mfer. Add to that, one of the wheels was stuck in the tracks and she had mere seconds to get the guy out of the chair before the train hit. And most likely if the guy's legs didn't work, the guy would have been "dead weight" to move, meaning he couldn't really help that much to get himself out of the chair. The fact that she was able to pull him out of the chair, out of the way before the train hit is impressive. His legs were most likely injured either by the fall to the ground and/or when the train hit his chair and it would have broken apart like shrapnel.
I’m a firefighter, lemme try to explain what I think she meant. We have a term in training that says it’s “Not your emergency” meaning don’t get yourself killed over someone else’s mistakes and it’s a way to detach yourself to keep calm under stressful situations. I feel like she had this idea in mind when she said that and it’d be a normal funny thing to say amongst your crew. But she fucked up saying it online to the world and tbh I doubt she could actually pull a heavy person out of a building. Not cause she isn’t strong enough, but she looks like she got bad cardio 😂 but I know plenty of women firefighters who could
DEI is a philosophy as follows: You come out of work and find one of your tires is flat. Instead of fixing the flat tire, you puncture the other 4 to bring them down to the failure level of the flat tire. DEI is utter stupidity.
Of course it’d sound stupid when you use this analogy lol. It implies 1 demographic is mysteriously damaged, while the others are peacefully untouched, instead of 1 being catered to and the other oppressed (often by the catered to). Also, a car needs 4 wheels to operate smoothly; something like a movie, however, doesn’t need all the actresses to be able-bodied or thin or whatever else (unless the roles calls for it). With that being said DEI isn’t stupid, California is. There aren’t a limited number of positions for firefighters like roles in a movie, so you should be able to have the diversity hires and the actually qualified. I’m assuming this is performative to make younger generations feel welcome.
@@KF0107 all that time and effort to say absolutely nothing. There is nothing you can come up with to justify DEI. It is the worst agenda ever to infect the workplace.

playing devil's advocate here but with all the evacuation notices and people still stuck in the fire makes sense a fireman would make that comment from LA
That is not accurate. I watched the bodycam video last night as well as read the article on NBC news that accompanied it which said: "She unbuckled him, grabbed his torso and pulled him up out of the chair. "Get up, get up, get up, get up, get up!" Urrea screamed n the video while the Union Pacific train fast approached and she pulled him away. Urrea and the man fell to ground as the train smashed through his wheelchair feet away. "I need an ambulance now!" Urrea yelled out, with the sound of the train still speeding past." The bodycam video clearly shows she got the man out of the wheelchair before the train ran through it. They showed the guy lying on the ground after the train passed, lying parallel to the tracks, while she called for an ambulance for the man since his wheelchair had just been taken away by the train and the man needed to go to the hospital to be checked out. It wouldn't have been deemed a rescue if she hadn't pulled him out of the chair first because if he had still been strapped into the wheelchair he would have been un-alived.
