So a young rapper who had no real career to lose gave it a shot. He put out a song calling himself the rap god and no other rappers or even the media said a thing. Just “oh look Eminem’s new song is out. That was a good song”
I remember when this came out and when the DJ on the radio said ...only Eminem could come out with a song like Rap God and nobody has problem with it! LOL
The real deep part is when he says "Lyrics coming at you at Supersonic Speed... " Supersonic was a song from JJ Fad. Where she says "Summa Lumma Duma Lama..." in her rap.
So dope that Em shouted out his influences on Rap God and set the record for most words in a hit single, then set the words per second average record with the late Juice Wrld on Godzilla. The GOAT always paid homage.
@jasonblackwell5509 Yeah, that's what happens with records and competition, regardless of who sets them... it's only a matter of time. OP didn't say Godzilla still currently holds the record this many years later, that wasn't the point. He said, it set a record when the song originally dropped.... Which he's right, Em set a record with 'Rap God', then broke his own record with 'Godzilla'...and I bet if Em wanted the record back in 2023, he could get it. Who has the record now? Was he able to enunciate each word as good as Em? It's one thing to say that many words in such a short time, but the wild part to me is that you're able to understand every word Em says, in both songs.
That’s an immediate subscription for me. Every once in awhile I go on a Rap God reaction binge, and I’m never disappointed. This is definitely one of my favorites. Just a couple of top moments: 2:13 “It’s getting ugly, and it’s only a minute into this.” 7:44 “man he’s… what?!” 10:13 “I learned some things, put some dots together” 10:52 “I think this is one of my top three songs that we’ve reacted to from Eminem”… the realization you’ve got more reactions to Eminem just made my day! ❤
Listen to a lot of rap a decade after it comes out, and you can tell most of it sounds dated at best. That's because everyone in the rap genre seems to stick to whatever style of rap, and whatever beats, are trendy at the time. Em breaks that mold by always sounding different than the rest. Most of his tracks are timeless because they don't sound dated, don't follow trends, don't copy others, and are truly original. You can listen to some of his stuff that's literally 25 years old and it still sounds reasonably fresh today.
Marshall Mathers/Eminem/Slim Shady is in public eye more since his genius, skills and impact on hip-hop/rap was not recognized on its 50th anniversary. His music is not just hip hop/rap. His music makes you think, cry, laugh, hurt and sometimes bop, all while using a mastery of all of the components of the art of an emcee and baring his soul to his fans. Appreciate your reactions. You give Em honest and open reactions. Thank you.
tbh the fact that he wasn't included or even mentioned in the 50th Anniversary is ridiculous. Nobody can deny his skill and also his part in bringing Hip hop to the mainstream. He's been going for over 30 years now, love him or hate him he's influenced so many artists and even rap styles in that time. It makes you think the only reason he was excluded was either hate or ignorance (and personally I can't imagine the gatekeepers as being ignorant, I suspect they follow Hip hop pretty closely). imho
You have to listen to 'RapGod' a few times to catch all the bars! Lyrically, no-one from any genre can match his immense vocabulary - he's a walking dictionary and thesaurus - his rhyming schemes, flow, subject matter, his storytelling abilities, not to mention his rapping skills🐐Yet he remains humble, constantly paying homage to his peers - very few Artists do that. He is an enigma - labyrinth of puzzles within a riddle - that's why he's the undisputed #RAPGOD
and the way his mind works to find rhymes that other people wouldn't consider... like I saw an interview with him once and he was asked about his process in rhymes or something and he used the example of Orange, which technically does not rhyme with anything but he said that it just depends on how you say the word and break it down and was able to rhyme Orange and Door Hinge and a few other things like that.
This is the first vid I've watched on your channel, and you guys have a new follower! Rap God blew my mind the first time I heard it, and it still gets my blood pumping every time I hear it! Em, for me personally, is right up there with The Legends like Pac, Snoop, Dre, Missy Elliott, NWA, and Biggie Smalls. ALL of these artists introduced me to Rap and Hip Hop, and they were major influences on me as a white teen growing up in a very small, intolerant, redneck town. I got out for a few years, but ended up coming back. Still ain't changed though, and at 42 years old, I'll still blast some Pac or Em on my stereo! Now I've got a son of my own, who is almost the same age as I was when I discovered Rap, and he'll vibe out to some Em any time I put it on! ❤
This whole song is shouting out other rappers that came before him. The more i hear it the more i start to feel like it's not so much him claiming to be the Rap God, but him paying homage to the other rap gods that he looks up to. Those he is aspring for. Even the big rapid fire "Summa lumma dooma lumma" part is giant nod to JJ Fad.
Em always gives credit to the ones who influenced and inspired him. And I like that cause it shows he is a student himself or at least has been until he broke through the roof. Never forget where you come from and who was there (and there for you). Anyways, like I keep sayin, I like your vibes, guys.
It's actually hilarious because he is now inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when he said only Hall of Fame he'd be on is the alcoholic wall of Shame must check out his rock and roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony if you have not yet
Your (facial) reactions are the BEST! Marshall always shows what a student of Hip Hop he is! Medicine Man is crazy or Bad Meets Evil “Raw” might be wild as far as more great facial reactions!❤
I appreciate that this reaction video has someone that can explain the context of some of the lyrics. I think a lot is lost on other videos because they lack that. 👏👏👏
It was one of those loved or hated , any one who heard was like that was insane and anyone just looking to diss on eminem said it sucked without hearing it , and then like a lot of his shit its one of those that years after gets the respect it deserves because its so beyond most. Keep in mind my 70 Uni English Prof Mother who grew up on Dylon is always like all rap sucks except that eminem guy he goes to crude for me , but he is lyrically brillaint.
Em: I'm THE rap god. I already was before, but now I'm gonna spit it out in this masterpiece and dare anyone to tell me I'm wrong. Everyone else: Yep, no argument here Name another massively popular genre where an artist can make that claim and be met with silence.
I like that this was a response to something Machine Gun Kelly said where he said Eminem thinks he is some kind of rap god, so Eminem hit back with a diss track called Rap God. Eminem is the mf GOAT.
It's a weird cadence at first, until you realize he's trying to sound like a rapping robot or some sort of AI...Even it you don't realize that, the cadence grows on you and he also changes it up throughout the song. Em could sound exactly like the old em if he wanted, he could have any cadence and style he wants...but due to the fact he's sold more albums than anyone else, 6 time diamond (3 albums, 3 singles, and there's another album and like 4 more singles that will reach diamond in a few years), every album has reached at minimum 2x platinum, and he's 50 years old now...He doesn't care about the record sales anymore or making music to please people..Sure, he wants respect, but it seems like he's making music for himself and having fun with it and experimenting with various flows and cadences... One of my all time favorite records was 'Relapse', I actually liked the accents and the way he used those various accents to bend words to make them rhyme...He could only get certain words to rhyme by using those accents, which is incredibly creative in its own right. That is also one of the most visual albums of all time, it's like watching a horror movie inside your head while listening to it. If you want something deep, meaningful, and connect on a personal level, that album ain't the one, unless you're a sadistic serial killer....but if you're just looking for a fun/intense visual and emotional experience, combined with Eminem being at the top of his game when it comes to bars and creativity, it's an amazing album that's highly underrated...He was clean while writing this album in rehab, contrary to popular belief, but he was watching nothing but TV shows and documentaries on various serial killers... Someone leaked Relapse 'the refill' that he made and never released, instead he released 'Recovery'. I hope one day people appreciate 'Relapse' more and it blows up and goes diamond aswell... It destroys all his other albums when it comes to bars and pure lyrical ability, but I doubt it'll ever rank up there with the MMLP. People had such a connection with that album...and for good reason.
This song was created because people started to cole at Em since he hadn't done anything in a while. He had to come out of "retirement" to show all these weak ass new rappers that he was still the GOAT.
He was talking about when Ray J was at Mayweathers crib playing one wish on the piano and Fab called him gay for serenading a bunch of guys...and Ray j wasn't feelin that...😂
Like Tiger was to golf ⛳️ Lewis is to Formula 1 🏎 Eminem is to rap 🎤 Unbelievably EXCEPTIONAL “odd balls” dominating their vocation, where, traditionally, they had no place ever being. Gods indeed.

@Kayessee His early music was amazing for the time and he evolved as time went on. It's how he stays relevant.

I actually believe one day his lyricism will be studied in college because it really is that good
There's already a class at NYU that studies his lyrics

I was about to say, I took a college course called "The Poetry in Rock Music", so I wouldn't doubt it already exists.
