My favorite speedrun theme is when Daniel is explaining potential solutions to a relatively complex threat the opponent is making, and he ever so briefly pauses to tell the chat that the move they're suggesting blunders mate in one.
My engine (not a very good one) just rates it as a good move. Not the best, but perfectly fine. It's hilarious because the mental hangup over the mouseslip was infinitely worse than the mouseslip for real. We need to take a second after a mouseslip to calm down and not let it affect our play is the lesson here.
As Danya always says: A blunder is often followed by another blunder! True even for GMs, as we just saw. He was upset about the mouse slip and didn't think g4 through!
Totally agree! Danya is always very cautious about being a great example and playing well for us and that's awesome but mouse slips / blunders happen and it can be very instructive and relatable!
What a fantastic game! Recovering from a mouselip and a blunder and turning lemons into lemonade. With each and every speedrun video I remember why this is the only channel where my post notifications are on.
I feel like I could play as good as Danya as his moves and explanations make perfect sense as I watch. Then i play some, and stay in a constant state of discombobulation. Then I watch more DN and he does that thing where he see's a tactic and puts his head in his hands and says "there there there there, there there, there there there there, there there. ok it works." And then I want to delete my chess account because I have no idea how the hell he just did that in his head and I realize I am not even in the same stratosphere as a skilled player like that.
This was highly instructive!!! Even after a Blunder/Mistake there is always a way to rebound. Staying cool under pressure goes a long way in life and Chess.
Hi, Danya! I'm not that young anymore, so it's not always easy to memorize all the ideas you explain, but I really enjoy watching this series and still find it very useful for my understanding of the game
So, they say luck doesn't exist in chess, but I think we just witnessed a case here: at move 14, when he mouseslipped, he didn't play the blunder 14.Ne5, which he thought was best, but instead it would have lost a lot of his advantage (from almost +3 to just around +0.50). With that 14.Bf1 mouseslip, he played the best engine move! (together with 14.Ne4). Now, if this isn't luck in chess! ;-)
Danya will probably never see this, but I love your content! You’re a fantastic teacher, and I hope you keep up the great content! I’m becoming a much better player by watching all your videos!
I really enjoyed the sloppy play to be honest! This game reminded me much more of my own rather than seeing Danya steemroll a 1900 rated player. Great video!
Games like this are generally more entertaining than ones where you play very solidly for the first 15-20 moves and then get to capitalise on a mistake by your opponent. It's also more realistic for the level of players who sub to your channel. I suggested to Gotham that he make a speedrun series where on move 15, his subs would decide which blunder to make - call it the "blunder recovery speedrun".
2... Nf6 and 3... c6 was my main repertoire vs 1. e4 in blitz and bullet for years and I even played it occasionally OTB and took my first 2000s scalp with it when I was a kid. The e6 idea is a move, it's the Scandi gambit if I remember correctly. Not very highly thought of and probably isn't a move at all in this particular line
Nice practical lesson with the mouse slip and the following poor move. I wonder if in a slower time control the error shortly after might not have happened. But excellent display of regathering oneself and getting back on track.
5:40 I saw the bishop sac immediately but I'm sure Danya thought he had come up with a response and actually miscalculated like five moves deep Edit: Yep (ish)
Hi Daniel, I think you have great stuff. I notice a large majority of your games on youtube are playing as white and only a few with black defenses. Would really like to see you expand your teaching about playing common defenses with black. Thanks so much for all you do. Take care.
I almost feel bad for the guy, he caught a GM in a MASSIVE blunder and got to a straight up winning position but just couldn't help but make blunders himself.
GM's really never die, those games that seem to Danya like poor play by him only highlights for me how mistakes that i see as habitual, GM's see as game ending
The mouse slip wasn't a blunder. It was actually the best move in the position and stopped him from squandering his advantage with Ne5 (he explains the tactic after the game). g4 was the blunder.
No the icelandic gambit is when the bishop is still on c8 and u play e6 This was just terrible because it's like an icelandic gambit but with one less tempo for black
danya teached me literally to keep playing. always used to resign because of tilt. Then i realized a 1000 can beat a 1000 down A LOT material and honestly, those are the modt satisfying wins. When u play sloppy, resist the pressure and pull yourself out of the mud.
You can play down material, even a full piece, at elo ratings you wouldn't believe! 🤣 I would talk about my level, but actually there's multiple GM's doing queenless speedruns over 2000
Having a few more pieces out may not be a huge advantage in every position. Those pieces were not necessarily well coordinated - not attacking anything together. I had an OTB game in the smith-morra recently (as white), and I felt like I was crushing my opponent on development 4 pieces developed vs 1. I had a bishop on d6 blockading the d7 pawn, preventing black from occupying the center and preventing castling. But in this position (rnbqk1nr/1p1p2bp/p2Bppp1/8/2B1P3/2N2N2/PP3PPP/R2QK2R b KQkq - 1 9) w/ black to move, the engine gives -0.4 for black. I was shocked when I found this out. I still managed to win the game convincingly though.
The game went e4 c5 d4 cxd4 c3 dxc3 Nxc3 g6 Nf3 Bg7 Bc4 e6 Bg5 f6 (never play f6) Bf4 a6 Bd6. I thought Bd6 was such a clever move to just lodge the bishop in the heart of black's position, but the engine hates it lol. The game continued Qb6 Qd2 Nc6 O-O e5?? Nd5 Qa7 Nc7+ Kd8 Nxa8 Qxa8 Qd5 Nge7 Qf7 Rg8 Rfd1 b5 Bd5 Re8 Bxc6 Qxc6 Rac1 (no good choices for black at this point and he blundered mate in 1). Rf8 Qxe7#.

My favorite speedrun theme is when Daniel is explaining potential solutions to a relatively complex threat the opponent is making, and he ever so briefly pauses to tell the chat that the move they're suggesting blunders mate in one.
What is hilarious is the engine's top move was Bf1 which was his mouse slip, +2 for white. If Ne5 like he wanted it equalizes to +0.35 due to Nxe5.
Stockfish also mouse slipped and is trying to justify it
i thought even in that line he wins a piece by recapturing the knight with the pawn forking rook and bishop.
@@kennethbucsko8159 at the end of that line white can't defend the knight on d2 so black wins the piece back.

It's not what he meant. He meant the opposite side often also blunders
Danya, please never apologize for mouse-slips and mistakes! They often lead to unique instructional games and make for great entertainment
Totally agree! Danya is always very cautious about being a great example and playing well for us and that's awesome but mouse slips / blunders happen and it can be very instructive and relatable!
This was one of my favorite games since it felt more realistic to my level. Except for that endgame! Great lesson. Thanks again.
"That seems to work" is exactly how I play chess! Minus that calculating part.
I can relate lol
That mouse slip is so relatable, just that when I mouse slip I lose my queen, but Danya makes it looks like the Bishop made a tactical retreat.
Man, that was rough: First a mouse slip and then a BLUNDER. Good job on recovering from those two blows. Very instructive.
8:05 "we save the knight"
And simultaneously the day.
nice pun
Danya: Sorry for the mouse slip
Also Danya: deconstructs entire piece architecture for easy gg

The defense after blundering was very instructive
I've had multiple mouseslips recently. It's nice seeing a proper way to convert a blunder.
“There there… there… that seems to work…” famous last words
this game just shows you what a beast Danya is. Converting a lost position into such endgame against a 1900 player is mindblowing
at 28:10 after Nh5 i think white can just go Nxe6, or even Rxe6, and force simplifications.
you realize white queen hangs after Nxe6, don't you?
@@Mati-zc2ym yes, white gets 2 rooks for the queen. this + being up a piece is pretty favorable.

The mouse slip wasn't a blunder. It was actually the best move in the position and stopped him from squandering his advantage with Ne5 (he explains the tactic after the game). g4 was the blunder.

let the opponent blunder
