Great advice guys! I'm in Bacalar right now. Amazing! Went to La Playita today. Going to hit Los Rapidos in the next few days. Thanks for the content!

My wife and kids and I are headed to Holbox, Valladolid, and a few other places in the Yucatán in a couple of weeks. We’ve been enjoying watching your whole video series.

We did a day trip to Bacalar but wanted to go back for longer! It was on accident on Viator…thought we were doing a cenote tour in riviera maya 😂 but it ended up being amazing so I’m so glad I messed up!
And now we want to go back for longer

Aw we’re happy our video could give you that feeling! One of our fave places in all of Mexico - your accidental Viator booking sounds unfortunate 😂 here’s to next time! 🍻

Deforestation has played a lot in why the colors have changed.

I wonder if some of the change in the water is due to the environmental impact of the boats and people not respecting the request to avoid sunscreen, bug repellent, etc. since the ecosystem is so fragile.

I’m sure a mixture of everything you mention as well as (what we heard) increasingly varied weather and storms have impacted the water change. It is odd to us that they have a no sun cream policy (making us very burnt 😅) but still have so many boats roaming around the lake!

Ecosystem is not fragile, stuff will grow when the water gets warmer, all the Alge and turnover of plants from one to another...depends on temperature and what gets into water. The plants are tough.

When I was there, I was also told that there isn’t a good system yet for dealing with grey water and such, so that’s running right into the lake. With all of the developing going on, hopefully that will get sorted out. I’ve seen so many places around the world where the ecosystem collapsed because of sewage, runoff, soaps, etc.
