I like these shoes a lot. They’re great on long hikes, although I’ve never taken them backpacking with me. I have a pair of Vivo Magna ESC with the Michelin treads that I use on multi day excursions, although I wouldn’t hesitate using the Mesa Trails. Just prefer a grippier tread.
For day hikes it’s hard to beat the Xero’s.

Have you taken those to trail, carrying a load for a few days? It’s in the name, no offence, just curious. I have the same shoes on my wish list.

I have taken them on the trail but not with a heavy load (the most was a 20lb weight vest). If I was going to do a longer trek with q heavier load I would likely use something with a little more support. However, I would take this with me as they’re super light and they would be great to move around with any time I didn’t have a heavy pack on. I know that’s a bit of a gray answer but not having traveled for a few days with load I can’t specifically answer.

This is Wil @engearment. Yes, I use these for backpacking and approaches when ski mountaineering - pretty much everything in the mountains. Getting to that place took several years, and I started by using the rock plate from a pair of Altras. If you want something with a little more underfoot, the Scrambler Low (Michelin) (9.3 oz) fits the bill, and the Ridgeway Mesh Low 910.6 oz) has more again. The Mesa Trail II (7.8 oz) has plenty of rebound and provides trail feel like you would not believe.
