ok i really appreciate you taking the time out and making this informative video! Currently ive been in hospital and after 3long weeks im in a skilled nursing facility due to mer breaking my right leg. Im 35 yearsn young and since an i was younger ive been writing and people have always told me i shoiuld embark on writing a novel! ok lol im a beginner and i have my laptop with me just curious on ways i could possibly make money while im in this position and from the looks of things THIS WILL BE MY CHOICE!!!!!! thank you so much
You won't believe how much I needed this video. Recently, I landed my first writing client via Up-Work and it feels amazing haha. Currently writing in the Tech space. I do plan to write on other niches when I feel more confident. Thanks for all the awesome tips you provide on your blog and UA-cam channel.
Wow CONGRATS!! The first client is the hardest, seriously! That is awesome to hear :) Tech is also a great niche so well done. I hope the work with the client goes well and that some of the sites or tactics in this video help you out as well. Really appreciate you watching and your comments as always, seriously! Hope you have a great friday and weekend!! :)
Do you mind if I ask a few questions? How are you finding it 1 year on? What other platforms do you use? How did you land your first proper gig on UpWork?
@LilJoyce67 You can google my name Tom Blake blogger and see my writing on 10+ writing sites where I've been a freelancer for 4+ years at this point. These sites and the tip of pitching editors directly works but you have to hustle. I hope this idea works for you in the end, but it's not free or easy money. You need to grind. Best of luck and thanks for watching.
Without a doubt, this vlog is enlightening. Do you happen to know which fiction magazines pay the most for short stories, especially for Dark Fiction authors? So far from what I read, The Atlantic Magazine can pay $1,000 or more per short story. However, I don't know how elitist the magazine can be and if they reject Dark Fiction in general.
I just felt the need to point out that fiver is NOT a good place for new writers, as they are a "pay to get work" type of platform, where you're expected to buy credits in order to compete with other freelancers on job bids, and your not going to get any work without a lengthy portfolio. Even with that, you still likely won't get hired because your competing with expert writers who have been on fiver for years, fiver should not be on this list.
I started my fiverr account in june this year and I've made 500$. it took around 2 weeks for me to get a orderand since English isn't my first language I'm not a super skilled writer. Fiver is the only platform where I've actually gained some money so I think it should be on the list.
Awesome question! Having your own blog can help with this, but only after a while. The same goes with writing on Medium. In both cases, I've had editors reach out to ask me to write for them. You can also create a profile on Muckrack and editors sometimes look there I think. I hope this helps :)
How do you get seen and make it on things like freelancer or fiverr??? I tried and nothing happened. I don't have a big social circle in person or online...kinda on my own, not very good at marketing but I am a damn good writer...always have been and I feel like I really could be successful at it if I can find the right way to do it...any suggestions other than these?
How many posts/articles should I have in my portfolio minimum? how long do the posts need to be (on average) to convince potential clients or employers?
Great questions! I think it is more important to have a few articles in the same niche. For example, I started writing about personal finance on my blog and on Medium, so it was easy to approach personal finance blogs and websites and to show many examples. Even 3-5 is a great starting point I think. You can do this for any niche too, and it shows the client you are more of an expert than someone who writes about 10+ topics. And length isn't as important, but I know many clients hire people to write articles from 800 words all the way to 3,000+. Again, I think it depends on the niche, so look at what the top blogs in your niche are publishing and write similar content (since this is what people would probably hire you to do.) Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
Can a Wattpad write get into content writing? My brother and I have been writing for years but only last year did we publish some of our stories online. We want to get into content writing to give us an extra income. I've been watching UA-cam videos but we don't have any experience in content writing.
Thanks for this extraordinary piece. Are these sites, particularly Money Crashers for US based freelancers only? Your prompt response will be highly appreciated.
Tom, this was as GREAT video. Thank you for posting. I am very , very new to the freelance writing area. I am going to try ProBlogger and see what I can do. I am looking forward to creating a six figure consist income from this. What I really enjoy about this is that, as you said, you can be located anywhere and do this field. I live in the United State now, but I am planning on moving to Bangkok, Thailand very soon. So again, I can be in Thailand and do this ! Awesome ! Do you have a IG account ? Thanks !
In your experience, what is the market attitude toward writing and editing AI content? I have more than 100 marketing articles on LinkedIn that I used AI to create.
Great question! I think beginner-level writing jobs will become harder to land, but niche experts will be in demand still, especially ones who write about product reviews or recent content that AI hasn't trained on / learned yet. Generating AI content yourself on Linkedin, Reddit, Quora etc is a useful tool for things like affiliate marketing/parasite SEO.
Great idea, sorry for not mentioning! In my experience PayPal is most common but some clients (if large enough) might want bank transfer. But PayPal or Stripe for sure are popular
Hi Tom, My name is Saska and I am from Serbia. I am a journalist by profession and I am searching for an online writing job because I am working as an English teacher on two online platforms and I am fluent in English. Somehow I am looking for something different than teaching. In my country is difficult to find a job but I am searching for something decent paid. I would like you to help me to find a writing job. Thank you.
Yes thats the wirte way for earning but here many peoples making scam and froud with peoples Who offar the peoples that who will paid when after we give them write service and after the work was done the are move them difrat dimantions dosnt pay the mony against service
Writers from around the world can use them to my knowledge :) but specific publications/companies might have their own requirements. Thanks for watching!
A great question! I think beginner freelance writing gigs could be tricky to get, but not if you have industry experience or some knowledge that's not easy to gain just by reading or using AI tools. In other words, industry experts are still finding work. Alternatively, product review writers are still finding work since AI isn't great at these reviews. Tougher these days for sure but it's still possible to make money with freelance writing in my opinion :)
@@TomBlakeFinance .. possibly .... it is not that I do not have writing "experience" with a BA and Masters, yet AI has made vast inroads in eliminating work for writers. It will only be a matter of time before AI becomes a formidable force for "product reviews" and elsewhere. I guess that is called progress?? ✌✌
I don't think you write on that website, it's just a database on which websites do and don't pay you. You have to start following the links to the websites it lists and then follow up with *them* on writing for them.
Awesome video! I've been aspiring to becoming a blogger or copywriter since my early 20s. I would love to contact you for some advice. If you have the time of course.
"I" as the personal pronoun should be capitalised. "Anyone" should be preceded by a verb such as, "Does". You should have used either "a client", or the plural, "clients". If you intend to write in English, are you sure your grammar is good enough? Even if you won a job, you wouldn't want to waste time correcting several mistakes, that wouldn't be profitable. Please ensure that you have the skills and talent to be a good writer before you bang your head against a brick wall. Good luck!
