I'm so happy this is finally finished, I could not be prouder of this map!!! Everyone put so much hard work into it and the final project looks incredible, I'm so proud of how it came out and it was super fun to host!! tysm to everyone who worked on it and to all of the backups who stepped quick to help finish parts. This map focuses on Frecklewish's grief over the death of her brother, Birchface, as she projects on and idealizes the world around her in order to cope. She attaches herself to Mapleshade in particular over the assumption that Birchface is the father of her kits. This eventually backfires when it's revealed that this isn't true, destroying what little Frecklewish had left of her brother and her relationship with Mapleshade. Mapleshade decides to blame and get revenge on Frecklewish after her kits drown, and as Frecklewish is dying, she sees visions of her loved ones and what her life could have been like, before finally joining her brother in StarClan.

Though I do like Mapleshade, this MAP changed my view on Frecklewish.
At the beginning I knew Frecklewish didn't belong in the Dark Forest when it was announced. Though she shouldn't have called the kits 'creatures' she was still grieving and it was in the heat of the moment. I do believe that when she followed Mapleshade it was to apologize for lashing out but when she got to the river she saw the four of them drowning/struggling in the river and sat there out of shock and paralyzed by fear. Because that's how her brother died. She then saw the patrol and thought they'd be safe because it was a flood and she'd probably die trying to save them.
When she heard about the death of the kits I do believe she felt terrible and only continued by being hostile to Mapleshade because she blamed everyone but herself.
I love Frecklewish and she is now my favorite character.
Ya if anyone should have gone to the Dark Forest for that it should’ve been Oakstar and Ravenwing who where both actually directly involved in endangering the kits lives
Also under there logic why aren’t Rainflower and Bluestar in the Dark Forest
@@melodysmusicaladventures596 I don't think that Ravenwing should but Oakstar definitely should as exiling the kits has not been his only crime. He also waged brutal attacks on kittypets in cold blood

@Moon It wasn't just her being 'angry' and tbh comparing such a small comment to a planned murder isn't really fair. At all.
Frecklewish is a cat who was clearly depicted to be grieving for her brother. She (imo somewhat unhealthily) did attach herself to Mapleshade and the kittens because of this. Her being 'angry' was the result of realizing that Mapleshade not only lied to her, lied to the whole clan, but that the father of these kits was ALSO the cat who they all believed murdered her brother. Was it wrong to call them creatures? Yeah sure. But it was CLEARLY something said due to her trauma and something she probably would have never said if Mapleshade wasn't such an awful person and let Frecklewish (+ the clan) believe that Birchface was the father when in reality it was his 'murderer' and they only found out because of, again, Mapleshade being awful and careless.
And given that not only did she care for the kittens as a second parent AND defend both Mapleshade and the kittens at first when the truth was being revealed, but she also told Mapleshade she thought that the kits would be saved it kinda shows she doesn't hold any real blame on them in the first place.
While not justified, I guarantee nobody would be at all calm, cool, and collected if you find out your brother's believed murderer is actually the father of your sibling's kids that you loved so much. I'm also 100% sure we have all said things out of anger, hurt, and so on without meaning it. To compare any of that to being as 'unjustified' as a literal planned murder isn't fair at all.

I'll be 100% honest, this map made me cry a little. Maybe it's just the song or the fact I like Frecklewish but the talent of so many people working on this moved me. Good job to everyone who took part in this!
Yeah it’s sad that the writers threw her in the dark forest she deserved to be in starclan with her brother
I think, what made me nearly cry was the part before she dies, where she's kinda just laying there looking back at everything.
And also probably the fact that she's been nothing but sweet to Mapleshade :(

I love how this is both honest about what actually happened AND highlights how much Frecklewish seemed to care about Mapleshade. Like- this map paints these moments almost like she was in love… and it’s so sad to see how brutally it all ended. Honest, yet explorative. I like this a lot.
This is a great depiction of Frecklewish's POV in "Mapleshade's Vengance". I would not have thought of Mapleshade's reactions and personality like this, that she held little to no guilt over Birchface's and Flowerpaw's death and was more manipulative around the Clan than I originally thought. This just further proves that this book had an unreliable narrator as we couldn't see potential scenes like in this MAP that would have heavily influenced the reader's opinion of the characters.

When I heard that Frecklewish was put in the dark forest, I knew this was wrong. She had been grieving in the moment to learn that her brother’s supposed mate was not Mapleshade, and it was her brother’s killer. Her father was the one to banish the kits, which was forbidden from the warrior code, so he must’ve been in the Dark Forest. Frecklewish I feel was a really sad story, and I’m sad that she wasn’t allowed to be reunited with her family and friends but to be put with all of the actually bad cats. I’d like to imagine that her brother took care of Mapleshades kits as their parents wouldn’t be able to take care of them. Appledusk is with Reedshine, and Mapleshade is in the dark forest.
I’m thinking though, if Frecklewish is in the dark forest, would they even converse, let alone forgive?

I- I just realised to rub salt into the wound Frecklewish would be blind in the dark forest wouldn’t she? And she’d never see her brother again.
Not really, it isn’t confirmed that cats in the darkforest keep the scars that killed them but if you want you can head canon it and tbh it makes sense Because why wouldn’t they and considering in starclan all wounds and disabilities heals it would make sense that the DarkForest would be a polar opposite

@@flamindoritothe writing is inconsistent though because there’s several scenes with Brokenstar saying that he’s seeing something. I think half of the time they just forget that he’s blind
No actually cats with disabled condition(scars,broken bones,blind,deaf,mute) would go to StarClan without it or,if born with a scar that doesn't give the cat the possibility to walk,to walk anyway without pain.

It turned out awesome!!! Mapleshade's Vengance is my favorite book ever, and I feel like this MAP portrays both Frecklewish and Mapleshade super well. Mapleshade does seem a little cold, but I think for Frecklewish's point of view it makes sense. I just think this MAP is really cool and everyone did amazing
Honestly, I used to dislike Frecklewish a lot, but after watching this, it gave me a new view on her.
I honestly feel like she didn't deserve to be in the dark forest. She was manipulated, grieving, and lied to. She definitely deserved a second chance.
the ending where frecklewish mouths the lyrics "whatever she wants, whatever she wants" as succumbing to her death is what mapleshade wants and frecklewish is sadly okay with it. God it hurts so much 😢❤
and then birchface saying "whatever you want".. she only wanted to see her brother again :(
I almost never understand what's going on in WC MAPs because I never bothered to read past the Omen of The Stars series like 10+ years ago, but the way all these animators strung the story together made me really want to know the entirety of the characters history 😭

I love how you added the fact that Mapleshade purely doesn’t care that birchface and flowerpaw died. And she didn’t care that frecklewish was grieving and that’s why when frecklewish asked if their father was dead and thought that it might have been birchface Mapleshade saw it as a chance to lie(by omission) with no remorse and let the clan believe that Birchface fathered her kits. It’s a pure shame people still paint her out as a saint and completely ignore that she is a cruel being this being one of her cruelest acts to gain only what she wanted not caring who it affected in the process.
And if you can’t believe that then you’re only lying to yourself simply because you don’t wanna come to terms with the truth.
And PS: if you don’t know what “lying my omission” a simple definition of what it means is basically when you don’t give a clear answer to something and just leave the person assuming that something is true without bothering to correct them. And that’s basically what she did
Also to add Frecklewishs’ rage towards Mapleshade was justified as she literally lied about her dead brother being the father of her babies when in Reality his killer is their father. And she was just lying for 4 months straight to her face without an ounce of regret. If you don’t see how messed you that is then idk what to tell you.
However her anger towards the kits isn’t justifiable. Yes she has every right to be angry but the kits had no say and didn’t get to choose how they were born.
The only problem I have with this map is that it looks like Appledusk purposely killed birchface even though it was an accident but other than that this is perfect and I’m glad freckle is getting some positive attention
yes!! I have a dead brother and if someone did to me what Maple did, I’d be furious!! Freckle was in the right, Maple was a monster

Mapleshade is also set up to be an entitled person in chapter 1. She thinks she could break the code and hurt other people's feelings without consequences. She hurt everyone in MV when things didn't go her way, which is messed up. People who paint Mapleshade as a saint ignore this fact, and they also ignore how much pain she put on Frecklewish.
Agree with this comment except we only have Appledusk's word that it was accident. We don't know for sure. He very well could have intentionally pushed Birchface in. Apple and Maple aren't exactly reliable, after all. But at the same time, it could've also been an accident as he said.
@@zrainyday5266 Appledusk is a lot more reliable then Mapleshade could every be tbh. And they were fighting onto of the sunning rocks so it was more than likely a mistake where birchface slipped off and into the river and ngl I’d say that birchface is also at fault for his own death as they shouldn’t have been fighting somewhere so dangerous. The wiki also canonically says it’s an accident :v
I absolutely love this MAP all the parts are stunning and it shows Freckle in a proper light. For the longest time she hated for trivial and sometimes made up reasons (The only legitimate time where she was cruel was calling the kits creatures and attacking their mother in front of them which she evidently regretted later). I love her character because it's a very complex one. Especially for warrior cats. Side note, it always seems to be the complex characters like Frecklewish, Bluestar, Squirrelflight, Palebird, ect who get the most hate which is weird imo.
This map made me cry. Freckles wish has done virtually nothing wrong and She is kind and friendly, but her map is not much. I'm glad she has a nice new map.
She has done some things wrong but not nearly enough for her to be a bad cat and it was heat of the moment crap that she regretted unlike legitimately cruel characters like Rainflower who continued to unapologetically abuse cats. However, she isn't completely innocent. Calling the kits creatures was not okay
She watched the kits drown and denied them as soon as she realized they were halfclan cats. Don't agree that she ended up in darkforest, but don't think she didn't do anything wrong either.

@moxxie4882 She didn’t watch them drown, she was making sure they crossed, but then saw them start drowning but saw there was riverclan cats. So she probably thought, “Oh I can’t swim but they can so I think they will help her” and then left thinking they where gonna get saved.
God I love this map, it's breathtaking art, designs, palette, easy to understand storytelling and equal portrayal of both my girls without being forced to choose a side, Mapleshade's Vengeance is a complicated book about complicated characters, it makes them feel so real, and I still think it's my favorite book because of it

I just want to thank this MAP and it’s participants/host. It’s the reason I discovered this song, which I adore. I had a little crying session and this song helped me, since it reminds me of a tough situation I’m in right now with my best friend/ex gf. The situation gets increasingly difficult with my homophobic parents pushing us apart because they think we’re together again. This song really reminds me of her. Especially “I would do anything for you,” I really would. And I feel I’ve done too much for her, so much that I’m also ruining my relationships with other people.
Sorry about that, I went off on a little tangent. As for the MAP itself, I love it. All the art is amazing and everyone has done so much work. Great job to the host for putting this together, as well. This MAP will always be quite personal to me. Really Frecklewish as a character too, as I also lost my brother. Good job, everyone. I love this.

rewatch when she's with appledusk, or when she's looking at her kits before frecklewish comes in. throughout the book she's shown to dislike/not care abt frecklewish, or at least her emotions. mapleshade as a character is very selfish, only caring for herself and her kits (and mayyybeee appledusk for a bit)- it makes sense she'd behave this way towards frecklewish specifically.

This. Map. Is. AMAZING!!! It really shows in so much depth emotion and how much emotional trauma Frecklewish went through in her perspective instead of Mapleshades for once.

I adore this map. The song seems to fit the events of the map and Frecklewish herself so well - I've rewatched it so many times. I think all the characters were portrayed well (I always love to see how different people portray and analyze characters - so long as they are kind about it, which I have seen a lot of people being unkind about the way people portray Freckle just because it doesn't match what they think, which I find sad). But I like how the events of the map match to the events of Mapleshades Vengeance, just on Freckles side of the story. All the animators did so good with it -- all around an amazing map.

I love how this m.a.p has such a lovely view on Frecklewish, it makes her loving yet it also shows her iffy actions correctly
She still clawed Mapleshade’s face in pure rage
And she still watched mapleshade and the kits fall into the river
I love how this m.a.p also showed Frecklewish calling out for help then she sees a Riverclan patrol in the distance and leaves soon after when she believes they’ll save the kits
And the end is one of my favorite parts, screw you Erins Frecklewish is in starclan B]

Yall are being silly, I think it's obvious the point I was trying to make still stands. Obviously most knew who Frecklwish was, she hasn't changed, except for the Erin's deciding to send her to the DF, now all of a sudden this random character with less development than sorrelstripe is a community darling that's getting a ton of attention from the Fandom. Again, if she went to starclan, almost nobody would give her any attention, other than her association with the iconic Mapleshade.

Very beautiful ! Every artist did such a great job ! The theme and colours and feelings all blend together perfectly.
I like both Mapleshade and Frecklewish for all of the ways their psychology and personality can be interpreted and portrayed, but I do have a soft spot for this version of Frecklewish. The authors really did her dirty sending her to the Dark Forest, and I'm glad there are projects like this to remind us not everything is black and white.

A lot of people forget that freklewish didn't die straight away. Because there was no medicine cat no cat could heal the vemon. There for she was left for days knowing that was slowly diving. Imagine how she felt. Wondering if she did the right thing.

Honestly I cannot mention the tearful replays i've done to this MAP. It's beautiful and sad and i can only say how much i love it through a comment. I wish i could've done more than just comment. Eventually hug the host and the animators for such a beautiful map. Good story-telling and animation, keep it up, everyone! And host, you're doing amazing.

This was a beautiful map to watch! I barely hear songs from pheobe bridgers used in warrior cat maps, or pretty much any maps. This actually made me shed a couple tears.
This was a beautiful MAP, but nothing can make me not hate Frecklewish.
@@madamecheesey First of all, I have every right to have my own opinion and as long as I respect others enought that I'm not trying to force it onto them, I should get the same respect from others. Secondly, Mapleshade deserved to go to the Dark Forest too. I never said she didn't. She was dumb and naive, took a mate from another Clan, lied to her clanmates, tried to cross the river when it was obviously dangerous, and then (even tho grief and fever drove her insane) she did k!ll other cats. So yes, she is a villain, who deserved punishment. But she wasn't the one who blamed 3 innocent kits for her brother's de@th and she wasn't the one who saw those three kits being washed away by the river and has done nothing at all... Frecklewish wasn't a m*rderer but in my opinion, she was a cruel cat who decided that 3 kits deserved to d!e just because their parents wronged her. That is not acceptable and I will not feel bad about disliking her for it.

I love both maple and freckle, maple is sassy and sly, while also soft on her kits, freckle is very interesting and I also love how Much of a snarky jerk freckle is, she's constantly mocking and making fun of others and its really funny she also haves extensive greif over her brothers death as well, my favorite lesbians❤

i hate the fact i deeply hated frecklewish before,honestly this completely changed my feelings towards her,she was just a grieving cat latching on the last of the so called feel of her brother. which when she found out that was a complete lie she simply lashing out was all she could express of her pain. she wanted to say sorry and i know she felt remorse.

I love the head cannon that the information Mapleshade got about Freckle watching the kits die was false. Like maybe she realize oh probably sending innocent kits was wrong and not their fault. Maybe she decided to run and try to get them only to arrive just as they all had drowned. She saw only the aftermath and the info was just lost in translation from cat to cat. She maybe resented Mapleshade and realized not only was she mad at her for betraying her trust, lying about her brother, but also killing kits that she bonded with. She probably felt immense guilt by how she acted in the moment of calling them half clan and realized she was wrong and hated herself for letting them go. Maybe when she dies she apologizes to the kits for her supporting them being cast out and when they forgive her, she goes to Starclan and becomes there adoptive mother. (I just really love this idea, frecklewish was not a perfect cat but I wanna think that’s what really happened not through the lens of the clearly biased and manipulative Maple.)
Why would Nettlepaw and Frecklewish herself lie about she witnessed? She watched them get swept away and left.

@@imaginarylivingbody7154 The only information we actually know is that Frecklewish wanted to make sure that Mapleshade had left and she saw her and the kits getting swept away, then she saw the RiverClan patrol (y'know, cats that can actually swim) and then left. She probably thought that the kits would be saved and left, since there wasn't anything she could do.
Also, she probably reacted so harshly because the kits we're Appledusk's (the cat that caused Birchface's death) and because Mapleshade technically lied about the kits being Birchface's
