He definitely redeemed himself after he got out of prison. It was also like having a grandson gave him a second chance to do better and be a better grandfather than he was as a father.
Dan in my opinion was never a bad guy or evil he was just deeply misunderstood and filled regret and anger. Jamie did something no one knew was possible he saved Dan Scott he saw the good in him and helped him get redemption.
