Your playing, phrasing and chord choice is just so addictive! No-one else on UA-cam cones close! Amazing stuff!
I've had one of these for a few months, it lives in my FX loop for cutting mud, and the high-pass/low-pass. Always on. Great playing as always, Pete!!
love the Para EQ. nice demo Pete. all the best to you!
I got this a few months ago, totally fantastic state of the art pedal and to me, far superior to graphic EQs. My second Empress after getting their equally great revamped compressor pedal. You're getting top notch quality for your money and this is a time when spending more also gets you more, a lot more. Bonus for me in supporting a Canadian company .
I love this one too. A keeper!
@@MartialBoniou FOREVER TILL I DIE PEDAL!
Fantastic demo Pete! You truly are a legend in the field!
Thanks so much!
You had me at that 60s strat - my favorite guitar in your collection. Demo and song are both top notch (per usual)!!!
Love a parametric EQ bit of a secret weapon! This one I find really useful to take out an annoying hiss from an otherwise awesome fuzz. These are like tone surgeons!!!
Sizzling tones Pete!! Great retro vibe, love your strat sounds on that song
Pete, of all the pedal demo guys on UA-cam you are the most versatile dude. You do a great job using the gear in many genres and your playing is phenomenal. Thanks for all you do.
Thanks!
Very nice demo - TY Pete!
Loved that opener with all the different flavors.
I know eq’s are perceived as a utilitarian type box and probably not as popular, however I sure appreciate you demo’ing them as I use them on everything🤘
I feel like there was a lot going on there but your playing was also killing so I was just caught in the groove! Awesome tune and the demo was good too! Haha
I have the previous generation several years now and love it. These also make fantastic guitar preamps for going straight into AD conversion when using amp sims or re-amping.
Great video! You’re a fantastic musician Pete!!
Thanks!
I own one now! Best tone shaper I have ever used! It’s just straight forward great design without any fancy stuff :)
Listening to this jam again, love it. Just got this and this vid is an incredibly useful reference.
Another great wee intro tune followed by an interesting demo. 😂👍👍👍🥃Respect to you mate.
Pete, please make an album with your jams on it! They are so good!!!!
Outstanding. Thanks pete
Notice that this pedal works as a 27V one (for more headroom), has a wide Q factor control for each band and shines in front OR in the loop (for tone shaping)... also it has a very efficient LPF/HPF (as shown in the demo; remove the fizz not the sizzle, kill the flubbiness not the oomph)... IMHO this pedal is a keeper
Damn straight. But if you need this kinda EQ, you are playing the wrong amp, with the wrong speaker and using the wrong guitar. For realz playa! That is straight from the Studio Gods. Facts. EQs are for newbies.
@@benburnett8109 "Newbies" like Tim Pierce? Sure...
Picasso had the blue period, red period etc. Bob Dylan had the pre-electric and post-electric. This is a new Pete era with the new hair-do. The guy is just awesome. Love him.
I tell you what!! Everytime I see Pete grinnin from ear to ear! I know it's gonna be a freeky Groovy Tune!! U Did not let me down Pete, U rocked it Out of The Park Brother!! Love me some EQ that pedal is almost as awesome as U Pete 🎸🤘🤠👍🔥
Awesome vibes!!!!!
Excellent for Single Coils
I’ve got the standard version on the way. I’ve had 3 MXR 10 band eq’s fail or just be super noisy and I think as cool as the deluxe version is, I’m afraid I’d get choice paralysis and, for me, less is more.
Hi Pete. Fantastic review and tutorial. Thank you. What is the make of the pedal holder/mount you are using in the video?
love that funk groove at beginning
what did you use for the drum tracks on this demo?
Oh that's great! Does this go in front of the amp or in the fx loop?
Great playing, no, awesome greaaaaaaat playing!!!! What is the difference compared to the previous version, apart from size?
Could you please touch on some techniques for dialing in a parametric EQ? Between the Katana and my Boss GT1 there are EQ's all over the place but I don't think I'm using them correctly.
Adrian Belew in the early 80's used to get this electric unplugged twang sound that I could never quite figure out how to get.... (You just showed me where to go Pete)
Adrian used a Palmer Rack Amp. That was the secret to his tone. This half assed piece of overpriced gear will not get you close to The Great Adrian's tone. No matter what Pere says.
Killer track!
Just out of curiosity. What would the guitar community think of a dual pedal thats the Empress ParaEq MkII DLX and the Empress Compressor MkII with a toggle switch that changes the order, and a trs i/o that allows for making each side independent in ur signal chain or with a flip of a dip switch make the trs a stereo i/o for using like a channel strip at the end of your chain? I want this pedal so bad, but to take it further, it would be cool if the compressor was like the Crazy Tube Circuits Golden Ratio Phi where u have OTA, FET, and Optical options and add an expression output that can control a HP or LP filter for filter sweeps. I know thats a lot for one pedal, but a person can dream. 😁
Nice!!
Excellent work in this video. I’m a new fan. Am looking for a really good floor eq that can help shape my mesa nomad 55 2x12 because it lacks bass meat.
Any ideas on what would be optimal in the $200/$250 range? I saw a para eq fur $199 used.
Any ideas would be so much appreciate.
@Pete … missed Sunday Live damn it… this is another killer tune and demo - so when’s the next CD … even better do vinyl… just say’n
Vinyl is way too expensive. And Vinyl sucks compared to zip drives. Unless you are one of the fools that "likes the feel of records" Rotflmao
@@benburnett8109 …
Would be interested to hear how this works boosting a Marshall… à la the old furman pq3 trick..
Putting aside,THAT PETE could Take a Squire Strat, plugged Into an EH MUFF FUZZ, then some Behringer Chorus,Reverb,Delay, Into THE FRONT Of A
$100, Mediocre at best,No Name SS Combo Amp, With an EH Muff Fuzz plugged Into The Front of the amp, SOUND Like He Was Plugged into a Hi- Dollar Fractal Preamp,Some Eventide Stomps, JUST KILLING IT...
This EQ sounds like Something I NOW HAVE TO BUY...
THANKS ALOT PETE...
Lmao!!!
Pete Can Take His PT MOJO And Perform MIRACLES.
Thank GOD,He's HONEST,And Calls Out A TURD That Somebody's trying to Get His Endorsement.
Without His Truth Telling, He could Sell Us on some False, But Well Hyped CRAPOLA.
Pete HAS The Final Say on Reviewing anything I've been on the Fence About. LAST Review Pete did on a Piece Of COOL GEAR He made My Purchase Decision On , Was the EVENTIDE Micro Pitch Delay.
It Is Now a PERMANENT PART OF MY FX LOOP.
PETE,YOU ROCK BROTHER, THANK YOU!!! 🤟😎💕🙏👉🫵
Nice!
In front of a Deluxe clone, to control bottom end, and sweeten mids and control harsh top end, AND to potentially adjust volume/signal between different guitars, do you place this pedal early in the chain (post germanium fuzz) or at the end of the signal chain?
I’d be running fuzz, compression, two or three OD pedal and a delay pedal.
Pete, can you try it on a bass too?
I had the original paraeq, it's so versatile and covers so much ground, it would definitely work great on bass or just about anything.
The real test of a good EQ is if it stays out of the way of the actual guitar tone so you don’t wind up with that slightly processed sound. Does this do that?
Does it have the same boofer as the older versions?
What year is that Strat? I have a 79 hardtail love it!
64!
But does it PQ3 ?
Empress or source audio eq 2?
slicknesss
would def get it if it had midi
Is the circuitry in these analog?
This might make me retire my Furman PQ-3
A pedal like this would be so much more useful if it had the ability to save, store, and recall presets on the fly.
Well, you can save store and recall, you just have to do it using the app …
Any ParaEQ owners feel that it’s too fiddly for live use? Or is it quite quick to dial in on the fly?
It's not bad once you're familiar with what the knobs do and if you know what you're trying to achieve. Without some basic eq-ing knowledge you can make things worse quickly though.
Nice John Frusciante / Dave Simpson vibe going on with the demo.
💪
Eq fx loopp 😘😘😘😍😍😍😍
Is this the same pedal that they have had? Just in a different housing? And re-released...🤔
Ive had this pedal in the past-
Pero si es Elvis! ...ElVisco!
Nice hair x
Love your canal Pete and get the importance of eq. But whats with the hair??
I heard this pedal was wobbly. Like it wasn't sturdy. I decided not to get it for that reason. I probably should have just got. Ugh
Wobbly? They are super-well made!
@@PeteThorn OMG I was duped! Ugh I'll eventually get one
The pedal is quite well built. You should have zero concerns about that. It’s phenomenal.
@@michaelrains64295 yeah I'm pretty sure the guy that told me it wasn't stable. He probably went and got the same one I was looking at. Lol
@@PeteThorn Like a TANK!
Pete, it sounds digital as opposed to analog. Is it digital?
It is all analog
Way too many knobs!
Pete; you've stated before that the most powerful "tone shaper" is our fingers. What changed? How come this pedal (whom the company paid you to review) is NOW the most powerful toneshaper? As a new guitarist; and certainly no where near your skills, I wonder how you could change your mind in 12 months time?? This whole "paid for" concept seems really dubious?
Explain how you'd achieve those tones using just your fingers.
Wait, don't bother... I've seen your other simple-minded attempts to garner some much needed attention.
Dismissed.
How much shaping of ‘tone’ does a guitarist need?! It’s more to do with the music than it is the sound of a guitar. Chasing effects pedals is a fetish and at some point in the late 80s everything became repetition.
I would agree that some people go way too heavy on the pedals. I think the sweet spot is somewhere between a nice group of high quality pedals and the Joe Bonamassa School of just plug it in and play. As far as this pedal goes, although I think everyone can benefit from a very good quality EQ pedal this one is probably overkill for most players. Also, the price puts it out of reach for the average player.
Respectfully, It’s what I do on my channel. 🤷🏻♂️ there’s other channels, if you don’t like it…?
@Pete Thorn There's that as well. 😄
@@PeteThorn Pete, my comment was directed at the endless amount of effect pedals, not you!
