They did actually do the full course meal thing, but it proved a failure commercially. Instead of a gum, it was a jaw breaker, with different flavored layers that show up as it melts in your mouth. Unfortunately, conflicting flavors proved unpopular, so discontinued it.
The Wonka bars use to exist until a chemical accident at the factory happened, involving a lot of the workers being injured, and then Nestle took over the company and they did away with the Wonka bars completely.
