Not really a fan of Kanye these days but I was able to attend the Watch the Throne tour twice and it was magical. It's rare that rappers give you a SHOW, they usually just walk back and forth the whole time lol but this one blew me away.
The best rappers tours are the ones that don’t go in just to sing their songs and be boring, they give you maybe a small freestyle and some nice feelings once u leave, they got u thinking “damn I wanna come back for another show.”

Considering he was producing hits since the mid 1990s and eventually becoming a rapper and trailblazing the hip-pop industry from 2004 - 2012 before his decline (both mental and album sale), cultivating his own unique sound now found in so many musicians styles, I think 16 - 17 years of being in the biggest circles and even often at the top of hip-pop has got to count as iconic.
Not much of a fan of Kanye since Yeezus, but I can't deny his musical legacy, creative process that led to his plethora of hits and musical style that lead to a new gen of hip-pop. He was doing a lot of this stuff before Streaming and social media centric PR was as big as it is today so getting those numbers wasn't as easy either. Not to mention Kanye is on virtually every list of Most Iconic rappers of all time. From Rakim to Eminem to Tupac to JDilla & Nas, you'll find Kanye West on that list. Which is why even Hip-pop's greats like J Cole and Eminem at one stage at least looked up to Ye, like it or not.

In rap if you rip off a song and put a drum beat over it you're "sampling." Kanye became famous off of other people's music. He constantly rapped over other people's music and added a drum beat so he could call it "sampling." This dude is a fraud. If you put in the time to see how many songs he ripped off of artists in the 70's, 80's, and 90's it's shocking. You can call him iconic, i'll call him what he really is, a fraud with a drum machine.

Personally being a rapper from a middle class background and having been around street dudes, I can tell you this: street dudes typically don't like or get on with rappers who aren't from the streets because they supposedly 'don't know the struggle' and they don't really know what to make of them (This was evident when they only wanted to use his beats and not give him a contract as an artist back in the day). Hov believed hip hop is 'for the streets' but that came with its own share of problems - street rappers can't take any sort of competition whatsoever. So it was already tense to begin with, and the 'big brother' relationship was clearly one-sided. So when Kanye married Kim Kardashian, that was sort of the 'final straw' as he believed she was too tacky. Lastly, Jay-Z being an icon of afro centrism and black pride, and Kanye West being a republican and endorsing Donald Trump, Hov's brand is supposed to represent equality and diversity, and considering he IS a business man, it's not a good look for him to be associated with a known Trump supporter.
