Repair it yourself with used/new parts, film it and come back to have Steve inspect it?
It would be a very cool series to watch. Going for used parts should reduce the cost a lot and i guess it would be a cool experience for them and us.
I'm for that idea 😁
Or buy another £1000 s class as a donner car and after you have finished with it part it out to get your two grand back

Great idea

Funny and all have the same problems
I had one of these from nearly new and loved it, doing a weekly commute to Aberdeen for 3 years, about a 1000 mile round trip. I think the trick is keeping on top of maintenance and seeing one of these with dirty oil and filthy air filters would make me not walk away but run.
I had a S600 of this generation from near new as well. In the 6yrs I had it the only expensive item that went was the ABC pump and covered by warranty. Cosmetically it was perfect…the older W220s, as MegaSpec is did tend to suffer more with issues. My father bought an S500 when it came out and after 4yrs had issues even the dealer weren’t sure they could fix (problem with battery draining)

Ann Onimous you’re missing the point . it’s Mercedes so they’re far more expensive. And on that note the other chap is correct I wouldn’t want him to MOT my car and nor would most people on here. Always shop around

"You would, not in a good way"

Restore it by yourself with cheap parts from ebay or the junkyard, it is a nice car, and it should be in proper condition again.
I did something similar, i bought a cheap pickuptruck with lots of problems, the repair shop wanted some 5k for all the stuff, and i said nah and bought used parts and relatively cheap new parts, for example i paid 200Euros instead of 800 Euros for 2 Front wheelbearing-assemblys, because original parts are mental expensive. That didnt include labourcost, but i spent a lot on specialtools hahaha, i would say i spent around 700Euros now instead of around 5k, because labourcost and original parts are mental, if you cut those two out you will save yourself a lot. But you need Time and good research.
Yes
Ebay parts. One week. Two men. Couple cases of beer. $3000 tops.
That's how we fixed the front left axle on my 105 Landcruiser, that was $2000 in parts, and $100 on beer. I'd hate to know what a mechanic would have charged.
two abs sensor cables for my Honda, dealer price 390uk. ebay price 5.99 delivered and they have worked for 4 years now. Dealers generally have 1000 percent plus markup. The biggest scam is oil. They buy 200 litre barrels at around 1 tenth the price of 5 litres in the shop. They then charge u 5 litres at shelf price. So people think they are paying just for labour not so!

The whole car could be bodged for a couple of hundred quid as well 😆.
im an amateur mechanic working in my friends shop specializing in old bimmers. a zip tie would be a temporary fix, overtime due to engine heat and vibrations, it will break or melt and could make the fan spoil faster. i would instead customize a new bolt in a different location but basically im saying the whole fan doesnt need replacing if it works but it does look like an old fan.

Agreed
Its about who pays him the most money and not about your desires...
Brilliant, a USA comp only. Genius. Where are you from again?
Thank you
If your main demographic is USA it makes sense. Don't be daft mate. It's the internet.
Do you think only people in the UK can watch these videos just because Car Throttle is based in the UK? Huge US audience.
Hey, we gotta watch something on this side of the pond since top gear died!
@@DowntownMowgli that doesnt mean america makes up most of the viewers, one day you yanks will realise there are many other countries out there other than you mass shooting riddled country
"I don't think the oil has been changed as much as I would like". Color me surprised.
Cost you less than $3k with new aftermarket parts.
Or used. Maybe even for a grand. Bag of sand challenge!
Your local doley car guy could fix all that
It's not our typical 350z to have a great "aftermarket" support tho...
after markets suck especilly on german cars buy those parts and have a good luck driving 10.000 km/h without something failing OEM parts are a relible and a better choice..
@@Justice-qw7sj I bet even oem parts will have some trouble at mach 10.
i mean... you can fix it MUCH cheaper than that. smh
Sure, you might be able to fix it for £2-3k if you buy used parts and do it yourself. Still not worth it though considering the car is worth £1,000 and won't be worth much more even if you fix it.
@@tibor29 car was cheap because it was shagged. If you said this is what's been done, it's in top condition you could get profit out of it but if you were to do it you'd probably do it to keep
@@tibor29 does it have too be more worth? I mean that could be a series: how to repair an uneconomical car to repair as economical as possibel.
Considering that the car was probably around 120k when it was new, I’d repair it for 3-4k. The problem these days is, that if a repair costs more than the car itself, people get rid of it without thinking about the value. I drive an E36 and I don’t know how much I spent on it over the years. I know that it’s well over 4K easily and it’s just a 318i. But the car will be more worth if taken care of since it’s becoming a classic. And i net that the S500 will become such a classic too eventually. I don’t think that you get a decent car (in the realms of an S Class) for the money you are spending. If you spend the money on the repair, you know it’s new and repaired and that you do not have to worry about it. That’s my opinion 🤷🏻♂️
@Yalondi Supherfon I agree, I've done alot of body work and I know that all you need there is 2 door skins from a scrap yard and fit and spray, arches will be a bit more tricky but still not difficult really. People don't realise that when you have any skill at all repairs on cars are cheap as chips, I could fix that rust and respray that whole car for about £600. Maybe less
I remember a colleague telling me about the used BMW 750 he'd just bought. It needed new pads all round and the dealership quote was £800.
That was 28 years ago.
dunebasher1971 ha ha ha !
£100 job
I knew a guy who worked Saturdays in a BM workshop. Reckoned they once found brake shoes made from WOOD. Work of art he said. Believable at £800 for pads.
That mercedes specialist Steve at Stevensons really knows his stuff ..respect to him and his crew for their knowledge and skill ....
Surely a lot of parts can be bought off eBay or decent scrap yards, I mean who would pay £1000 for a headlight?
This is a Mercedes dealer, so their likely quoting OEM prices rather than Ebay/Scrap yard or aftermarket. As for the headlight, I may be wrong but was the Tech not quoting the price for the entire unit there?
For this car? Nobody.
A headlight for a b7 passat is well over 1000euro.
He did buy the whole car for less than £1K so.....
FCP EURO IS BETTER TO BUY FROM SINCE ALL THEIR PARTS ARE OEM AND IT HAS LIFETIME WARRANTY
Him: so we would have a locked diff? looks at camera*
Mechanic: Not in a good way though
Him:oh
A nice DIY weekend project if you have a garage with a lift and time.
I was sitting thinking 10 large to myself, not a bad guess, makes me glad I run something cheap. wow.
"Delete air suspension" kit costs less than 1000 pounds... Second hand headlights. Second hand exhaust parts rust can be fixed with parts from donor car and it is not that expensive
You have to fix it!
You are morally obligated to do it now.
Used parts and diy all the way...
Just wait a few hours and it will be 2nd in trending again
Fingers crossed :)
@@alexkersten1964 I was right
