Chalk lines every 4 1/2ft from trough to ridge and cut the lines out w a knife. Then start ripping row by row from the ridge down like you would rip 3tab.

They're a decent tool but not an every job tool. Primarily for low slope, sheeted roofs. We use ducks foots which in my opinion are better constructed higher guage steel etc. The draw back of this tool is its versatility and construction.

It’s usually for venting out the ridge caps, helps with the expansion and contraction. Basically let’s the attic breath, Very common!

Most work boots have slippery solid soles with a heel and will damage the new shingles. Would you rather have people slipping constantly and damaging the new shingles? How about removing the roofing nails instead of stepping on them? Are you using pitch forks that don't remove all of the nails when tearing off shingles?
i roof for 10 years and only got a nail in my foot once and it wasn't a bad one. never wear steel toes. those are dogshit
