Good job👍 I think most folks thin the glue to get better penetration through the canvas. Will be interesting to see over time if you get delamination - I hope not. I purchased glue and canvas but now if I do a foamie for my Mav - it will be in regular fiberglass -- just for more strength. Cheers
So far its been one year and the camper sat for 2 months on 100+ amd has done 2 winters thru freezing temps just sitting the past 2 months as well. Still no delam, i think it would have happened by now. I did pretty heavy top coat and a pretty decent undercoat to make it stick but not too much so that the outter coat could still seap into the fabric which water proofs it. Then paint over that.
I fully intended on building my own cap for my Ranger. But I decided to save the time and make the investment on an ARE aluminum cap. I wanted it strong and wanted it to last. I move boats on top of my truck etc. I spent a lot of money on my cap and regret it 100 percent. The build quality is crap, and ARE has never bothered to respond to me. So kudos to you for doing your own thing. It works and is a lot cheaper. I have no doubt after a little use you will decide to make some changes and make a second one. We all do it lol. Good idea doing the tabs on the foam to interlock.
Some people add the water to the glue so it doesn’t dry so fast and gives you more work time. You could also use a spray bottle with water to help keep a section wet while working. But it all depends on how well prep and get ready to work. Camper looks great! Good job.
The glue does come yellow so it might be hard to do, that sounds like a lot more work to try to mix the glue then just paint afterwards I would think. I dont think it would stick with just paint and to be honest I cant remember which type of paint I used. I might have just got what ever said "outdoor paint" on it
@@AdventureLiteCampers thank you excellent instruction. Film is not exactly correct, it's the aluminized surface layer. The pmf will only be as good as that bond. Thank you for helping me think on a Sunday am haha
Perhaps using spray and starch on the canvas when using the iron might help get rid of the wrinkles well. I just don't know if it was cause a problem with the glue.
What did this project cost? I was thinking of doing the same with a tiny house, I got the canvas long ago when it was cheaper and got the glue, all I need is the tiny house bones.
Love your imagination and follow through! Way to go man! Tell me why didn’t you go over the truck cab for a sleeping bunk? Second, you ever going to put in a window or skylight? And How much does it weigh now do you think? Cool n project. I just want to use foam board for a 3 section foldable flush truck bed cover. Thanks again! Let’s see some more camping pictures!
Thank you! I wanted to keep it aerodynamic jist didnt need to go over the cab, i do have a fan for the roof that i still need to install an no windows so i can stay stealth, air flow comes in between door and tail gate just fine. That sounds like a fun build you have planned!
Great video! By the way, I have a question: what if it gets dirty and you want to clean it? Can you clean it like you would a car, using a pressure washer and car soap?
@@AdventureLiteCampers oh cause i was thinking what if i use PMF to cover a tricycle's sidecar instead of steel sheets. thanks!. BTW, if u paint it black, would it look like it has a matte finish?
@@darkguitarist3476 that should work, if you use matte black yes! Haha it has a natural rhino lining style finish but you can sand it to smooth it out i just didnt want to do the extra work
I know you're gonna think this is nuts but i had a vision of your truck a few hours ago. I made a video about what id saw. I randomly get on UA-cam shorts, now and your truck comes pops up and I'm like Holy shi. Are you heading to Louisiana at all or something with finding your next direction? That's all i saw but i felt like i should tell you about it. The vision i had was a ford ranger pictured like i was standing on the passenger side and there were like these weird lines behind it after, which made me now realize they were the mountain paintings. Yes i am a medium channeler and idk 🤷♀️ something about finding your center of the compass where all the roads lead. I hope something about this will make sense to you. ❤
Hi 😊! Very interesting video, lovely camping and nice camera work. Keep on ! I also make camping videos, before in Russia, ow in Vietnam. Take care! Good luck with your channel!
Ive seen it done, def cheaper route then painter canvas but i like the canvas because its quite a bit thicker and more heavy duty for the glue to really penetrate in there. Maybe spent 25-30 total on them brand new
Its all in the video and loads more info on my channel but quick summary, I used foamular board with wood glue to adhere painters canvas to it, then cover it in wood glue to water proof it, paint it and its ready to camp
Most latex dries pretty quickly. I would have thought an oil based paint to be better as there would be lots of time to get everything right. Plus, in my experience oil paints stick better. Yes, it takes a lot longer to dry.
Thank you! Heres $2, its not much but imagine if every one who got QUALITY INFO from this guy should donate as well. WELL WORTH IT 👌🤘🤙
@@FrontYardRC thank you!! Much appreciated 🙌🙌🙌
The pioneers had Conestoga wagons. Funny that nearly 150 years later we are using canvas on our vehicles.
Its goood stuff!!
Composites have been around a long time.
We just have better materials now.
Nice set up, perfect for a weekend getaway 👍
Thank you, that was the plan ,as well as not break the bank
Good job👍

This thing is insanely strong go look up a video of people trying to cut their pmf. Its tough stuff!
looks pretty dang good man. keep up the cool content! and you got a new subscriber from one struggling youtuber to another.
Thanks brother ill give you a sub back 🤙🤙🤙
Enjoyed the video. Very informative. Thanks!
Thank you for watching and commenting! Glad you got some info from it
How is it holding up? Did you use exterior grade glue or a water proof glue? Cool project. How much does it weigh?
its just Tite Bond 2 wood glue, not indoor or outdoor specific. Thank you, I still need to weigh it, its finally empty so I can get over there
I have filmed an released a 7 month update on my channel under LIVE VIDEOS

Still time to build it out! Pop that thing up for sale and start all over again 🤙 i sold my shitty cap to get the money to start buildin this thing
An thank you I saw it on another youtube video and did my botch job on it 😅
Is there a reason you didn't do a cab over style canopy? Do you think it wouldn't have been structurally stable?
Aerodynamics and i think i couod make it stable if it went over the cab also

That makes sense, the glue did dry really fast on me not diluted
How does it attach to your truck bed? Great build!
I have it bolted with the 2x4s on the bottom
Really cool idea!
Thank you! Cheers!
I actually wonder if you couldn't dye the glue a certain color
Or just use paint as the binder with no glue.
Did you use latex paint or enamel?
The glue does come yellow so it might be hard to do, that sounds like a lot more work to try to mix the glue then just paint afterwards I would think.

Any idea if pmf works on the smooth film of polyisocyanurate foamboard.... it's R value is 6.5/ in rather than 5/in pinkboard
Im not sure , sand it if its not a film over it

Im not sure what you mean by spray an scratch?
@@AdventureLiteCampers spray on starch. starch is used to after ironing clothes to make it stiff
Should use fiberglass resin on the outside and seen it mixed with bondo, looks very strong.
Maybe one day, the whole point of this build was to use pmf and save money
What did this project cost?
I was thinking of doing the same with a tiny house, I got the canvas long ago when it was cheaper and got the glue, all I need is the tiny house bones.
About $7-800 in materials. The foam was the most expensive then the rest adds up pretty quick too. The bones were the cheapest part 😄

How does it do with highway winds? No damage, drag or almost flying off?
A strong side wind maybe but i barely notice it on there
No drag is impossible. What a stupid question.

nice

From 28 mpg to 25 mpg, tested over long distance trips with and with out it
