Had a hard time finding this 2-disc set when it was first released. Once I got it, it was sooo awesome but then tragedy struck. My kid accidently dropped one of the discs on a hot slice of pizza. I made him buy me a new one. $65 on ebay at the time. Hey pal, I got my priorities!
This is RADICAL! Love the 80s feel and face-melting guitar. I came across a song the other day called 'Powerslide' by a new group called 'Auroras Ablaze' which made me think of Airport Swap. I just can't get enough of this retro music...!
All the guitar riffs are actually played with a keyboard synthesiser. Jan Hammer has the best pitch-bend technique for emulating guitar riffs out there! If you find his past albums he pointed out on the sleeve notes that; "No guitars were used in the making of this music".
Simon W. Atack When I saw the actual music video for the Miami Vice theme and saw him playing the guitar part on a keytar instead of an actual guitar I was totally floored. Jan is an absolute legend.
Amazing that Jan made such a great track full of sound with just a keyboard! I always thought these litle themes were a guitar with a wah, but nope, that's all Jan :D
@@cireravilob actually the rhythm guitar is him on an actual guitar. The lead distorted one is a Memorymoog played through, among other things, an MXR distortion pedal. He detailed everything he did on this recording on Keyboard magazine, ca. 1985. The snares are his own acoustic one sampled into his Fairlight CMI IIx.
I remember watching this episode "No Exit (a.k.a., Three-Eyed Turtle)" when it first aired a long time ago. Hammer is my favorite individual artist of all time hands down. Nobody else sounds like him. No television was ever as cool. It's like a religion to me. I'll love it more than any other until I die.
ACTS 2:38 & : FATHER HOLY JESUS LOVE & WILL BE DONE!! Repent, & be baptized every one of you in HIS name of Jesus Christ for remission of sins, & ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. FOR THERE IS NO OTHER NAME UNDER HEAVEN GIVEN AMONG MEN, WHEREBY WE MUST BE SAVED!
This is from "No Exit" with Bruce Willis. Fed Agent : Getting those stinger missiles are the number one thing " Our mission takes precedence!" Crockett : " What is your mission Mr. Phelps?"
If only Rockstar Games made a Vice City remake instead of a buggy mess of a remaster, they could have hired Jan Hammer to do some background music, for Vice City remake.
2 minutes of pure 80s goodness.
That synth intro kills me every time.
You can feel that guitar up to 0:11 through your bones. What an incredible song. Miami Vice is untouchable.
Believe it or not, it’s all synth
Love this. Been listening to this all day.
Combined with all the great Miami visuals, Jan Hammer IS the MAN! Awesome tune and still rocks almost 30 years later!
nothing sounds more like the 80s in a can than this.
Indeed. Probably the most satisfying 2 minutes of music ever recorded. Thanks, Marcus!

Why would he handle this precious disk set over hot pizza - and why would you need to re-buy it after?
THis brings me back to those wonderfull 80s with one of the best series ever made! Miami Vice!! Love that period!!!

@Simon W. Atack Yup. That's well known as the mighty 80's keytar. 👍
Awesome 🔥🔥🔥💫💫💫

1:01-1:07 - Thomas Newman's inspiration for Skyfall's "New Digs."
cudak888 good ear
the guitar solo is amazing at the beginning
Gunny Akdo That's actually all synth believe it or not. There aren't any guitars on this track.
@@cireravilob I'm not sure about the rhythm guitar though. You can hear the fingers slide across the strings.
starlodear even the “slides” are synths. Jan Hammer is the master at making synths sound like guitar.

The Bass sold the whole thing.
Miami Vice brought me here.
This is from "No Exit" with Bruce Willis.
Fed Agent : Getting those stinger missiles are the number one thing " Our mission takes precedence!"
Crockett : " What is your mission Mr. Phelps?"
Why isn't this music on the radio?
Also was used in No Exit, Season 1
When music just feels warm, goodluck trying to explain why
cette musique est de l'epoque ou ete tous simple sans internet et sans telephone mobile la simple vie quoi.
Cool.
Bruce Willis arms dealer episode...
😎
@viewingut
It's too epic

Pls I just want to find a continuous loop of the intro
Eddie Van Halen knocked him for not using a real guitar, but damn it sounds cool!
@ks105900 Best quote from that episode: Any knucklehead with a GED can light one up.
Wasn't the guitar riff in the beginning of this song used in several episodes?
@Jimd1701 and look for a red Maserati?
@southport97
