I once bought a Hermes "new with pricetag" at a Goodwill outlet. They charged $1.29 per pound so the tie ended up 12 cents!!! I sold it for $102.50.

I just picked up a bunch of ties. A few J. Garcia and Boss. Others are novelty ties like Disney, Tabasco, Star Wars and some others. The novelty ones might do well for the holidays. I have to agree they take up less space and easy to ship. Thanks for the info!

Thanks so much for this video! I went to a yard sale today at my son's school and found a table with many ties. Found a really nice Salvatore Ferragammo and paid .25 cents! Found a beautiful Burberry and paid .75 cents! Both look almost brand new too!

I found a great place to score good name ties! A local thrift store I just walked into and there were bags of designer ties for $5.50! Robert Talbot silks, IKE Bahar and others including a London tie.....I looked up sold listings and they are all over the board. My cost including tax for each tie was .67 so not even a buck each. All of them are silk. The patterns are amazing so I will be listing them by tomorrow. I just need to price them. Its a little tough because so many ties on there are cheap? So I will take your advice and list them higher.

Gucci ties are my best sellers. Back in 2005. I made thousands, by listing Jerry Garcia ties. No one shops for stuff like this anymore. Amazon scared all the shopper off.

Ha. That's funny. I just started selling ties and have some Ted Baker, Robert Talbott, and several others and have had them listed for several days. The first two that sold were Christian Dior. Lot of 2 free shipping for $17...Didn't make a killing, but only paid a couple bucks a piece. ......Other ties I have listed appear way better looking, but haven't sold yet.

    • @Up_All_Night

The fabric will be a dead giveaway, if it feels shitty, it's fake. Dumb labels are another one. Big ass "SILK 100%: on the keeper, or care tags on the blade end of the tie where no one puts them. Ties that should have self-keepers or self-tipping but don't. Shitty printing that's fuzzy instead of sharp.

Thanks so much! Just thrifted a bunch for about a buck each to try selling (still searching for my niche) all 100% silk- classic style, long, mid level brands (sell for $10-25 ea). I know better than to iron silk, but some have a few wrinkles where they were tied and tangled with the others in the GW. Otherwise, they are flawless- those wrinkles bug me though ;) Any suggestions would be kindly appreciated.

I'd iron it on a silk setting with a layer of cotton between the iron and the tie (use a cotton sheet)

Great video - great content - FYI the thing on the back of a tie that the narrow tail goes through to keep it in place is, in fact, called a "keep" or "keeper loop". Just another caveat - Hermes is a frequently knocked off brand, as are many high end brands. I know because I have gotten stung a couple times. Most of us would never try to intentionally sell something we knew to be fake, but many of us may unwittingly do so. Ebay has some good "how to tell" articles. Thanks again for your expertise!

Competition in retail comes from freedom. It makes capitalism good for society (efficiency and opportunity). For less price competition (not none) work into an area that requires years of training and a license (plumber, engineer, doctor, lawyer, electrician). Not retail.

      @henrybutchy3242 3 роки тому

@@Patriot11111 yes you were. Your complaint: more people selling (due to YTers) makes it harder for you. You are complaining about competition. My point: more competition is harder for you but better for our country. Being a patriot means supporting what's better for our country over yourself.

This YTer was saying that item wasn't selling well.
I was pointing out that people like him who instruct other people
to buy their inventory where they get their's & list it for sale right net to their listing
makes it harder to sell anything..
No where in history has a businessman helped his competition to such a degree that
      hurts theaters business.
Selling online is so easy that someone like you could do it.
Of coarse comp. is good for buyers.

@@Patriot11111 "so easy that someone like [me] could do it". That's funny. I chose a profession with high barriers to entry (7 years of post-secondary, and only 37% passed my first licensing exam). It's an easy life. I also got my index down to 10.4 (which also took decades of work). I'm also proud that I donated a kidney and bone marrow. Your ad hominem taunts confirm your ignorance, and are hilarious. But keep attacking like your self image depends on it; mine doesn't.

There are many "just as good" brands out there; City of London, Countess Mara, Andrew's, Daks, J Crew and the list goes on.
I think the presenter has too high taste in eccentric designer ties. ;-)
My first rule of thumb is to purchase based on budget. I have no issue purchasing a used tie if it really looks like new on the auction.
My second rule of thumb is to stay withing my preferred sizes - 58.5 to 63" length, and 3.7 to 4" on blade length.
Usually 99% of the time the manufacturer hasn't put enough interliner, so I flops all of the place and the knot looks weak; the tie looks WEAK.
I take the tie apart and either replace with a thicker interliner or add some thin liner. Sow it back up and it looks like a $200 tie.
Steaming and ironing optional but can be of great help.
I save some serious money this way.
Edit: If I see a tie that I can't get out of my mind but doesnt fit my siziing specs, then i'll stop torturing myself and simply sow an extension or cut it down to size and sow it back together. It's fabric... all is possible.
