Villa Palagonia (The Villa of Monsters), Bagheria, Italy in 4K (UHD) HDR

Fifteen kilometers from Palermo in the very center of the town #Bagheria is one of the most famous, visited and unusual sights of #Sicily - #Villa #Palagonia.
The construction of the villa began in 1715 by order of the Knight of the Golden Fleece, 5th Palagonian Prince Ferdinando Francesco I Gravina Cruyllas.
The villa was designed by the architect with the qualification "military engineer" Tommaso Maria Napoli.
Villa Palagonia acquired its unusual appearance already under the fifth prince's grandson, the seventh prince Francesco Ferdinando Gravina e Alliata, under whom construction was completed in 1749.
Various fantastic animals, anthropomorphic figures, freaks, dwarfs, musicians and other evil spirits filled the fence of the villa territory.
In total, there were about 600 figures in the villa, which stood on the fence, the main alley and in the park, but only 62 have survived to our time.
Over the years, the villa was visited by the writers Goethe and Dumas, the famous French engraver, artist and architect Jean-Pierre Houël.

Sad that the Villa is in such disrepair and the descendants that live on the property do not do more to repair and promote their history.
