    Me: *speaks french*
UA-cam recommandation: YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO THIS, REALLY.
also, as a native francophone, here is some tips too:
1- canadian french has a really HUGE box around their mouth. Basically if you apply her pronounciation tips, but just without the little box, that should do it.
2- her "R" is...actually quite bad. To pronounce it properly, try saying "air" with your throat. It should sounds almost arabic if you do it properly.
3- Don't listen to french music. "France" French has a lot of anglicism and "made-up" word. That will help you at the very beggining, but on the long run that'll just make you sound like a teenager.

Just to precise which in french the "S" When is the first letters in a word, so we pronounce like in English when you say "See". But, when we make the connection between two words that follow each other in a sentence, then the "S" is pronounced "Z". As you hear in the video for "Vous avez". If you listen well you hear : "VouZavé" Same thing when the "S" is placed between two vowels in a word. So, we pronounce it "Z", as in "maiSon" (maison = house in French) for example, we pronounce it "MaiZon".
And to finish, when there are two "S" following each other and they're placed between two vowel, as in the word: "Mission" for example, then we pronounce the "S", as we pronounce it in English with the word "Sea" or "HouSe".

for students learning french, if you're coming here, just a thing about
baguettes : they aren't the name for big sticks of bread, it's a
quantity of dough, so imagine you're in a bakery : if you want more
bread than in a baguette because you're really hungry, you will say "Je
voudrais une flûte (i would like a "flute")" for example, a "flute"
(400g) is more dough than a baguette (250g). and if you want less bread,
you will say "Je voudrais une ficelle (i would like a "string")" a
"string" (125g) is less dough than a baguette.

    Heyyyy
I have so many things to say about your video !
I like how you made the intro very inclusive not restricting the french accent to only the parisian one. All french accents are beautiful. I am very fond of the canadian french myself.
Then, it was so clear and concise and you reviewed all the most important steps :)
Finally, I am myself a teacher of english and usually struggle quite hard teaching english pronunciation (again, which one in the first place??) while a lot of my students ask me for tips. The harsh truth is that there is not much space in the french language teaching tradition for teaching pronunciation skills and we mostly tell our students to just listen to the radio or netflix and speak to themselves while thinking out loud. (I truly managed to improve my accent and my expression speaking only to myself for weeks ahah, and it payed of I ended up with an english MA and wonderful students to teach).
Thanks for the videos ! I'm open to any advice on how to teach english pronunciation efficiently. (I used a frequency based method lately, which can be of some help but had to build it all myself so it's savage didactics.)

to non-french learners: in fact there is the h that can be heard as in "hi" but shorter. in fact, really as she said in the video.
and there is a "h" that is written but muted.
when you ask "what time is it?"
you will ask "quelle heure est-il?"
and you'll pronounce as if it were "kel'eur ett'eel" (the ' indicate a small time between sounds, a bit shorter than a regular space between words)
    (i'm a native french also.)

Wherever we are from, we all have an accent. It is true when we speak our mother tongue and especially in a second language. When speaking a foreign language, pay attention in improving your language skills in that new language, over time, your accent will improve. But remember, you'll still have an accent and that's OK...as long as people understand you when you speak. Also to keep in mind, accents can be an advantage. I am québécois and worked six years in Paris. My Québec accent has always been an asset because the French people have a favorable prejudice vis-a-vis the québécois accent. It opened so many doors to me.

I'm french and i have one global idea to add, when we speak french we do liaisons naturally but sometimes we use some liaisons that are not needed or does not exist at all. most of the time you will meet liaisions between the subject and the verbs or after conjonction de coordination, conjonction de subordination etc.. but liaisons are really obvious because even if it sounds bizarre you will be understandable very easily by a random french

English is quite dynamic, you put a lot of stresses and the consonants are really explosive, in French we tend to not have as much emphasis on consonants and as much stresses. If you want to sound French you'd have to get the words to sound much more even. If you can do the sounds perfectly but still have very explosive consonants you will sound strange and maybe a bit aggressive 😂

"Merci beaucoup, cette (feminine gender for video) vidéo fut vraiment utile pour moi" -> "fut" is more correct in a narrative or literary way. In everyday langage, you can use "passé composé" : "Merci beaucoup, cette vidéo m'a été très utile" with the "pronom réfléchi" : m' instead of "à moi". "Cette vidéo a été très utile à moi" which is not correct. So, you have to write : "cette vidéo m'a été très utile". Horribly complex langage isn't it ? ;)

Just stick to a classic accent, no one is gonna see the difference unless they are native and you are a very good speaker. And in French theaters people have a really singing and expressive accent. But since your comment is 7 months old you probably already played Yvette 😂

I’ve been learning French for five years, and I’ve always had trouble with the “r” sound. But hearing you say “heure” actually helped me a lot for some reason. 😅 Also hearing where the sound should be coming from was very helpful. I think I was trying to produce the sound more from the roof of my mouth than the back, so I’ll get to fixing that now 👍🏻

There is another thing reeeally important to do : in english, when you have a vowel, you have différents sound inside : for exemple "I" is said "A-E". Well, english have différent sounds for one vowel.
In french, we ALL THE TIME have only ONE sound : "merci" is said "merci", with very short vowel and not "mear-ciee" (like an english people would do).
Make short vowel with only one sound, and you'll sound frency.

The best tips i can give ya is to take your time to read and trying to understand words with a google translate.. The more you read the more you will be familiar with some reccurant keys and you can go on your own. As long as you got a good understanding of words you can dig into the very basic stuffs to speak hopefully with a native french speaker to polish and imitate the other accent. All of those tips i took to myself as yound kid to be now bilingual. In one year you can speak fluidly some basic stuffs and maybe 2-3 years you can dig into the complexity of intellectual mind.

At 1:46 in some regions we also make the difference between "é", "è", "e" and most important "ai" which sounds kinda like "è" but is really different.
In other regions, they just don't care and always say "é" no matter it is supposed to be pronounced.
I'd add that as a French I feel the speaker's accent, it's very very light but in some words you know she's not french native.

Then you should search for « ch’ti» but you got to know that this accent (which can actually even be considered as a dialect for some) is pretty much hated by a lot of French people. It sounds rough and... uncivilized 😬 North if France was historically an industrial area with a lot of coal mines ant the ch’ti accent is non other than the working class accent. I’d say that the English equivalent is more or less the cockney accent :/
