How can anyone genuinely dislike Mahomes?
They don't. So they hate on his family. Only ones who currently have a legitimate issue with Mahomes are Pats fans. And Whiners fans which is kind of crazy the more they try and diminish Mahomes, they are actually diminishing their own team... But at the end of the day all they do is cry in San Fran. From the coaching staff down to the fans.
I dislike his dad (driving drunk is a bad look) I dislike his wife, I dislike his brother. I think Pat should disown his family.

I don't know if it's because he was on the phone but it's the first time I've ever heard that southern twang from Mahomes. Hearing what Mahomes said about that 4th &1 reminds me of MJ, Kobe, and Brady. The great ones don't focus on the consequences of failure because they can live with the failure. They're not afraid to fail. They're thinking about what they need to get done in that moment and relying on all the work they put in. They know no one on that field or court has prepared better or more than they have for that moment. They know their best is better than your best and if they come up short they can live with it because they left no stone unturned in preparing for that moment and their pursuit of greatness. As MJ said, i succeed because I've failed over and over again. Truly inspiring.

mahomes ability to process info rapid quick and also compartmentalize stress/emotions are what make him clutch and the best ever. There are other QBs with similar talent level, but they don’t have these other intellectual attributes

One can only like Mahomes - so down to earth / what player and decent person. Huge respect for him (and coach Reid). Humility and hard work couple with talent is a pretty good path to follow. Won't always work out but so be it - when it does it's earned.
The Kansas City Chiefs have so many underrated players on their defense. It's definitely about the chemistry and the hard work they put into being prepared.

I can’t get over how smart the Chiefs play now. He could’ve thrown it to Rice on that 4th down - he was wide open. But that opens up the chance for a drop. Why take that risk? Heck, why take ANY risks when we got this defense?
The throw to Hardman while Kelce was wide open goes against this, but it worked out 🤷🏻♂️

Peter is the worst. He knows nothing about football. Watched zero film even though he’s a “football analyst”. and he’s a terrible interviewer and that’s only been made worse since he’s been out-of-touch for 20 years
The McDuffie pressure & the Chris Jones pressure were BOTH because of the Brilliance of Spags play calling & his ability to coach His crew.
Great interview with Mahomes . So many times analyst and commentators. Pick him apart over technique . So many have constantly over looked his sheer Will to be the Best He can be. His motivation, his work ethic/drive. This is what can separate really good QB from the Greats and even the Greats from the Greatest of all time .
This kids has had a vision of his future and has set out to achieve it . He sees everything only as an obstacle to get through in that process.
I along with king was impressed with his mind set on that 4&1 play. And the fact that MVS suggested a play , that really didn’t include him being #1 receiver in the play , but used as a decoy , shows the Amazing TEAM mentality the whole team had.
And Mahomes saying they drive to get the offense on track because he didn’t want to see this Super Bowl caliber defense that was carrying them all season go with out . That is no player is bigger then the team mentality, that is what makes champion teams .
If they can keep the core coaching staff and Mahomes they can continue to dominate in the next ten yrs . Looks like that will be the case. He has definitely made his mark on the NFL , and I’m enjoying watching it with my son. He is learning football during the Patrick Mahomes era.

The hard thing about Shanahan's decision is... If that was his logic... then he absolutely has to go for it on 4th down deep in KC's territory.
I'm convinced Shanahan thought if they scored a TD the game was over.
That question and answer about the 4th & 1 was very interesting. And MVS came up with the play! That's incredibly selfless.
Patrick is a FI/LO guy. First In/Last Out. He's the hardest working guy in the world. Although he is the best football player in history, he is the most humble, down to earth guy in the world.

While Patrick and the Chiefs achieve the three-peat hopefully, there is a great insight into how he thinks and acts. He has a continuous drive to win and be the best while doing it. The three-peat or whatever he and his team achieves is just incidental.

Your overtime decisions has to factor in Mahomes
I think it did. I think Shanahan thought Mahomes would get 7 no matter what and he could get another 3 in his sleep. He only needs 13 seconds for that.... so he wanted to go first and have the chance to end the game on his last possession. It's funny people are saying don't you know that's Mahomes on the other side and the pretending like he's only gonna be held to 3 points just because he's got "3 downs" only.
You dictate it by knowing if and when to go for fourth downs if you have the second possession. That's it, that's the advantage. And you can just win it by going for 2 if they scored a touchdown (and you have to). That's the advantage, Kyle didnt think, as usual.
I don't even get why they think it would ever go to a 3rd possession. They don't know how to win.
You give up ALL control when you take the ball first. It's absolutely ludicrous to give any advantage away. Look at the stats in college OT which guarantees possession to each team. Statistically, NOBODY takes the ball first when given the choice. I believe it's less than 1%.
If you think "college OT" has any bearing on the league analytics, you are sorely mistaken. Totally different rules, on complete opposite ends of the field.
@@mvpfocus they are similar in one thing, both teams are guaranteed a posesión. Over 99% of the time the winner of the coin goes on D. So, to sum it up, NOBODY takes the ball when it is a clear advantage not to.

More importantly, the team that gets the ball 3rd in college doesn't win with any score. Each team continues to receive an opportunity to match. So, all the more reason to go second, *in college.*
The two have no similarities, whatsoever. So, trying to use college overtime to bolster an entirely different pro strategy is utter nonsense.

So, any idiot understands that the systems aren't exactly the same, but the advantage of forcing your opponent to go first is IDENTICAL. One team has to expose their entire first shot before the other has to do anything offensively. If the first team don't score, the second team can settle for a field goal which is easier than getting a TD. If the other team got a field goal the team on D knows a TD wins it. If the first team got a touchdown, the other knows if they match that TD they could go for two. It would be extremely rare that the first team going would go for two, thus, leaving the second team yet another advantage, winning by going for two.

Obviously, the pro strategy evolves depending on how much each team scores on each drive, which would always matter in either position. Ultimately, the winning team needs to score _and_ stop the other team, no matter which order they do it. Going first and third gives you 2 chances to score to win, _if_ you can stop the other team. Whereas, the team that goes second may not get the ball again, even if they score.
There are advantages and disadvantages to either position. But a 2-pt conversion has only a 47.5% success rate. So, the team defending that has the advantage, if the game comes down to that one play.
Once again, none of this analysis of the pro game has anything whatsoever to do with college OT. But nice try.

Don't you think some of those nine unblocked pressures are scheme and Shanahan's fault
McDuffie - George Kittle in the backfield to block who lacks the experience/skill that Christian McCaffrey has in pass protection.
Jones - 3rd down call that required the center to pull on an obvious Steve Spagnuolo blitzing play.
Shanahan made a few questionable play calls/designs that did not help pass protection.
Purdy is also partially at fault. QBs have some responsibility to fix coverage issues at the line if they can sniff out a blitz
@@tomyoung249 There is some disagreement on this, but under the Shanahan system primary responsibility for protection calls falls on the center, not the QB.
I am not positive on this, but some ex-NFL lineman reviewing the game, plus a number of other ex-player are saying this.
I’m worried about mahomes and KC after Reid retires. It seems like him more then anything is keeping everything together. Hopefully that won’t be for awhile tho

I think you should make the decision based on if you're playing Patrick Mahomes or not. You know there are two guaranteed possessions. You don't know that there will be a third possession.

Chiefs have been in 4 of last 5 SB and 6 straight Chmpsp games. If the short offseason was a problem it wouldve been by now.
A lot of people have discussed how important the loss of Dre Greenlaw was to allowing the Chiefs' offense to kick into gear, and rightly so-he's one of the best linebackers in the league. Not enough, though, has been made of the loss of John Feliciano for an already subpar offensive line (and the right side of that line in particular). In addition to all those unblocked pressures, Kittle and Juszczyk had to spend more snaps blocking than they probably would otherwise, leaving more targets for the receivers that the Chiefs' defensive backs were in the pocket of all night-with either of them running more routes, the Chiefs have to alter their defensive scheme to cover another X-factor receiving threat.
Here’s a thought. The Chiefs lost their All Pro Guard but had Allegreti. They also had LB depth with Chenal ant Tranquille. The experts said the 49ers had the better roster. That may be true if you look at 1-22. But 23-53 the Chiefs had the better roster. Better than Miami, Buffalo, Baltimore and SF. KC was missing a starting DT, LG, and Safety. But they had depth.
Losing players certainly matters. Unfortunate part of the game. We'll never forget our ugly SB in TB. The literal only lineman left was not in his normal position. I knew it would be rough, but it was 10 times worse lol. Context matters.
Peter, the reason why Shanahan's decision was bad, is because there was NEVER GOING TO BE A 3RD POSSESSION. The Chiefs, like most teams would, were going for 2 if they got a TD. So a 3rd possession would never happen.
Wide Right the best team of this decade
If you take the ball first, which I think you should, you need to be more aggressive. SF erred by failing to treat 3rd and 4 like 2 down territory. Running the ball on third down would have been WAY better because you plan to go for it on 4th and short. The reason is simple,the team who gets the ball second gets 4 downs and will be very hesitant to take actions that result in a tie because they now lose to any score. Choosing to defend also means you defense gets NO rest and the opposing defense gets a rest. Add that to the fact that defenses in OT tend to get abused and it seems clear that deferring is a mistake
I agree. Going for two is only a 47.5% gambit. While, having the ball 1st and potentially 3rd allows you to extend the game, instead of having to win or lose the game all on one play.
This is crazy because since the rule changed not 1 game went into ot the Super Bowl was the first time it happened so it’s really no strategy especially if you have 2 great qb then you have to score 7 and just hope ya defense holds up

49ers would have 3 in a row in 1990 season, but Joe Montana got knocked out in NFC Championship game against the Giants and 9ers were winning the game. Then Giants went on to win Super Bowl

Chiefs fan here. Living the dream. Regarding Da Bears, I think if they don't take a franchise QB in this draft, their fans will go absolutely bonkers. You can't miss wide right on QB draft twice in 7 years.
I'm not sure the NFL knows how much trouble they're in for the next decade plus! The scariest part is he knows he's the best but isn't satisfied, and he isn't afraid to think about all of this almost like he's a fan of the team. He's Brady with talent.

Chiefs defense was gassed after the last few minutes of the game...maybe they were hoping to get the defense at its most exhausted.
Actually, the Chiefs had the ball last in regulation, save for a kneel-down. So, probably the other way around; the 49ers defense needed the rest.
@@mvpfocus and the 49ers defense did rest by the offense taking the field first in overtime, But In the 4th quarter , even the announcers was commenting on Jones and company gasping for breath and desperate for a rest.... Yes it didn't help them, but if they would have given the chiefs even more time to rest their defense, it would have been and even quicker death. They were hoping the ball fall in their favor for maybe one play...didn't happen though.

I know it's all about winning, sort of, but if he loses, he's still getting checks for $2 million a week. Lots of people have "4th and 1s" in their lives -- indeed soldiers, firemen and sometimes policement have their lfie on the line. And they don't make $2 million a week.

Kyle Shanahan gave Patrick Mahomes a chance to walk him off. There are not two sides to this. He threw his analytics guys under the bus the same way he did his DC. There's NO credible analytics that says to take the ball first. This is the established strategy in college, it's not like it's new.
College rules are totally different. So, that comparison is a misnomer. You get the ball at the complete opposite ends of the field. In college each team receives the ball on the 25 in goal to go territory. Totally different scenario, and without sudden death on the 3rd possession. So, totally different analytics. Going 1st and 3rd is totally different in the league, and has its advantages; where, it may not have as many advantages in college.
I find it interesting how just a few years ago no one was going to overtake TB, and yet... Here we are.
Mahomes has a LONG way to go to reach 7 Lombardis. I'm a lifelong KC fan and I seriously doubt he'll get past 5. Maybe even just 4. And I'm okay with that.
