The cathedral of Seville, Spain, is the world’s largest Gothic church -- unbelievably huge and amazingly beautiful. There are so many tall columns holding up the lofty ceiling 130 feet above the floor that it seems like you are strolling through a vast, indoor stone forest. This grand church is located of course in the center of the historic Old Town with several prominent landmarks next to it: the Archives building and the Archbishop's Palace. Situated on a broad plaza, it's also located right next to the Alcázar Palace.
The cathedral was built so large in order to demonstrate Seville's wealth, as it had become a major trading center in the Middle Ages after the Reconquista in 1248. They were also in competition with the Muslims who were still in control of Granada with their Alhambra Palace and Córdoba with the great Mosque. Seville's Cathedral was part of this political competition of status rivalry.

I can understand why you feel Sevilla is "favorite and most beautiful" in Spain, they have done a marvelous job making the best of their historic heritage, especially the pedestrian zone, Cathedral and Alcazar.

20 years ago when I last visited beautiful Seville it was mass tourist free. I fear this is probably no longer the case though maybe for a year of two post Covid it will be more like its old self :-) One of my top favourite cities.

All that stollen gold paid for this…….. it is impressive I’ve actually toured it, especially the humongous doors that were only opened for the King or Queen when they came to visit. To me looked to be 20 feet high. Only visible from the street outside. Inside many holy relics abound along with art work and of course the expansive church alters. The bell tower has a great view from above. It would be fabulous to hear the pipe organ there.

It's not even build by catholics it's the grand mosque of Sevilla that turned by force into a cathedral

@@amenboughanmi5819It is not the grand mosque, the grand mosque was destroyed in an earthquake. The cathedral was built on the site where the mosque used to be.

Is it possible to light 783,137 candles on one place? For every word in the Holy Bible🙌❤️maybe floating on the sea by one? Maybe a engineer for draining the melted wax as it wouldn’t spread if containee within a container or many containers together bringing us close to the number so envirnonmental organization would be a question to answer if you’re the person choosing where and which part should be located precisely

The plans comparing St Peters + Seville are wrongly-scaled; Seville is 452 ft long, i.e. the same length approx. as St Peters transept width; these plans do not reflect that - Seville should be bigger
