The yellow cube side dish, a bit cheezy taste, you had at the restraunt with soup is steamed egg...very soft and comfortable and a traditional side dish in Korea
i am glad you guys are trying some real korean food. i feel like youtube is capturing more modern korean food that has cheese on everything. side dishes are usually unlimited so if you run out of the ones you like feel free to ask for more. you should try korean chinese cuisine which are unique in itself. koreans loves noodles, fish, and stews. all the classic korean dishes are online.
I'm so glad the comment section is being to helpful for these two. It's pretty tough getting around another country when you don't know the language and local customs. By the way, always drink beer with chicken, soju with bbq, rice wine with jeon, and water to recover for the next meal haha
I thought so,I seen it in the movies, they put the whole grap of lettuce in the mouth in one bite. Well I'm sure they a learning, how awesome to visit South Korea, I love Asian food. Thank you for sharing this videos,I love the girl laugh 😊.
You guys are awesome for going out into the "real" Korea. Your meal looks delicious. If I remember from a Korean friend, there is a proper way to position your rice and soup. I'm not sure if it's true for all Koreans or if it was just his family thing but the bowl of rice must stay in front of you and the bowl of soup must stay on the right side of the rice. I doubt any Koreans would give you a hard time but just departing some knowledge I learned.
You are right that there has to be a proper position of dishes. Rice has to be left and soup has to be right. We every Koreans know well about that. And this is TMI and old story though, when I was a middle school girl, I had to memorize how many Banchan and what kinds of Banchan has to be one table at school. Because it belongs to the Joseon Dynasty tradition. According to person and situation, we had to put the number of Banchan on a table following order. 😅 I don"t remember it well because it was more 30 yrs. 😊😅😅
@@t.d2544 Very correct. I just got back from Seoul and Busan and everything I learned went out the window. I was so busy eating all the great food, I didn't care.
Hello! Your channel was recommended and so far I like how you guys explore and experience Korea. Side dish is complimantry in Korea, so she said she will provide more if you need them. Soft White square side dish is not tofu, it's custard egg. Round white side dish is pickled sliced radish.(some people wrap meat with it) The game with white and black pieces is called "ba-deuk” Omg inside of the rolled bacon cabbage place looks so cute!❤ Love Korea! People respect each other.
@@최영진-j9f🤣Understood, but why do almost all vegetables in South Korea import from China? 🤭Oh, by the way, China has the largest variety of fruits and vegetables in the world, so it’s hard to imagine what it’s like to have to eat kimchi three meals a day
You guys are so sweet🥹🥹 and i really love the way you trying to respect and appreciate other cultures! Very positive and cheerful!! you got me im your subscriber from now on😁😁 hope you enjoyed a lot in Korea!

You choose the right place and the right menu. Gwangiu In Joellado is one of the best cities where has very delicious foods. Many people go to Busan and say "there are many delicious foods." But if people want to eat real delicious food and real korean foods, people must go to cities in Joellado. REALLY DELICIOUS! ^^
😋 We always like to do our research where to go in terms of local atmosphere, best food, and iconic things to do! Glad we didn't miss it in South Korea 🇰🇷
3:18 The lady asked if you guys wanted a tong (jjip-geh) or a fork (pok-u). FYI, in Korean and Japanese, the /f/ and /r/ phonemes don't exist. Closest sound for f -> p or h, and r -> (elided) or a tap sound like the "tt" in American English "butter". You two are adorable and courageous venturing in a totally foreign country!
hello. Welcome to our hometown, Gwangju. Most restaurants in Gwangju serve a lot of side dishes. In Korea, Gwangju and Jeonju are combined and called Jeolla-do. Jeolla-do is famous for its delicious food and many side dishes. And in Korea, most restaurants provide free refills on side dishes. At the Tteokgalbi restaurant, the lady said that if there weren't enough side dishes, she would bring more. Normally, if you don't have enough side dishes, you bring your own, but since you are foreigners, I think the lady was considerate. And in Korea, when eating ssam, the ssam is wrapped so that it can be eaten in one mouth. The way you wrap the ssam and the way you eat it is up to you. However, there are some things that Korean people always feel sad about. Most foreigners share ssam. There's even a meme about this where Koreans get frustrated when they see foreigners. Ha ha ha ha ha. Gwangju is a place with a history of the May 18 Democratic Uprising. The records of the democratic uprising are registered as World Heritage Records. The street where the event you went to was held is the street where Gwangju citizens fought against the dictatorship to protect Gwangju a long time ago. Now that you’ve been to Yangdong Chicken, I’d like to introduce you to another famous food. One of Jeonju’s specialties is ‘Choco Pie’. You must visit ‘Gungjeon Confectionery’ next time in Gwangju. Be sure to try ‘Butterfly Pie’ and ‘Dinosaur Egg’! Even 40 years later, it is still a food I remember eating when I go to my hometown. This is bread that Koreans always buy and eat when they go to Gwangju. One more famous thing, ‘Lettuce fries’ It is not a food made with fried lettuce, but a fried wrap made by wrapping lettuce with onions or peppers in flavored soy sauce. Can't you imagine? Try it!! Hahaha And Chamisul and other local sojus can be found in Gwangju or Jeolla-do. This is ‘Ipsaeju’. This soju is made using only natural rock water and naturally extracted sweeteners and is free of sugar, sodium, and MSG. This is a good soju with a smooth and slightly bitter taste. And about an hour away from Gwangju, there is a small city called Damyang. If you get a chance, I think it would be a good idea to go there next time. It is a place full of artistic things such as bamboo fields, bamboo rice balls, and slow cities. It is definitely a place where you can feel rest. Damyang Tteokgalbi is more famous than Songjeong’s Tteokgalbi. And there is an old Korean market called Changpyeong Market. Changpyeong Market Gukbap there is also a very, very old restaurant. Gukbap is a food that is difficult for foreigners to encounter. My nephews, who were born in Texas, always go here when they come to Korea. If you get the chance, I hope you experience all of these things! I happened to come across your video randomly on UA-cam, and I would like to thank you all for taking a real trip to Korea and hope you have a better trip. I'm not good at English, but I'm writing this with the help of Google Translate!! I hope you have a great trip in the future!!
I am very happy to see you helping a grandmother carry her things on the stairs. I think maybe you can occasionally create content to help people around you, such as distributing food to the homeless, while you still carry out your usual content, traveling and reviewing food. The content of sharing happiness with people in need always has a place in the hearts of people all over the world 😊
The most important etiquette is eating wrap in one bite 😂 I can guarantee every Korean would be like “put your ssam (wrap) in one bit.” It’s mesmerizing to see you enjoy different cultures with such curiosity. You are the best!
Wahhh looks so yummy 🤤🤤🤤🤤. That’s the Korean chives, it looks very similar to spring onions. We use it a lot in our Malaysian cooking. Infact I used it today for my Stir Fry Vermicelli 😍
This is the first time since I was born that I heard about vegetables like Korean leeks. It’s really amazing. Then I checked the data and 70% of vegetables in South Korea are imported from China🤣
@@哈哈哈-d8b it’s Korean chives. It’s yummy and crunch though. I’m not sure on the actual name but here in Canada from the Korean stores written Korean chives. In Malaysia we call it Kucai 😍😍
@@bindiyachalfamily8183What a good joke. Any kind of leeks or fruits and vegetables can be found in China. This is the first time I have heard of such a thing as Korean leeks.😂
@@bindiyachalfamily8183So you need to read more or Google, because China is the only country in the world that has all the landforms on the earth. China is the largest producer of vegetables and fruits in the world, and it is also the country with the most types of vegetables and fruits. When I heard about the legendary Korean leeks , I feel very funny
And the fruit stick you see is a very recent trend. It's a Chinese street food popularized in Korea in the past year or so. The shop's often run by Chinese livihg in Korea, and it's super unhealthy. 😂
Then why are Chinese candied haws and spicy hotpots promoted on the program every day? By the way, Korean traditional food "dung wine" is the healthiest
It is also known that Korean restaurants often recycle and reuse leftover kimchi. This is a tradition. Koreans who love kimchi claim that Korean food is healthy. This is the biggest joke I have ever heard.
For the colonies, the military pot made from the stinky water and various garbage left by the American military fathers is the healthiest. It is worthy of the love from the father.
Thank you for visiting my hometown, your video brings me homsickness as a Korean staying in Africa. BTW, the SSAM always goes into your mouth all at once, not biting🤣
True! We were truly happy with this entire day spent in Gwangju because we didn't expect people to be so welcoming!!! It changes the way how you feel while vlogging 100% 🥰
that leafy wrap you ate is supposed to come with something called samjang. it's really good and i don't know why they served you that without it. i also think the wings places you went to wasn't real korean fried chicken either. you should maybe try some google searches there for good places because the food i saw in this vid was not it.
look at the wall, it writen that you have to bring free additional side dishes yourself, but the staff said they would bring it to you if it wasn't enough
You guys are so funny. It's like watching ethnographers study a new culture which I'm familiar with. If you like art, Gwangju is your city during the biennale. It's not to be missed!
Right! It must be so interesting because it basically shows how we come across simple things in Korea that for you are normal, but for us are completely new! We were actually taking about it that it would be nice to be back for biennale next time when in Gwangju 🤩
I can feel that you are truly enjoying Korea. I really enjoy seeing things like that. And I was very impressed by your kindness. Koreans truly take food very seriously. So, there are hundreds of foods. Even if you live in Korea your whole life, you won't be able to try all the foods. And there is a reason why Korean people like spicy food. When you eat spicy food, your body perceives it as pain. Then, the body releases a hormone called “endorphin”. Endorphins are hormones that make people feel better. This is a scientifically proven fact. It's painful when you eat spicy food, but you feel better after eating it. I look forward to future videos as well. ^^
@@哈哈哈-d8bNo, some internet celebrities in China have calculated that it takes about 8 hours to travel around South Korea. South Korea is still very big.

It was pretty tasty! And we totally agree - it was way different from the ones in Seoul 🙌
My hometown Kwangju !!! jellado (province) is famous for food !!!! Enjoy !
i am glad you guys are trying some real korean food. i feel like youtube is capturing more modern korean food that has cheese on everything. side dishes are usually unlimited so if you run out of the ones you like feel free to ask for more. you should try korean chinese cuisine which are unique in itself. koreans loves noodles, fish, and stews. all the classic korean dishes are online.

The food tour we did will stay in our memories forever 😍👌
I'm so glad the comment section is being to helpful for these two. It's pretty tough getting around another country when you don't know the language and local customs. By the way, always drink beer with chicken, soju with bbq, rice wine with jeon, and water to recover for the next meal haha
It is very interesting to know how foreigners feel about my familiar culture. I wish you a healthy and enjoyable trip.
We find it very interesting too! Because when we film people get extremely surprised with little things we aren’t aware of 😉 It opens up perspectives!

It was a real Korean food paradise in Gwangju!
Lettuce wraps should be wrapped in bite-sized pieces and eaten in one bite.
If the lettuce is big, you can cut it into bite-sized pieces and use it~

You guys are awesome for going out into the "real" Korea. Your meal looks delicious. If I remember from a Korean friend, there is a proper way to position your rice and soup. I'm not sure if it's true for all Koreans or if it was just his family thing but the bowl of rice must stay in front of you and the bowl of soup must stay on the right side of the rice. I doubt any Koreans would give you a hard time but just departing some knowledge I learned.
Yes, all the things you've just mentioned are correct! We're still learning though haha since everything is new to us 😬 Thanks for watching!

Hello! Your channel was recommended and so far I like how you guys explore and experience Korea.
Side dish is complimantry in Korea, so she said she will provide more if you need them.
Soft White square side dish is not tofu, it's custard egg.
Round white side dish is pickled sliced radish.(some people wrap meat with it)
The game with white and black pieces is called "ba-deuk”
Omg inside of the rolled bacon cabbage place looks so cute!❤

One more famous thing,
‘Lettuce fries’
It is not a food made with fried lettuce, but a fried wrap made by wrapping lettuce with onions or peppers in flavored soy sauce.
Can't you imagine? Try it!! Hahaha
And Chamisul and other local sojus can be found in Gwangju or Jeolla-do.
I hope you make many good memories in Korea...😊
I am very happy to see you helping a grandmother carry her things on the stairs. I think maybe you can occasionally create content to help people around you, such as distributing food to the homeless, while you still carry out your usual content, traveling and reviewing food. The content of sharing happiness with people in need always has a place in the hearts of people all over the world 😊
I want that fried chicken now!! That looked amazing!!!
O my the food over there looks absolutely stunning 😮❤🎉
The most important etiquette is eating wrap in one bite 😂
I can guarantee every Korean would be like “put your ssam (wrap) in one bit.”
It’s mesmerizing to see you enjoy different cultures with such curiosity. You are the best!
I am the one who got annoyed by it
Wahhh looks so yummy 🤤🤤🤤🤤. That’s the Korean chives, it looks very similar to spring onions. We use it a lot in our Malaysian cooking. Infact I used it today for my Stir Fry Vermicelli 😍
Wow, what are Korean leeks? 🤭
I recommend you eat chicken with draft beer. It's called 'ChiMac' and is the most popular way to eat chicken in Korea.
Glad you two are enjoying the Amazing Korean food. But when you're eating the lettuce wrap, you have to eat it in one whole bite. =]
It is worthy of the love from the father.

that leafy wrap you ate is supposed to come with something called samjang. it's really good and i don't know why they served you that without it. i also think the wings places you went to wasn't real korean fried chicken either. you should maybe try some google searches there for good places because the food i saw in this vid was not it.
Regarding the side dishes, she said tell me if u want more, I'll bring u.
In korea, side dishes r free.
look at the wall, it writen that you have to bring free additional side dishes yourself, but the staff said they would bring it to you if it wasn't enough
