Just purchased the black one last Friday on the release date in Japan. I have a green Willard so I picked the black. This is my second Seiko. I usually only purchased Luxury watches until now. I am amazed by the quality of the GMT. It feels great to wear and I love the dial with all information and the date at 4h30. The bracelet is really good and I picked this watch as it has a ceramic bezel. The GMT is interesting but a bit hard to read. I ordered mine same day they came pre-ordering. I bought MM300 on black in january, but still I ordered this also black. It's just classic. I absolutely love green dials, I have green sumo but I also choose black anyway, it's just calling me every morning
Very good video as always. I purchased the 383. That black dial is a thing of beauty. To me, one of the best looking Seiko divers one can buy. My favorite case is the MM style, followed by the 62Mas. I agree with all your points, and as a personal owner, I have 3 concerns that could've made this watch great, but also understandably would've probably pushed it above the $1500 price tag. 1. The dial and crown. The dial could lose a line or two of text and the crown for $1500 needs to be signed. Come on Seiko, Zelos does lumed crowns on watches for $500.00. A good move would be to take the X from the dial and use that on the crown. That way we have less dial text (Also remove the 3 days, definitely not needed), we have a signed crown. The X will still identify the Prospex line, and it is a good differentiator from other models. 2. The bracelet. At this point, I don't even get my hopes up for a good Seiko bracelet, even at over 1K. With folks like Monta, about the same price point as this line watch, they are giving great bracelet's. I don't know why Seiko continues to provide sub-par offerings? Again, even Zelos at sub $500 is offering superior bracelets and clasps. When I purchase a Seiko or Grand Seiko watch, I automatically also purchase an aftermarket strap or bracelet. I include it in the watch budget. It's like muscle memory, I do it out of habit. 3. The movement. Like their bracelets, Seiko doesn't seem to bother to dial in the movement. Unless it is GS, I don't even expect nowhere close to COSC specs. Luckily I don't buy my mechanicals for accuracy. I'm still a Seikopath and luckily their designs are still beautiful and the fit is on point. If either of those slips, Seiko may have lost a loyal buyer.
Wow ur suggestions are so thoughtful and would definitely improve the dial exponentially.. Which after market bracelet you bought for this watch?? Can u share the link
Really like these new cases. Beautiful dials. Will go very nicely with my SBDX017. I like the thinner case on these to be a little different. Beautiful finishing. I just hope the movement is reasonably reliable/accurate because none of us care for a 3 day power reserve if it can’t keep time.

It gives you a good idea of how good the movement of ONE watch is. Seiko makes tons of these watches, and the 6r35 was very hit or miss. A sample size of one is nothing to go on.
@@justmeeagainn The initial reports which I have received from sellers in Japan is that the 6R54 movements have much better quality control than the other 6R movements like the 6R35 and the 6R15.

green one was doing similar. Did not have time to check the black. First time checking the 6R54. But the 6R35's were very inconsistent and not very good. These could be the same but only time will tell.
I love the MM200 case and ceramic bezel insert font. I would have preferred an LX bezel but this diamond shape is a close second, better than the boring coin edge or SKX styles. I do not like the 4:30 date window breaking the symmetry and I agree there is too much text on the dial. But most importantly, I think this is priced too high and I'm disappointed that Seiko is following the same trend as other watch manufacturers over the past couple years. This watch should be in the 1000-1200 range IMO. The SRPK released this month being 20% more expensive at MSRP than the SRPD for less watch is another example.
The date at 4:30 is the only reason I don't want these watches. But they look so good and they're headed in the right direction. Have to be very picky about watches that you know you're going to keep.

seiko needs to SSSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTTTTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP with these date window positions
People complain when it’s at 3 too coz the Lume was compromised
Thanks for the review. Love Seiko divers.
You and me both!
I have a seiko 5 gmt watch and I don't understand why seiko don't sign the crown on the watch
so they basically created a budget platona and a sub hulk
Thank you for the excellent review. About 3 minutes in, you're wearing a black Tropic. Could you please tell us the brand and what your favorite tropic straps are? Thank you.
This one is from Nivada Grenchen tropic strap. I think once or twice a week people ask about this strap. I use it in all my videos where I can't size the bracelet. It is fkm rubber and once you get used to it is very comfy. It has quick release spring bars as well.
@@EscapementWatch Awesome. I love Tropic straps and am always on the hunt for a good one. Thank you.
I really like these.👍
Great video. I was wondering if the new bezel can be swapped with that of the mm200 steel master. After seeing this video I got the idea to update my steel master and thus avoid the temptation to get any of the new ones.
Probably not. The dimensions are different I think because of that high polish lip surrounding the sapphire but that's just a guess.
@@EscapementWatch Yeah, that’s a pretty good guess. Cheers
Can the hand set on these new GMT 6Rs be swapped with other 6R hand sets?
Selling price in US$1200 for 200m diver watches Seiko Prospex green/black dial, I'm acceptable since have Presage GMT black dial & ceramic blue dial Sumo both are great, I hoped that the authorised dealer will have special discount for Both 😅
shouldn't be an issue. You can probably get 10-25% off
Why no more of your normal intro??! I liked those. Especially the voice skits with the wife lol
hahah thanks! There was one actually for the the 38mm seiko but the sound got messed up so it was scrapped. But just had our second kid and the wife's extra busy. The intros will come back eventually
@@EscapementWatch Congrats! was in same shoes with 2nd one almost 2 years ago.
Thanks bro! I do miss sleeping but its worth it.
This with 38-40mm diameter, 44-46mm lug to lug, 12mm thickness at max and a centered crown....
I wish they would make a lower cost travelling GMT. question anyone know the lowest cost travelling GMT with screw down crown made by Seiko?
You’re asking for a lot for lower cost. Check out the Seiko 5 GMT or the Prospex Solar Quarts GMT
How difference between SBEJ009 (Made in Japan) and SPB381 (Sold in WW), Quality and manufacture location?
Thanks!
I asked a retailer in Japan, and he said they are the same thing, and both are made in Japan. But please keep doing your research, because I want to have more sources.
Bought the black
Took me a month to order, green is out of stock, I’m based in japan
Those are some beautiful watches, wow! is the Crown a Screw down Crown?
Yes it is
Thx for the great review. May I ask? Did you examine the accuracy of all three watches in order to get an idea of the distribution of the performance of the movements ?
I only tested the green and did not have time for the black. The green performed as well as the limited.
Does it have ceramic insert?
Fairly certain that yes, they have upgraded to ceramic from the previous MM200s that had the coated steel bezels.
@@gamesetmatt23 Good to hear that. I was looking for a diver from seiko and I was surprised that only two or three have ceramic inserts in the bezel, which is weak at such prices. Seiko makes up for it in appearance, I have to admit it.
yes ceramic, confirmed by seiko
Date needs to be at 3. I don’t dive so don’t need the watch ISO rated.
Pretty much nailed it but why stop at signing the crown? The details matter.
Is this case the same as SLA055/057/077/079 in terms of dimensions? Can i use bracelet from SLA on this SPB381/383/385???
It may fit I have never tried it but to answer your question the case is not the same. Lug to lug is different by 0.7mm according to seiko not my measurements.
Thank you a lot. Waiting for your review in SLA079! @@EscapementWatch
Never really digging the 4:30 date window in all seiko. I can live with their 430 crown but not the date window.
I was waiting to hear the green bezel but we got the blue one instead. *sigh*
Looks fabulous. Tragic they are de-luming divers...(why??) -3 sec sounds great. Is this movement usually good? Did you check all 3?
green one was doing similar. Did not have time to check the black. First time checking the 6R54. But the 6R35's were very inconsistent and not very good. These could be the same but only time will tell.
What's the diver that you have on your wrist at the end with the black band? It's beautiful.
The watch in the video, SPB385 Limited Edition.
@@EscapementWatch beautiful!
Bezel action on the Hulk seems loose and very easy to turn??
My only gripe is that I wish it were a “true” GMT (travelers GMT). I would pretty much throw my wallet at Seiko if that were the case.
Kind if dickish to call another bezel style "boring".
Liked for 300 and thanks for this nice Video.
The date at 4:30 is the only reason I don't want these watches. But they look so good and they're headed in the right direction. Have to be very picky about watches that you know you're going to keep.
So the bezel is ceramic and not steel coated?
correct
@@EscapementWatch Wow, I had to make sure I heard correct. I wish the 62mas models had ceramic.
