  • I have just set up a Patreon for the educational side of my content.
    / oldforgecreations
You can read more about the thought process behind it on my most recent blog post (link below), but essentially it’s starting out as somewhere I can gather all the different strands of educational content into a single place. Anyone who wants to support the creation of more content of that type can subscribe to the Patreon and pay a small amount of money to be notified directly when the content goes live.
I will still be putting the same content out for free, if you can’t subscribe to the Patreon then all you’ll be missing is having it in a single location. I really appreciate any support for it but I fully understand that not many people have room in their budgets at the moment. This is purely an opt-in for people who want to and can comfortably afford it. Please don’t feel any sense of obligation, and feel free to carry on enjoying the content as usual.
One way to support my educational content for free would be to send the link to someone else who might be interested. I put info out there to be useful, so I want as many people as possible to see it!

Gosh I learnt so much about how each of the social media types work etc, algorithms, getting viewers etc through this pottery video and how much effort people put into the content I watch. Really appreciate that you have ‘educated’ a 70 year old hobby potter who like yourself learnt to pot through watching You Tube. Bless you!

I hope that this works super well for you. You are definitely one of my favorite potters and one of my favorite UA-cam channels. I never had a problem with audio wheel versus voice before and this set up is fine.
Caring for little ones is such an important task, so I applaud you for choosing your little guy's needs.
I'm off to look at my budget because you are exactly the kind of person and content that deserves to be supported.

Thanks! If it's not in your budget that's no problem whatsoever, I'm more than happy to keep producing content for free. I know you've supported they channel through commenting and engaging more than just about anyone else out there, and I appreciate that just as much as any financial support!
The main thing for me is knowing that people appreciate it and find it useful, that more than enough reward for the effort.

There is a 'super thanks ' button on UA-cam that you can have on your channel- have a look at it via the UA-cam organisation videos. I've just put on my channel- still very early days. The video content takes ages to do - filming and preparation for the filming (having pieces ready etc), then editing, then uploading onto UA-cam etc etc. The revenue from UA-cam ads is OK but not enough to make it viable for the time taken to make the content. You really have to love doing it. Good luck with the Patreon - be great if you could feedback in 3 months or so. Thanks for your time

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into the extra monetisation on here as well. I'll definitely do a follow up about the Patreon account in a few months

I’ve never had a problem hearing you over your wheel. I can hear you really well in this video though.

Well. it's sad that you chose patreon (those who canceled and stalled much needed help for Ukraine in early war days) above all the other that kind of platforms. Hope it works well to you. If you decide to make different donation/support channel, let me know. I would gladly support you, since I follow and learn so much from you.

I'm sorry to hear that's a dealbreaker for you. I picked Patreon because I was familiar with it and wanted anyone who signed up to mine to have an easy experience and confidence in the trustworthiness of the platform.
As far as I can see, Patreon suspended one account early in the war because they thought the charity was using the money to purchase weapons, and Patreon have since removed fees for Ukrainian creators so more money can go directly to them. Obviously the account suspension isn't ideal but I haven't seen anything that makes it seem like it was a decision that indicates a problem with the platform rather than a single issue in a fast moving and very public space.

@@OldForgeCreations sorry, but it is a huge deal breaker for me.
      1. Patreon suspended Ukrainian aid account that existed since 2016. And they did it at that moment, when money was needed the most.
      2. They did removed fees for ukrainians but only until may 31 and they did it after a huge backlash (multiple accounts that I support left patreon).
      3. They still operate in ruzzia. So technically they support the regime.
After the war started, I decided to stop buying from or supporting anyone that either still operate in ruzzia or help them in other ways. If that means, I can't support some of the creators, let it be. It is small price to pay.
