The Civic we got in the US from 1988 to 1992 was one of the best looking mass-market cars I've ever seen. I wouldn't change a thing about it.

by 1994 North America already had the 5th generation Civic body style released in late 1991 as a 1992. This body style is still a 4th generation Civic holdover they must have kept selling in Japan. I owned a 1989 4th gen Civic Si I bought as my first car in 1993. I loved that car!

Had an 86 Wagovan that I purchased in 1997 for I believe $1900. I purchased it as mainly a winter commuter car and wound up having it for roughly 6 years. What a great little car which far exceeded any expectations I could have had. It was my first of many future Hondas I wound up owing, all due to that little wagon 👍

@@mat13174 good ole Honda. I have a 2008 civic si now with 250k and counting. That’s enough to sell me on another, I just love older cars. How was the awd in the wagovan? We get decent snow here every now and then in Ohio

I think manual + AWD is an underrated combination. I know everyone wants RWD, but I like the better performance offered by an AWD system. That’s why I always felt the 1991 Isuzu Piazza RS Turbo with its AWD system and Lotus-tuned passive 4WS system was a very underrated car that could’ve been a lot more impressive had the put the effort into it.

Excellent videos always zach. However there's just one thing I wanted to point out, and that is these were available with four-wheel drive in the United states. Honda called it real-time 4 wheel drive in the US. They also had the super low first gear, much like the Toyota Tercel 4 wheel drive tall wagon.

So from what I kinda know about these things, this would be a Shuttle trim level model. The Shuttle Beagle was a FULL-FLEDGED off road variant with special two-tone paint/exterior trim, front push-bar w/auxiliary lighting, Shuttle Beagle graphics, increased ride height and Del Sol(JDM CRX) alloys and extra interior features not shown on this model! Always wanted this generation Civic Wagon, BUT after discovering the Shuttle/Shuttle Beagle, the U.S. spec Civic wagon version may as well be a 1973-78 Civic wagon in comparison feature-wise. Cool vid and great to shed some light on this cool and unique 90’s Honda I’m sure a lot of EF Civic fans weren’t aware of!

Yeah if you're going to look for one in the states you got to look for a 1988 to 1991 because this is considered the EF chassis in America the same time that we got the EF Civic hatchback and regular and SI models and also the EF 4-door sedan and also the CRX from 88-91
The one in the video is the Japanese one they kept selling later o n past 91 when we killed off this body style of EF chassis by 92 we were making the EG chassis which is the EG hatch EG sedan or EG coupe which is the 92 to 95
They were four-wheel drive or two-wheel drive depending on which model you get and either come with the d15 with 90 horsepower or the d16 same one in the video with 110 horsepower but they will be 5-speed manual not 6-speed
Also if you're going to get one and you plan to lower it you're better off getting a two-wheel drive model because of the pumpkin and the rear for the differential will be too low to the ground if you're somebody who wants to leave at stock ride height or lift it then go for getting the four-wheel drive model
A lot of people will also give it a little bit of a power bump and they'll put a d16 z6 engine or just the engine head from a 92-95 Civic EX or si and then you'll get VTEC and about a 20 horsepower bump

This fabric is called velour/velvet. I miss it dearly. 1990-93 Celica also had such in middle trims. Its far better than leather. I hate hownit got just removed and manufacturers pretend like alcantara is a replacement. Velour was medium trim between leather and basic cloth seats whioe alcatara is top option only and it doesnt even remotely feel as nice as real velour.

It's not that the Japanese were saving the best for themselves. The American car companys were so remedial at making quality and value. They begged the US government to slap stupid amounts of taxes on imports. So the Japanese markets got savvy and gave us roll up windows. All while a 1990 240SX had an HUD option

Tall wagons like this, the Toyota Tercel, and the Eagle Summit were an interesting approach to compact wagons. The manual + AWD combo is something you rarely see. JDM cars tend to be extremely well taken care of because of their strict inspections and have low kilometers because the country's so small and the public transit is incredible. Owning a car is very expensive in Japan and parking can be scarce. I'm not a Honda guy but I respect this one.
JDM cars also have the funniest model and trim level names.
