He is an excellent chess ambassador, he got talent, class, looks, professionalism.
But why doesn't he get a refillable water bottle?
@@mateobartlett So you mean its not refillable? I only used PET waterbottles, and after a month or two it gets recycled and I get a new juice/water in the store that includes a new PET bottle ;)
@@liiiinder Magnus is always drinking from plastic water bottles. Look at his banter blitz sessions. Sure, you can refill a plastic bottle. I've had the same water bottle for over 4 years. It's a little banged up, but it's doing well and staying out of oceans.
Mateo Bartlett They give you water bottles for during matches
@@mateobartlett same bottle for over 4 years? Sounds like bullshit to me. A bottle that has cracks after a couple of days will be infested with bacteria, cant imagine someone holding on to a plastic water bottle for +4 years. If you did, please get yourself tested, though i am assuming you just threw this argument without doing research.
6:42 "I wonder if anyone will notice if I put this one back?".
Carlsen was arranging the pieces for his next game (Carlsen plays all the games on the top board in these sort of tournaments no matter what his current position is)
Actually, to my knowledge this is only because the Norwegian public TV channel NRK1 is broadcasting the tournament and has their main equipment set up on only one board. Otherwise he would have switched boards just as anyone else!
@@fredblic Not necessarily. In Blitz tournaments there is always one player sitting at the same board all the time changing colours only while the rest of the players are turning around him changing places.
@@henryseidel5469 This is not true. In blitz tournaments that are swiss (most of them are), only players with the most points stay at the top boards. If you do see players often changing colours on top board (without any exception like Magnus), then it means they are likely winning all their games or atleast leading the tournament.
@@sauron4313 Nothing to do with the number of won games. When you arrange a Blitz with an odd number of participants the first board is turned from one game to the next, and the rest of the players is shifting around the first board until everybody has played against everybody.
@@henryseidel5469 That would be for smaller blitz tournaments with a few participants. I am referring to larger swiss blitz tournaments.
He adjusts those pieces a little quicker with Grischuk sitting across from him though

kirk toufor he just put the pieces back in their starting place at the end which is common practice and basic etiquette. Not a ‘beautiful gesture’ as the click bait title suggested 😂
kirk toufor unless I’m wrong and there was some other beautiful gesture I missed.
@@jakehixon4073 I think he was thinking about that game and his hands just set the pieces up. I always see him grab a piece off the board and fiddle with it. He's just one of those guys that fiddles while he thinks. Beautiful gesture... Lol. Somebody has a sense of humor

Не очень сильная партия для Магнуса
His beautiful gesture was him even rearranging Grischuk's pieces though it is is considered one should rearrange his pieces after the match!
Ya anyways hi shivanth
Abhay here
Sure. But from what I have heard Magnus and Sascha are very good friends as well, so maybe that's the reason him arranging all the pieces!
In most of rapid or blitz tournament the winner goes to annonce the score and the other player replace both pieces, in case of draw it's usually the white one how goes, it depends of the tournament rules. I guess those rules where made to spare time and avoid delaying the next rounds. Both of them don't care which one will rearrange pieces...
In the background, Kramnik beats Alireza, but Alireza just leaves the board afterwards. kramnik arranges the pieces for both white and black. This is seen in the other video. We only see Alireza resigning at the end.
1:15 is the chess definition of sniping from across the map.

It's amazing to me that these days you have to be famous to be seen for any goodness. We seem to worship famous people and miss the day-to-day amazing acts of humility and kindness from millions of people around us. I'm glad that Magnus has humble moments, but look around. This is happening in everyday life. Don't overlook it.
There are thousands of random good humanity videos. This is a chess video. Jfc
8:30 everyone running out of time 😩
ha, ha, ha, ha
Even if you're super good at chess and a millionaire because of it, I still think it's nothing but normal to put the pieces back on their starting squares when you finished the game. A nice gesture is not extra nice, just because you're rich and famous.
Exactley, couldn't have said it better myself. We are so programed into worshipping celebs it's crazy to think they are *super humble* when they do normal everyday sruff that we deadly people do. That being said, I really do like Magnus!
Absolutely right
Very humble indeed, arrives last and plays on a stage above everyone else 😂
Necessary comment
No matter who you are, you should. It’s sportsmanship
I'm not sure what the great gesture was at the end, but slowing down the video to guess the moves it was incredible the precision that both player's displayed throughout the game, especially in the last 10 or so moves which required great precision. Playing that well with only seconds on the clock just boggles my mind. Grischuk saw the perpetual check and forced it. It looked like his only defence!.
Magnus likes to play the psychological games, he never shows up to a table first . He lets the opponent get nervous . He always takes his coat off casually when he sits down, this is to make them even more nervous by showing that he is relaxed . And he completely throws away the first few seconds of the game centering his pieces like the seconds don’t mean anything to him
he comes in exactly the same way kasparov did when he was just a boy, even adjust his pieces! Watch the video of him playing as a child
all the top players seem to have good sportmanship and seem to get along and are good ambassadors for the game. The only real sour note in recent times was Topalov's beef with Kramnik
Grischuk truly loves chess, and is such a professional. Wants to discuss the truth of the position even if it’s just blitz.
So intense! Gotta love those new Carlsen gestures...
. G richuk '
Magnus has charisma along with exemplary skills
Grischuk excels in complicated positions even with fewer pawns.
Firoza on the front is going to write an application against Carlsen for coming little late ...., And resigns at 9:52 to Kramnik
It would be called a grievance not an application lol
Firouzja is like 16 bruh. Magnus is at his prime and can't a single game to save his life. Probably the weakest wch of all time.
LOL 😋
I want to visit this videos for chess, not for clickbait. Thanks in advance!
Carlsen beautiful gesture of coming late 😍😍😍😂😂😂😂😂
Its my request to the chessbase forum to make a small digital board just in a corner to see the pieces moving. It is problematic to see the exact position of them and simultaneously evaluate the positions by the sideview.
Alexander Grischuk just walked away. The little things are what separate him from being great. details. Magnus a true chessmaster understands the little things that as a chess player you should always do and one of them is being humble.
That's one way to overanalyze a polite and amicable end of a chessgame.
These men sacrifice their lives to play on a runway. Brave.
Glad to follow you on youtube Magnus,.. when I want to relax from the day I watch one of your games🤓
I'd like my chess would be so strong as the button on Carlsen's shirt
Most people have such a nauseating admiration for their heroes. Hero does the most irrelevant mundane thing and everybody starts to say how nice and humble he is LOL.
Arranged pieces in board even after his opponent left.
Wow. Reseting the board after the opppnent left. Maybe he is Jesus reborn.
@@alexandrefreitas9295 Don't be an idiot. Each player does it himself, but by this gesture, Magnus conveys deep respect to a veteran.
If I played Karpov and won, I would do the same simply for the respect and admiration of the opponent.
Yes, he set up the board for the players who will be playing the next game. Very nice gesture from the world champion, and totally unexpected and required.
lol he's not, he's pretty aggressive actually and the only reason for this is that he cannot switch boards cuz the setup tv camera
Very inspiring. He's one hell of a World Champion.
It's a kind gesture because I have seen carlsen always coming when match is about to start and peices are adjusted by the opponent before he comes. But in this match he is arranging , as it is a draw by repitition they will play again . So that is why it a great gesture , I think magnus did this because gris had to do some thing important. Or because of the controversy before this match (I am just writing the other reason purposely to draw attention towards the controversy 😅)
Carlsen's OCD is well known, from lining up his pieces exactly in the centre of the squares and knights facing sideways towards each other.
OCD?

He knew he could time the opponent out with repeat moves, so offered the draw instead of taking the win.
Great to live in the times of probably one of the greatest chess players ever!
who is the winner ? I never understand the end...
He went blundered a winning endgame to an ending that was somewhere between drawn and objectively-lost. After a blunder like that - he wants to reset the board more so he doesn't have to keep re-living his mistake and less because he's trying to be "an ambassador of the game." But it is relieving to know that the world's best chess player remembers where all the pieces go. If you hadn't cut the video, he might have reset the clock as well.
У грищука от радости в зобу дыхание спёрло! Побежал и фигуры за собой не установил на доске. Магнус молодчина!!!
Even though I cheered for Fabi to win last championship I can't help but admire Magnus. He is just a class act all the way around.
He loves chess thats why
I really like the fact that he is now a millionaire, thanks to chess.
Never has money been given more deservedly.
Such a formidable mind only has to worry about improving in his talent.
Thanks world and bravo Carlsen.
9:52 and in this position ali reza firuzja resign the game
mouh moumou and threw a bottle of water on the wall...
It was a simple draw by repetition. Carlssen's beautiful gesture is still to be searched...
These guys like each other no doubt about that.
At 6:17 if Grischuk Rook takes bishop h2 king takes rook bishop takes pawn c4 check, he is up 2 material attacking pawn b1. Right?
Also, may be, just may be, Carlsen wanted to have a nice look in the eye with Alireza. So, sticking around after his game probably helped. Remember, they are coming into this 20th round after a misguided appeal by Alireza against Carlsen's win in the previous round had just been turned down by the appeals committee. Chess can be quite dramatic 😁
He reset all the pieces at the end, but left the kings out in the middle to signify a draw.
I pike how Magnus just tilts his head and was like: "Alright, can't argue with that!"
The beauty must be the part where the man in the jacket blocks the camera for 20 seconds
The mind you have to have to be able to see patterns and think that far ahead is not how my brain is wired. This is amazing stuff!
There are many videos where Magnus’ contestants wait him and he runs in a hurry to start a game.

Hello all. I'm relatively new to chess and I'm not sure the result of this match. I think Magnus offered a draw before he repeated his king move, and I correct?
Yes, it is.
Rearranged the set, and left 2 kings at the center. You got to appreciate it. Recognizing greatness.
Why does he put the Kings in the Center?
@@royrogersmcfreely9846 Its a chess custom after a draw, but I don't think anyone expects a player of his caliber to do so. I think he'd done it out of sheer respect.
@@nomorephones Oh thats great I have nothing but respect for him.

I have only recently start following this game and watching these GM in action is really educational and you can grasp the real meaning of Chess and how it should be played. Now, my probably stupid question is related to those extra Queens on the clock side of the table. Initially I did not noticed them, but four minutes in the game , I started to notice the presence of too many queens soo I have looked back at the beginning, and there were already two more queens just standing on the table.
Why is that?
if black or white pushes a pawn across the entire board he can promote it to another queen, so the extra queen allows two of them
If they deside to promote another piece - they are all doubled, and there is much fewer probability that person wishes to have the third knight rather than second queen
@@lilbroomstick3078 shhiii, homie you play chess? F**k you doin' out here? Get back in the studio.

As carlsen grows older, he definitely has become more matured. Earlier when he was in his teens or very early twenties, he could be seen as cranky, a sore loser who would sometimes throw tantrums etc. Now he handles losses gracefully (eg: when he lost the playoffs to Ding). Sure he remains as competetive as he was before, but he has grown a lot and handles defeat much better
