Hatsumi sensei is happy and in very good health, he is even making jokes. He still teaching us every time we see him, even by a photo. I hope he still alive for many years and we can keep learning from him
I saw a quote attributed to him that I really liked. Someone had asked what the essence of Ninjitsu was. IIRC, his reply was, "Watching my grandchildren play." As an 80s kid, I was into ninjas and Ninjitsu. Got the uniform, shuriken, and toy weapons from Sho Kosugi's martial arts store. Read articles and books my Hatsumi and Hayes. Great time for a kid interested in the martial arts.
Reference 1:48: The patch. Steve's Shadows of Iga Society. One of the first Ninja training groups in the U.S. The earily 80's? I'm pretty sure he and Larry Beaver still had a Karate school when he got back from Japan and started the S.o.I.
Well said. I never had the opportunity to meet Hatsumi soke. Until Taijutsu, Ninjutsu, or whatever they want to call it, I had taken many forms of martial arts. I have never seen an art so well rounded. To teach striking, grappling, weapons, etc the way this one does. Obviously you have to take the teaching tools, study them, and make modern adaptations for self defense. That being said, without Hatsumi, The only things we would know about the ninja would be what we read in an old James Bond novel. I thank him and you for your dedication to passing on the way of the ninja, and samurai.
