Sometime we need to stop working on cars and take some time to work on the business. Inventory may seem insignificant but it could be costing you money and time if it is not reviewed from time to time. We don't track inventory closely in our shop management system but we can use that system to review our item movement. This will help us decide if our current inventory is adequate over unnecessary. Our shop uses NAPATracs Enterprise and although this system may seem antiquated it still gets regular updates. We use this system because it is reliable. A cloud based system always runs the risk of being unavailable because of server failure or internet outages.

Take time to add item location to your inventory. Example at our shop we have a "filter rack" location. All of our oil filters are in that area. This will cut down on the search without having to use so many wild card filters. Also having Manufacturer (FIL in this example) also helps. Lastly make sure that the box for stocked has a checkmark. This will only show items that you currently keep in stock if you have set them that way in the system.
Lastly to find the item movement you can run an item movement report that will pull all of this data up and you can print, save and can even search within the report. This feature is found just to the right of the circle square triangle icon. Looks like a bunch of papers for the icon. I highly recommend running reports of all kinds as they are extremely helpful.
