To answer Gus's question about the earth spinning, it's worth noting that everything on the earth is also spinning at that speed. When the air is still, it is also spinning at that speed, and when it's windy the air is either moving faster than the earth spins (if it is moving in the direction of the earths rotation) or slower than the earth spins (if the other direction). This is the same for objects that leave the surface of the earth. If there is no force acting on you to move you (propulsion or winds), you continue at the same speed as the earth spins. There is no air resistance that would slow you down, because the air itself is also spinning. Relative to the plane, the earth is not spinning. From an outside perspective, the earth's spin might mean the destination is closer to or further from where it was at take off, but your plane is still travelling at that rotational speed, plus or minus the speed of the plane's propulsion (depending on whether you are flying with or against the direction of spin).

I was away from Black Box Down because I had a flight for travel/holiday ad didn't want to jinx myself in anyway + I got scared. It's great to hear Gus, and Chris again, since they're entertaining, and deliver this podcast really engagly. Sad to hear it'll be winding down, but I'll enjoy all the moments, and maybe re-listen to some of the older ones :)

I am hoping it will be on their list before they end. I would like to hear them cover Air New Zealands only major accident.
