Whaddaya mean bro the best goggles are swimming goggles. Cheap, effective, and stylish! Seriously though thank you for this amazing review! I think ima choose those melon optics though, look unbeatable!
Sadly, there appears to be no reviews of the base model Leatt Velocity 4.5 goggle. Thanks to the Loam Wolf for reviewing the Velocity 5.5 model. I felt comfortable trying the next model down based on their review. I purchased these from Amzon Prime for $49 delivered. I needed the goggles for a trip to Spider Mountain in Burnet, TX where it can be dry, dusty and blown out. My Oakley Prizm sunglasses provide excellent coverage and contrast, but can't provide the protection and keep out the dust like a goggle. For $49 with the upgraded Iriz lens, I was very happy with the Velocity 4.5. If you don't care for the Iriz lens, they are only $39. I was very impressed with the optics and the wide field of view that is free of distortion. A key difference between the Velocity 4.5 and the 5.5 model is the absence of the outrigger system, the 5mm narrower strap which measures 40mm and only dual density foam and not three density foam. I had no issues with the goggles on my Troy Lee Designs Stages full face helmet. I did not experience any slipping and felt that despite the lack of an outrigger system, the goggle stayed secured against my face. While it was only 76-80*Fs (24-27*C), the anti-fog treatment worked well. When the day and my efforts heated up, a quick and temporary adjustment to my head angle moved more air to the top foam which cleared any moisture in the goggle. The frame is very sturdy and confidence inspiring. Full face mountain bike helmets like the TLD Stages, have an ample face opening that doesn't seem to require the benefits of an outrigger system. Your experience may vary. For $49 shipped, I'm very happy with the Velocity 4.5 and expect they will perform well for quite some time. Replacement lens are reasonably priced, varied in color and tint, and easy to swap on the Velocity 4.5s despite not having the easier lens switching of the Velocity 6.5. If you don't require an outrigger system and can live with 40mm of strap width, I think you'd be happy with Velocity 4.5. Also, the foam managed my perspiration fine, but it was not as hot as it can be here in TX. I will update the review if I experience any issues with the dual foam density. If you don't care for the Iriz lens and only need a clear or regular colored lens, the Velocity 4.5 goggles are only $39. That's a lot of eye protection for not a lot of money. In my opinion, the Velocity 4.5 goggles are easily way better eye protection than what $40 would buy you from any sunglass brand or model and still a lot more protection than premium full coverage style sunglases like Oakley Sutro, Jawbreaker, or Flight Jacket models. While I liked the Iriz contrast and felt it was more than adequate, it is not up to the level of contrast as the Oakley Prizm lenses. I'm happy with my purchase and was happy to find that I didn't give my goggles any thought while riding downhill trails. I think you want your protective gear to fall into the background of your thoughts so that you can focus on the task at hand, having fun and staying on the bike. Thanks again to The Loam Wolf. Hope you don't mind my adding these comments on the Velocity 4.5. I think it's a great value, especially if your need for goggles is less frequent.
Finally a good and helpful review! Tallied opinions from multiple riders, testing over a longer period of time. Pros and most importantly cons, not just the marketing bs found in many other "reviews". Helped me make my purchase decision big time, gonna be picking up the Leatt's. You have earned a new subscriber, keep up the great work!
Thanks very much Tamas! We appreciate it and enjoy the goggles. If you purchase them from www.competitivecyclist.com/goggles and use LOAMWOLF15 you may get 15% off on applicable items!
4 year old video still helping us out. Thank you for this review. I'm a fan of Oakley because of their first responder discount. I'm familiar with their flight decks for snowboarding. I've been using them for several seasons. Recently took up MTBing. Once you said they're the ones to beat, that's all I needed to hear. Just put my order in. $91. Hopefully I'll like the airbrakes as much as my flight decks.
The Oakley Airbrakes are still the best goggles 4 years later. They were on sale for 1 day only on Amazon so when I saw they were "only" $95 I finally pulled the trigger. Black strap with clear lens, I ride mostly bike parks in wooded conditions, and I got a bronze pair too but haven't tested them yet. I tried everything and had actually settled on $25 Leatt Velocity 4.5 which for the price are great, but they stopped making my preferred lens. I also had 100% and Smith which I really liked, but the lens scratched really easily, and I'm pretty picky with keeping them clean. The Airbrakes just have such a better view, like WAY better view than anything else I've used. You don't know what you're missing until you try them, and once you do you'll never be able to go back.
It is truly superior to everything else. We agree. not to say that there aren't other goggles that are very good for much better values, but Airbrake is king.
exact same here. i think i will still go 100% though because now the racecraft2 has a buch better feild of veiw. and has a cool ventilation system! to hot over here in west oz for the leatts
Thanks Ben! Lens color for conditions is very important. To be totally honest we don't know if there's documented science out there, BUT, we'd imagine that every person probably has tints that work best for them and their vision. For example, I hated some of the older Prizm lenses in SoCal bright sunny conditions. Others loved it. In the spotty light, woods my absolute favorite is a light blue tint and I got turned onto that by pros I looked up to when racing Snow Summit DH back in the 90s. It's stuck with and I feel it does a great job of balancing brightness and still offering definition and shadows on undulating terrain. Dark smoke is probably best suited for open desert, and full sun. Some people like reddish tints and I found the new Prizms by Oakley to be pretty awesome all around. I think a lot of people use goggles and lenses particularly as fashion accessories and not performance gear. Mirrored lenses look bad ass, but you don't look cool in last place or spitting up dust because you couldn't see a hidden rock in the woods! Test different lenses out and see what works best. For me, it's light blue.
Can you wear goggles with sunglasses/eyeglasses on? Will it depend on the size of the frame/head if the goggle will float a bit attached to the helmet?
Thank you for the review. I wanted to buy Melon glasses but now I'm deciding between Scott Prospect and Leat Velocity 6.5. The price is similar. I can't decide now. :D
@@TheLoamWolf Right now I order Leatt Velocity 6.5 for very good price. 107€ i got googles with Iriz lens one replaceable iriz in diferent colours and one transparent lens 😁 Thanks for reviewing again😉
Regarding Oakley Airbrake MTB, have you noticed any issues with dust? I cannot decide between MX (beter dust protection) and MTB (beter air flow). It would be helpful.
We couldn't include everyone sadly, and the limited experience we've had with previous Smith's wasn't spectacular. We do love their Chromapop sunglasses though!

Dang man! You looking for a job? we need some reviewers to help lighten our load. haha. Thanks for sharing so much detail.
I think I'm gonna go with these combined with the Leatte Dbx 4.0 Enduro fullface helmet.

No 100% Armega.... Seriously?
Airbrake, prospect, armega are the only goggles you should ever use
Price of lense replacement would be helpful..
You’re on UA-cam so obviously you have access to the internet not that hard to figure out.

Got the oklay best goggle ever never had a batter view trough some sportglases
Which one if you don’t mind me asking
Smith Squad Mtb
Would the MX Oakley goggles be alright for enduro races; like small sprints or will they just fog up?
Great video very professional too
I was gonna get the 100% goggles but after watching this I’m leaning more towards the leatt or prospect

great you are showing and pointing and using clear language, great comparison.
Hi guys, if u can do updated goggle video with more goggles. Thanks a lot
Great review guys! What are your thoughts on lens color for differing conditions such as woods/darker or a more open terrain/sunny?

Where are the shots from tests?
Showing 360 the Helmet + Goggles shape fit with the riders + sizing would make this video perfect.
Thank you.
Thanks for the feedback!
I am writing this at 02.02.2021
The Melon optics, both of their goggles are out of stock last time I checked few days ago.
oakley crowbar MX is the best for me, id tried some brand but oakley is best fit and breathability..
I am interested in the Leatt 6.5 and Oakley air brake. I am also interested in trying Roll Offs.

What happened to Uvex, why doesn't that brand represent?
Hi! any idea if Oakley Airbrake will fit IXS trigger mips helmet M/L ? my melon goggles just barely fit and it's not great so looking for an upgrade
Why no Fox Vue and Poc Ora?
I thought he said welcome to lone wolf and I’m like when did I click on a paintball link?
i see the leatt 6.5 in the background. Why was the 5.5 chosen over the 6.5?
Regarding Oakley Airbrake MTB, have you noticed any issues with dust? I cannot decide between MX (beter dust protection) and MTB (beter air flow). It would be helpful.
Def the mtb for me, fogging sucks
@@64x83 thanks. I did choose mtb. Same reason.
You guys pick the MTB on a dirtbike?
No. Way too dusty for us. Unless it’s slow “hard enduro” type riding in the winter.
Do the scott orospects have any differences between the enduro and mx version, anything else than the lens?
I have to wonder how much actual performance difference exists from the highest rated to the lowest rated.
A noticeable difference for sure! But that doesn’t mean you have to buy the most expensive. Leatt goggles offer our favorite performance to value.
Not me wearing airbrakes while watching the vid
Should I get tinted or clear. Is tinted really dark?
@The Loam Wolf, are fly racing any good?
How about high humid weather and fogging issues in some places? Any suggestion for better ventilated choice?
Smith's new Squad XL is pretty well ventilated and Oakley has a "bike" /enduro goggle that also is highly ventilated. Check those out.
Hey we would love to be part of your next Goggle Test...
Hey! We would love to speak to you about this. What is a good contact email for your brand?
@@TheLoamWolf 800-215-2729
Okaley MX vs MTB. Is it venting that differs them? Ive had issues with MX googles while doing enduro riding, but didnt use them DHing
Yes there are some major venting differences that would make them better for DH, MTB and possibly some hard enduro applications with slower speeds.
I ride hare scrambles would you recommend the MTB for single trail on a dirtbike? Or would too much dirt get in
No Smith??? Wtf?
Ik its an old vid but yk
What a about Fox?
Mido 6 pies 1 pulgadas
In Uk Scot Prospect allmost 200 pounds, so. expensive...
Thanks for the great review! What is your thought of the popular Smith goggles?
surprised theres no smith in this review
