I wasn't sure I could like any series as much as Timberborn but I was wrong - This is a fast favorite! I definitely want more, but the only thing I miss is the banter with Picture Perfect! More banter! More laughing at you! And with you, if she must. Keep up the great work!
Oh, Skye. You precious little gem. How lucky we are to be able to come along on your adventures. I am oh so truly thankful have this little oasis to temporarily shield away the troubles of modern day existence. And this game. In combo with what you are adding to it. The potential is beyond what a bearer of very little brain can fathom. Cheers!
A couple of Quality of life mods you should look into are Build Info and Build Vision, both of these are hugely beneficial. One more to look at would be Automatic Ore Pickup, this puts ore you mine with the hand drill into your inventory instead of just dropping the ore onto the ground. With such an abundance of Ice you should switch over to hydrogen power, a single hydrogen engine produces 5 MW of power, way more efficient than wind power and a good stepping stone to nuclear reactors. I would start by building a couple of H2/O2 generators attached to some hydrogen tanks and then a hydrogen engine or two and maybe a dedicated cargo container with sorters for the ice you will mine. Then add a couple batteries and 2 event controllers. Have one controller watch the batteries and when they are over 80-90% charge have it set to turn off the hydrogen engines, have the second controller turn the engines back on if the battery charge drops bellow 30%. You could have a third controller watch your hydrogen tanks and turn on a flashing light when their stored fuel dips too low letting you know you need to mine more ice. Id also make sure to put the sorters on your miner in a group and then add them to your hot bar with a toggle to turn them off/on for when you want to keep the stone/ice you mine instead of spitting it out.
Even if the hydrogen engine would make 5 GW power, it still wouldn't be as efficient as wind or solar. Efficiency means the ratio between what you put in and what you get out. Because you put nothing in wind and solar to get power out, they are always infinitely more efficient than hydrogen which needs fuel. The word you're looking of is "effective". More effective means more power, which is where hydrogen wins.
@@anteshell Efficiency isn't just about fuel, it's also about resources and time spent, you have to build 10-15 wind turbines to match the output of a single hydrogen engine and that's with perfect conditions. Properly done a hydrogen setup can last for hours of play time without having to refuel, and then when you do need to refuel it only takes a couple minute when your sitting on an Ice lake, Having a couple hydrogen engines takes a lot less time and resources than building fields of wind turbines, especial as your base grows. In that way it is a much more efficient use of time and resources which was what my suggestion was all about. It's better to take a few minutes to build some hydrogen engines than have to constantly expand a wind farm. That,s something I learned the hard way when I first started playing, I must have had over 50 turbines trying to power that base lol.
@@Serathim Still false. Sure, the immediate one time cost per amount of energy produced is much lower with hydrogen, but as time goes on, it will still always turn in favour of solar and wing because you don't need to keep refueling them.
At this point, his power requirements are miniscule, so it's not really much of an issue... but having event controllers set so the hydrogen engine is only "on" when the batteries are low means you won't be burning through ice unless you actually NEED the extra power, so it's both efficient and effective... although, again, it's probably unnecessary. That said, if you only do what's "necessary" in Space Engineers, what's the point? Just sayin'. YMMV.
I would LOVE a picture of an amateurish looking sketch of how the base is planned out. On a napkin of course. In all seriousness, the start of this base looks awesome. I can't wait to see it take shape, with a row of docking rings on the back of the hangar. It might look cool to build "guest landing platforms" on the ridge outside. Or just dedicate one of the hangar bays to parking space for transport ships. I'm also looking forward to seeing a possible huge cavernous hangar being built on a lower floor. Something that looks like it belongs on a Star Destroyer, and can house multiples of something the size of the Millennium Falcon.
It’s just a fraction of what’s to come, love the mechanics of the doors, lighting, and storage. I’m excited for how you set up the network of creating and storing items
i love space engineers and I love your commitment. did you see your ship is damaged. last episode I heard a bang and now I see one of your back engines is missing.
Last episode, when you was mining and something exploded. That was your bottom left forward thrust thruster. Might want to get it added back on. Also make a blue print of your ship, that way you can add a projector and print one off. Should of used big grid welders on pistons and hinges to do the door, attached to the cargo container with a junction off the top. Less hand welding.
Great base, great series! Considering the scale you are already building at on episode 5 you may want to look into some of the welding mods like ai enabled or nanobots. Could save your sanity.
Loving this series and cant wait for you to meet Clang. I have played so many hours on space engineers in the past. Rumor is space engineers 2 is in production and should be a great improvement on the game.
Now that's a beautiful start to having a sexy S.H.A.G.G.E.R. Hangar! I can't wait to see more of the base get built, though I will say the place could do with a splash of color beyond the flight lines and hazard lines. Not sure exactly what colors would work best here, though with the mention of Echo Base, maybe some blues to contrast the rock and accentuate the ice below?
Have to admit wasn't too arsed on this series to start with but am starting to really like it. Timberborne is my fave and always will be but happy to have more than 1. Keep up the good work miss Pictures beavers giggles tho
There are some quality of life mods for decorating and blocks setting. Paint gun mod allows you to craft "paint gun" and paint blocks without the need of having one unobstructed block of space around it. Build Vision 3.0 mod allows you to set up blocks by mouse and keyboard without searching millions of lights in control panel.
VERY NICE doors ;-) I should put multiple sensors for the doors ;-) and try not to open them if you fly in person to your Echobase, only be open for your ship(s), should be a kind off indicator who you are (if that is possible). For the three little personal doors their own sensors ;-) It looks great they all open all, but it does not make sense ;) I presume you get all the equipment/ processors later inside. And you could add an only "dump" connector for unloading raw materials below the big platform. But I think it is still sweet if that is only inside. Inside in the mid at half high a platform include an airlocked room with windows on both sides for viewing the hangars :) Beneath a few large walkable corridors. PLEASE remover the weird windturbines :p Put them on top off the mountain.
would love to see some new ships or rovers, mini ones for inside, mining out more, repairs or moving goods around the base or a giant transport for outside that is only used for going to the trading port.
looks like a neat base you have got started, consider changing the light colors ever so slightly, I like a bit more yellow/orange (think the old streetlamps) if I want an industrial feel or for a sifi feel a bit of a light blue. also cool to see you grab the DLC, it's all great stuff though not necessary for anything in particular, consider building an ATM to deposit the SC so it's not taking up space in your inventory. (a store block can also do it but less neatly)
Hey Skye, love the series, makes me want to play Space Engineers again myself :) You mentioned you spent some time welding up those floors inside the base. How about making a ship/vehicle that can weld that for you?
@SkyeStorme in the DLCs there are variations of the Hangar doors which look in my opinion better ie windows added ect ect, it would realy help you in decorating ect and with your attention to detail your base would look awesome. if you dont want to handweld just get a welder on a pistion have it connected into your conveyor line and sit back and relax. Love your content keep up the good work.
I'm looking forward to you experimenting with remote control blocks. I found it quite useful for mining ships as can set way points so auto pilot can take the ship to and from mining spots. Also when you get to space I recommend experimenting with the gravity generators to speed up mining. (Add grav generator to ship with hoppers and refinery etc and set the miner to eject ores which are then caught in the gravity field for auto collection/refining)
Mining drones are great! I chose to make a few cargo drones, so while I mine with a ship, they’ll take resources back, and park nearby awaiting their tanks to get full before going back! The AI and event controllers blocks were game changing being a console player.
You can create the shell of the room you want, in creative mod, take a blueprint, bring back to survival and use a projector to project it on the mountain, using the projection as a guide for the miner
Very fun stuff. I love your imagination. Did you know that you can build a welding ship, which will make the welding up of all those armor blocks go much, much faster?

Depending on your controls, the "h" key changed the visibility of all in the HUD at once. You can force the entire text by holding left alt, which is the same key to look around.
Spotlights are not great for area lighting, there is an extreme lighting mod that takes the interior lights to 10. As a balance to the area they use a ton of power. Allows you to cut down on the number of lights you need, having a lot of them can affect frame rate and smoothness.
hey skye hint if you don't wont ice from the O2/ hydrogen gen from being ejected from the miner you can put a Conveyor Sorter in the conveyor line that connects the miner to the base, it will just mean that you will have to have another ship meant to transport things to the trade station. also you could make a welder ship to help build when you have big sections to do ??. dont forget that you can also put the drills on pistons and rotors and have it connected to the base conveyor system so that you auto-mine and have it make resources.

You can set the option to allow placing lines of blocks instead of one at a time. I just found out the other day.
You need to make the doors open and close independently. Will augment the cool factor further!
Agreed about that!
Yes! Please keep playing this game! I can't wait for you to mastery it and make a moon base and giant ships !! I'm so excited about it

Already moved and rebuild 3 bases... after this video " I'm gonna build a rock base"(Clarkson voice) Thanks for the content good Sir!
Hi Skye, been a while. I'm enjoying this series quite a bit. Keep up the good work!

it is important to check your shaft direction when digging in... wouldn't want to wind up in the wrong hole :)
You should add a siren for when the door opens
