Great video Liam. We have the same kayak model and colour. Heading to porthoustock this weekend. Hoping for some bass and big pollack over the manacles.

Great video as always Liam, I have used your videos to deck out my Viking Profish 400 (Anchor trolley, Anchor ect). I am looking at getting a Garmin Striker 7SV, the transducer does not fit fully into the transducer hole in the keel but it does sit in enough to have it flush with the bottom of the keel. I was thinking of getting a strip of corrugated PVC and placing it over the transducer and bonding on either side of the keel so as to protect it. Do you reckon the 0.8mm thick plastic would interfere with the sideview or an another option would be to to run a plastic strip over the downscan area and leave the side of the transducer open to the water. Appreciate your thoughts before I spend a bunch of money and for it not to work or leave it open to damage.

Thanks David. I have a feeling the side scan transducer on the 7SV is quite a lot bigger than the transducer slot on the PF400, although I haven’t offered one up to the other before. Are you sure you are not thinking of the GT20 transducer with the 7CV?
I’m sure a think plastic shield would be fine - BerleyPro make sidescan cover shields from thin plastic so you should be fine. Just drill plenty of holes in the cover to allow water to flow around the transducer to keep it clear of debris - I would keep a wide slot or opening at the stern end to allow sand / debris to easily flow out. If the transducer does not protrude too much I wouldn’t even bother - they are tougher than people think and are designed to be dragged behind boats often in excess of 20 knots and will take a knock from surface debris at such speeds. You would just have to be careful when resting on flat ground as if the transducer is the low point then all the weight of the kayak and gear would press on the transducer.

@@CornishKayakAngler Cheers, thanks for pointing out the BerleyPro, that's the idea I had in mind with the corrugated pvc. My local fishing shop were kind enough to let me offer up the GT20 & GT52 to the Viking Profish 400. The GT20 nearly fits into the transducer slot but I would have to grind a mm each side of the slot to get it to fit. The GT52 does not fit in the transducer slot but the keel stops an inch either side of the transducer slot and the GT52 fits perfectly in that area but sits flush with the bottom of the keel, the corrugated pvc should protect it nicely. I will definitely keep your other pointers in mind.

I fish more than most Nic and have enough hard-earned money to fund my fishing addiction with as many luxuries as I want, so no good trying to have a dig at me 😉 oh and this is someone else’s kayak I am outfitting too.

Very unnecessary comment. You have no idea what is the use case of different people. I am sure you find it difficult to get your head around all the tech :)
