The sabian x plosion crashes are extremely good, they've never disappointed my ears
Bob Zildjian the younger brother founded Sabian. Armand Zildjian bought out Bob and kept the Zildjian company going.
I've played Zildjian for 30 years but just bought the HHX evolution pack.
They are equal. They've survived this long in the industry. Its just a matter of taste. Entertaining video!
Thank you for the kind words! I agree, both the best in the business!
I’m a Zildjian guy, but that Sabian sounds way better..... it’s hard for me to say that lol 😂
Oh, I totally disagree. Sabian cymbals somehow always sound like they're much smaller than they are.
@@c.r.blankenship9040 right on!! I can see that, know what you mean man!
@Jacob West the sabian aax's are more expensive than the A customs by about 100$
@Jotunn me too lol 😝
Sabian everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. The first professional level cymbals I bought were Zildjian A Custom Crashes and they cracked after 5 or 6 months. I've had a Sabian AA Bash Ride and two AAX Aero Crashes for multiple years and they're still good as new. In terms of sound, they're probably equal, but Sabian kicks Zildjians ass when it comes to durability.
Aaron Stark Sabians have always cracked within about 2 months for me, Zildjians last forever
I've had my a customs over 15 years and no cracks ..stop beating them to death lol
Aaron Stark If you’re breaking cymbals.....you’re not hitting them right. Use the proper tool for the job. A thinner cymbal should not be hit as hard as a heavy cymbal. It’s common sense. If you bash your crashes you should be using heavy or extra heavy crashes.
Aaron Stark If you CRACKED a cymbal you weren’t playing it correctly. Would you use a screwdriver as a hammer and blame it for not getting the job done? If you’re hitting THAT HARD you need HEAVY AND EXTRA HEAVY cymbals.
@@chriswebb383 there you go! Well said & spot on!
started off with Zildjian, then when SABIAN came out started using them as well. I'm Canadian so I have a fondness for the home grown, but now I use a combination of both and a few Dream cymbals too.
The AAX Stage Crash is in my set, too. 👌🏻
I love the look of zildjian cymbals, but my kit is exclusively sabian bc i think they sound best
Sabian for life
I got the new AAX performance pack. That 21” Medium Ride is fun to crash on
sick vid dude really made my choice so much easier thanks man

I used to be a zildjian guy. buuuut I love the hhx line. and sabian kept the best cymbal smiths
Luis Chavez I’ve never had the pleasure of playing the HHX cymbals, hopefully someday I can get a few
Logan Shannon You really should, especially the HHX Evolution and Omni lines. Superb, those...
Luis Chavez Zildjian has the best cymbal Smith’s
The Reverend I used to think that.. but nope. do more research buddy sabian kept all the good ones
Luis Chavez That’s not true. It’s just that Sabian does certain things with the shape of the bow area right after the bell that can push certain frequencies up front and make them sound more focused. Zildjian and Sabian both make the best cymbals in the world.
The Sabian sound way better, in fact it sounds amazing. The Zild sounded fair to me.
When played separately, the Sabian's sound is more pleasant to my ears, but I feel like the Zildjian would cut through the full mix better.
Marek Prudil that’s an interesting observation I wish I still had that custom A to test it out
I liked both so I needed up getting both
same family both make great Cymbals and they work well together but the 2 brothers that did not agree on how the business is ran so that why we have Robert Zildjian the father of Sabian cymbals I love them both great sounds
Absolutely correct! Both are from the Zildjian family
Sabian 👍
Because of each Zildjian brother was trying to "one-up" each other, I believe they made both Zildjian and Sabian (started in 1981 by Bob Zildjian) better and hence, the two best cymbal manufacturers in the world! I have both. You can't go wrong with these two!
Both amazing, but different enough to be useful in different ways. Both of these companies have innovated in different ways since the family split in 1981. The top end brilliance and the hammering techniques on the Custom A are a recording industry/backline standard. Every cymbal sounds a little different, but a Custom A is pretty dependable for sound and quality from cymbal to cymbal. Sabian's craftspeople also have great ears and have developed their own unique hammering techniques and processes it comes through in all of their lines. I think Logan got to the right conclusion at the end of this vid, putting the Custom A on the left for crash/fills and the AAX on the right for playing grooves. The Zildjian family feud, resolved, at least temporarily, on one kit.
Sabian
Dude hitting them cymbals so wrong, and doing so much injustice to it.
I was going to say, this guy can't even play it correctly 😅
@@brianrubin4263there’s no problem in how he played what r u talking about he just played some metal grooves
It's not good to hit cymbals Dead on. Proper technique is to glance your stick off the cymbal. it's also better for sound projection@@oxtailcreator82ingebro49
Use both! :p On warped tour I was assisting drummers in the back and I told one of my buddies, Hey man, what happens if you put a 15" K light on top and a 15" Zildjian Mastersound on the bottom? After we did that, we both fell in love with the sound and I had to get a pair! haha!
H2MOVIEMAKERS that’s sick!
Try it out, man! Sabian AAX with a Zildjian New Beats or K lights on the bottom! haha! Cheers!
I've tried just about all u can think of as far as mixing cymbals to get a diff sound from my hi -hats; A-top Z- bottom, K-top A- bottom, K-top Z-bottom, K-top A Custom-bottom, even tried a K Session- top A Rock bottom; out of all, the K-Z's mash-up is very suitable 4 my tastes, esp Live. This Suprised me also; a 13" A custom bottom on top & a Sabian Pro (heavy) on bottom, weird choice, but sounds GREAT! I highly recommend experimenting with your hi-hat combo, so many choices. 🥁🎵👍
I used to play zildjian. But after a 18 year break of drumming, i prefer tje roughness and the warmth of Sabian
But let me say that: they all make outstanding cymbals
I love both of this brands a really love sabian and they so look so cool but prefer them both
I'm weird but I use both. My current set up consist of A Custom Mastersound HI-Hats, A Custom Crash, Zill-Bel, HHX Groove Ride, AAX Stage Crash, K Splash and Chad Smith Holy China.
Jeremy Jones that Chad Smith China is horrible it cracked within 2 months for me, get a Zildjian hand hammered China or an oriental China by Zildjian they’re the best
The Reverend how long did you have it before it started to crack? Was the crack near the holes or the bow of the Cymbal?
Jeremy Jones He said within 2 months.
I'm a little OCD about mixing brands like this. I would never mix Zildjians and Sabians, Remo and Evans, etc. I feel a little different about mixing sticks, and I can see maybe using a snare from another brand.
I like both! HHX line on Sabian & K Custom hybrid/ K Custom Dark. Same with AAX & A Custom. Peace out!
They both are good... but I prefer Sabian AAX
I prefer Sabian
Sabian for me. 👍
Personally. I'm a HUGE fan of the K custom line. But after repeatedly giving Zildjian a second chance. I just can't justify it anymore. Their crashes particulairly do no hold up and they cost more for some reason. Ive had Zildjian Cymbals last 3 months and I've currently got Sabians that are 5+ years old. Sabian for life
Sabian all the way up
Paiste Signature Series ❤👍👍
SABIAN ALL THE WAY! A far Richer and Greater Dynamic Range and lots of attack , but even though the Zildjians were quieter, it still caused your audio to peak out sharply. The Sabians didn't do that and yet where louder... That's pretty great testament for Sabian! All the warmth of High End Jazz Cymbals in the studio for very good value. And my personal choice for our humble home studio because of value to performance ratio.(but still deciding which budget wise models as yet ~ Right now I'm leaning towards the AAX pack if they have a 15" HI HAT version)
I just subbed to your channel. Would you consider doing a comparison between 13", 14" & 15" Hi Hats? in all aspects of play from Metal to Jazz.(just darker toned ones)
I'm an Old School 58 yr old Prog Rocker who is now playing the role of "ROADIE DAD" for my 14 yr old Guitarist son. I've been in many bands as a bass player and roadied for many friends over the years(especially drummers) and thousands of hours of studio experience. But its so hard to convey my knowledge to this generation without a proper demonstration. My issue today is I'm hearing too many Metal bands having the same basic cookie cutter sound(22" inch Bass drums and kit samples, the same FORTIN plugins etc)
So it would be great to have a source that makes these kinds of comparisons to show what I mean.
I have even more idea's!
Hands down Zildjian! Listen to the depth still there at the finish.
I like the sabians better for the price. There are zildjians I like that sound great, but they always cost more. The sabian AAX and HHX cymbals sound great to my ears.
🤔SABIAN AAX👌🌟😃
Thank you
Drew GTA you’re welcome!
Team sabian😁
Absolutely sabian
They are both good but I prefer Zildjian
Most die-hard stands by zildjians until the blind test
Based on experience, I can say that Sabian is more consistent as far as qc goes, and Zildjian seems to be turning into the Harley Davidson/Apple/Gibson of cymbals. But honestly though, if you want authentic, handmade, Turkish style cymbals, nothing beats cymbals that are actually made in Turkey. Istanbul Agop/Mehmet, and Meinl's Byzance series are perfect examples
Every time I hear these 2 brands compared I always leave feeling the same way. I have no doubt that Zildjian and Sabian are equal in terms of quality and standards, but the sound of Sabian cymbals always seem to have more character, richness, and musicality. Zildjian sounds fine, just a bit...idk...vanilla by comparison.
BINGO!!!
Both are great, but I'm definitely a Sabian guy....
You should do a video about the best cheap mics
I'm a Sabian cymbal guy.
Paiste signature reflector full crash. Better than both. Don't go out to dinner for a month and buy these instead with the money you saved
You should check out the history of both brands. Very interesting!
Sabian is just Literally another Zildjian. Hahahahahahaha Lol
i know @@maegjohncareeon639
I prefer sabian today
I agree with the guy in the video..I think A Custom a has better crash sound than sabian AAXs which sound a little gongy...but I do like Sabian Aax hi hats and ride cymbals in general better than A customs...I called Sabian and Mark Love of Sabian answered, the guy who helped Dave Weckl create the hhx evolution sound..and I told him that to me the hhx evolution and A customs are more similar in sound as far as crashes than the AAX crashes, he actually chuckled and agreed with me. I think the guys who like the Sabian AAx crashes are liking that extra little bit of volume and to me that's due to AAXs in general being a little heavier in general than A customs....without the hhx considered, my setup would be AAX hi hats and AAX ride with A custom crashes...
I agreed with you, the A Customs sound much more like the HHX. I don't know why people compare the HHX to K Customs (though I haven't really listened to K Customs that much). The AAX sounded more like the A series. Definitely prefer the A Custom, though.
I prefer the Sabian, although I am a little biased due to the fact that all of my cymbals are Sabians.
They’re pretty much the same. Both made by the Zildjian family. One of Armonds sons broke off from Zildjian and started Sabian.
Zildian for popbased music for rock n loud music sabian of course so I need sabian🤘
It's cool to see this video for the fact that sabian is made in meductic new Brunswick 10 min from me
I go for sabian.. much better for metal also sabian broke away from zildjian but kept the better guys
Your conclusions are exactly the opposite of what I heard. Heavier cymbals are usually brighter and higher pitched, which was my impression of the Sabian. I found the Zildjian to be lower-pitched (sounding more like an 18" crash should) and was also more complex and washy. I would definitely use the Zildjian as the crash/ride.
Both sounded good, but my ear is different than a microphone and I don't think I'd like the sound of the Zildjian if I heard it in person, the Sabian one I would because I have heard both before and sabians, you have to lay into to get those harsh frequencies out. Zildjians, if you crash them they will let out those harsh frequencies and it sounds unpleasant. I've always found sabian to be more fuller and warmer, where zildjians lack lower frequencies in my opinion.
technically they're both zildjian if you look at the family business history
Sabian forever !
Yes sir 🔥
they both work well, but I prefer the zildjian
my school uses ZBT Zildjian cymbals but my Thursday classroom uses pst 3 and 5 paiste. so far Zildjian is the best
i never used sabian so idk if they are truly good or not
Th3 Zm0nst3r Paiste and Zildjian is the best
Zildjian definitely has the best entry level cymbals. The ZBTs are actually gigable and can hold their own against more expensive cymbals.
I always go Sabian AAX they are the best
The founder of Sabian is actually a descendant of the Zildjian family
IMO it depends, but generally what ive seen is that the cheaper Zildjians are better than cheap sabians but the expensive sabians are WAY better than the expensive zildjans. Plus, im a big AA guy so im biased
Zildjian for their crashes and high hats.. Sabian for their ride cymbals .. just my experience and humble opinion.
As expected the A Custom is brighter over the slightly gongy Sabian (which probably is on account of the differences in thickness etc..) But, it is all down to personal choice and I play Zildjians inc two A Custom Crashes (16" & 14").
Richard J Fletcher why would you play those two sizes that’s horrible
Except for the HHX line, I usually find Sabians to be overly bright and obnoxious. Not entirely sure why people compare the HHX to the K Customs though, cause to me they sound a lot more like A Customs.
Is it wrong that I love them both since they’re technically from same family? I wanted to pick either one from the two, but I just couldn’t. Lol So if I can get myself a kit set someday, I’ll have the best of both cymbals!
Lighter typically equals lower pitch. But bell shape and curvature (profile) can also play a role. But if all things are equal, lighter cymbals are lower in pitch.
Sabian more musical sounding.
SABIAN..sem dúvidas..
The paiste sounded da BEAST
Zildjian, but Sabian sounds great too
Zildjian A's have slighthly dissonant fundamental tones which makes them sound unpleasant to my ear, and they also sound a bit dead. I have never experienced this with Sabians.
Ich Und Nicht Du I agree, sabian is always my go to, my new favorite is the AAX freq 18 inch crash
Logan Shannon
Cool, as soon as i turn 18 i will buy me some HHX Legacy crashes. The 19" is ridiculously well balanced.
Ich Und Nicht Du yeah those HHX’s are insane
Sabian always the bes
Whic kit are u using
Sabian that's my name IRL
zildjian has less attack on crash than sabi but both are great quality
It is strictly a personal choice. I have Zildjians on my LUDWIG and DW kits and Meinl on my Mapex setup.
I like Zildjian's sound but they're not as durable as Sabian's. And Sabians also sound great!!
HHX x-plosion or salad master pot lid?
Yeah Swabian evolution never chocks on sound! Very good!
Zildjian one sounds like my mapex tornado standard crash ride but a bit better since its not wobbley
How come when I hit my cymbals they ring for days?
There are a couple sayings that may help this. First, "Don't hit the cymbal, address it." I heard Glen Power say this, but he was quoting someone else whose name I can't remember. The other saying is similar: "Pet the cymbals, don't hit them," from Steve Goold. He's also said that you shouldn't ever exceed around 60% of your cymbals' full volume range.
I've also heard from Stephen Clark a really good rule of thumb, which is for rock and adjascent genres, the drums should be played loud, while the cymbals played softly. The opposite is true for jazz and its adjacent genres.
Sabian just has that clear tone to them that makes them sound nice when left ringing
Anybody know the song? Or music in this video?
They both sounded good but ima go with zildjian
I gotta pick zildjians overall but compair paiste 2002 to sabians aax
I think i appreciate the brighter sound of the Zildjian, but at the same time, it sounds "cheaper" if that makes any sense. The Sabian sounds heavier and more robust and it doesn't suit the sound of rock or metal that you're playing, the Zildjian sounds snappier and fast.
Would you choose the AAX's or A's (not customs)
Uncomparable
I own the same Bass cab
Translation for guitarists: Martin vs Taylor
i use zildjian and sabian🤘
They are very different cymbals, the sabian is heavier and hammered differently.
Sabian are the best!!!!!
Basically the Zildjian is overall a better cymbal, but the Sabian sounds better if you're just bashing the piss out of it.
A lighter cymbal typically means a lower, throaty, sometimes trashy tone that will be more washy and cut the mix a bit less. The heavier Sabians have that higher pitched cut sound with a short decay. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it sounds like someone is breaking a glass plate over and over again.
Ultimately we're creating a color palate to serve the music.
Sabian AAX exelent sound
*_Your ears are simply deceiving you, because the thinner the cymbal, the faster the response, and lower the pitch... Adversely, the thicker the cymbal, the slower the response but higher the pitch, all other things being equal, that is... But don't let it worry you dude, as most drummers are tone-deaf anyway._*
The aax stage crash isn't in the same ballpark as the A series. A better comp would be the A vs Aax studio.
Nah, thicker cymbals have a lower pitch
@@EsaelPaggin024 Nope. Thicker cymbals has a higher pitch. For exaggeration, compare a Paise Rude to a Sabian Artisan.
@@EsaelPaggin024 Given two cymbals of the same dimensions, the thicker one will be higher pitched.
Your stick action is terrifying
Sabian's brighter cymbals are a LOT more musical! I've got an AAX explosion fast crash 19'' that still gets used ALOT!! And I'm not a bright cymbal guy!
The AAX STUDIOwould make a better comparison to the A not the stage crash. Had the studio and the stage crash on the same kit. By far, the studio sounds better than anything I've ever heard.
I love the glassy speak and then get out of the way tone of A Custom crashes, but I'm not a big fan of the AC rides. I'd rather have an AAX ride if I had to choose only from the two lines.
Oh, and you look a little bit like Steph Curry BTW. Not a dig
I've been looking into getting a set of A Customs for my Crush Chameleon Ash kit, but I was looking at the Zildjian A Sweet ride or the Brilliant K Crash/Ride. The A Custom crashes are something special, but I generally don't think crash cymbals sound that good anywhere below 17", so it's gonna be twin 18"s for me when I eventually decide to go for it.
@@c.r.blankenship9040
I've owned 2 Crush Sublime kits. I liked em but the rack toms were a lil flat, so I sold em and bought a Tama Starclassic bb and a Mapex Saturn IV, and they both sound gobs better than my Crushes did for my taste.
I have tried the 21" A Sweet Rides before but they didn't have enough ping for my playing style. They certainly sound good tho, and they're very popular.
I hear you about the AC 16" crashes. I bought one some years ago and it was a lil weak so I sold it pretty quickly. They're just too thin for smaller crashes, even 17's might be a lil small.
I do own an 18" AC crash and I love it, even more than my 19" AC crash, so you should be happy with those. I've got 2 18" crashes on my kit (and 2 19's) but the other one is an 18" K Dark. I like it just a lil more than the AC, but both are very good.
Cheers and hope you like your crashes 👍
