- Being able to run out of your throw on the flick side is as important as having a throw'n'go backhand. In this video I talk about technique you can use to maximise the acceleration out of your throw without risking travelling, and whilst minimising the risk of a travel being called against you.
Training flick throw'n'go is similar to training throw'n'go backhands - practice throwing whilst standing on one leg, then lean into the throw, then accelerate out. Ultimately we're aiming to be able to catch and throw in under 1 second, on either side of the body, whilst maintaining speed or even redirecting our balance to be able to accelerate out of the throw in a new direction.
Towards the end of this video I talk more about the mechanics of the flick give-go, and how they compare to the mechanics of the off-hand (lefty, usually) throw'n'go. Here's a spoiler: the off-hand throw'n'go has far better mechanics, and with a little practice can be executed smoothly, accurately, and realiably. If you have time to train it, pay attention to the end of the video and become a master of accelerating out of your throws with backhands on either side!
