Driving out of Tromsø is kind of unbelievable

  • On a foggy day I left Tromsø, visited the legendary Arctic Cathedral, and then drove along highways and tiny back roads (some too obscure to even be on my GPS) to the village of Olderdalen. The scenery along this drive rivals anything you can see on the planet: tall rounded mountains rising from fjords, with vast grey stone on top and bright orange trees on the bottom slopes. Mist and fog rolling across the upper reaches of the huge hills - and the occasional birds, sheep, and even humans communing with a very strange and special nature. This is Viking heaven.

I didn't realize how much time it takes to produce these wonderful videos because they seem so seamless and naturally flowing, like a waterfall. Thanks for your work and creativity.

Thanks a lot! Yes there is a lot of footage to sort through from each day, it takes hours and hours. It's also fun, of course

WOW! What beautiful mountains. Like your choice of music, just waiting to see a Viking Longboat go cruising by. BTW, nice pinky action. 😊

With the mist and the fjords and this music, I felt like Vikings were just around every bend too

Me too, I was astounded every time I saw something like that. And that was an especially dramatic one

This video brought tears to my eyes, not only for the misty fog landscape, but because Manndalen is another major focus for me to return to Tromsø. Manndalen hosts the annual July "Riddu Riddu" Sami Festival where indigenous people from around the world are invited to sing, dance, tell stories, sit with a shaman, walk among the rams and reindeer, and free camping; even Oscar winning Buffy Sainte-Marie performed here. Another reason is that it is the burial site of Jan Baalsrud, a Norwegian hero of WWII who chose to rest among the Sami who helped him escape the Nazi; story beautifully told in the movie "The 12th Man". Tussen takk!

You're very welcome. Coincidentally, I just mentioned Buffy Sainte-Marie to a friend of mine last night as we were looking around a record store...!

Bonjour 🙂 The car tunnels were paid?

Hi! They were detected automatically and I paid Hertz for them at the trip's end (tunnels and ferries)
