    I tried those authentx lures for the first time yesterday after getting skunked fishing live bait all day and caught three walleye right in a row. Made a believer out of me.

    You guys have a nice fishery on that river, however them last two fish were more like 7lbs each. If you want some big walleye you have to make it down here to the Detroit river in spring. Fish here can be found in the 14lb range with common 10's caught everyday. You guys rock when it comes to finding the great fishing spots, keep it up.

    I grew up in Rainy River,Ont. and let me tell you....these guy's are not exaggerating about the size and amounts you will catch. I use ANY bright jig and med size minnows and position the boat approx. 75-100 feet from shore and cast INTO the shore (low water) and slowly draw that jig towards the boat. Try this combo and you will be surprised. I just got a 29 1/2"er' the other day!

    No, I don't think so. We would have noticed hook marks in the mouths if we were "recycling" the same fish over and over. There's just an incredible number of big fish in that river in the spring. If you time it right the bite is out of this world.

    You guys should check out the Fox River in De Pere Wisconsin, casting cranks up by the dam prespawn... Consitantly catch 5-8 lb walleyes, with the occasional 10-12 plus. amazing fishery. Same class fish you're catching here. Thanks for another awesome show IDO!

    Sit on shore,cast out and slowly retrieve your jig,or use a pickerel rig and you will bring em' in all day long. 25"-30" fish all day long,but let the big ones go and only keep some 16"-18" fish for a great feed. Put the BIG Mama's back please!

    Where I live we have a very diverse number of species to fish, Rainbow Trout, Cutthroat Trout, Brook Trout, Brown Trout, Cutbow Trout, Splake (Lake Trout-Brook Trout mix) and maybe some other Trout I forgot. Yes, you can catch any kind of fish you want, as long as it's trout.
    However, the biggest Cutthroat I ever caught was on a Marabou jig tipped with a Moxi that I first saw in In Depth Outdoors. I knew they would work for trout. I also like the look on people faces when they see what's on the end of my line.

    you guys should try that technique along the St Lawrence in/around Montreal, CA. When the river rises in the spring, I find myself catching 5-10 lb fish easily from shore, in cloudy water, and strikes routinely come in 1-2 ft of water. so much fun and the fish are alive on the water's surface if timed just right with fly/bug hatch. SOOO much fun!!

      What's the season rules? Nearest I can tell Walleye season in MN starts 5/9 but you're saying in April you can fish the river? Is this the Canada side of things? Thanks for helping me out!

  • @InDepthOutdoorsTV
    @InDepthOutdoorsTV  11 років тому

    The season definitely was not closed and the river where we fished crawls with boats. We just don't show them on camera. Trust that we would never, ever target any species out of season.

    How my god these walleye are so big. They really look like zander not only by the silverish color but also by the size of these fish.
    I only fish zander when the water is high, dirty and when there's alot of current. That and prespawn are the best time for big fat monster.

    Fifth fish and I still do not know the weight of your jigs. I did get water depth right at the end of the first section. Your in a river and have not mentioned the current??nOnce you know what to look for? thats why I'm watching this video How do you read the surface area in relation to shoreline

    • @InDepthOutdoorsTV
      @InDepthOutdoorsTV  8 років тому +2

      Hi! Jig weight depends on flow, depth and speed - but the easiest way to cut through all of this and determine if your Jig is the right size is to know if you are feeling bottom or not. Typically we will size down to the smallest jig possible, that allows us to continue to feel the bottom. You do not want to drag the bottom with a heavy jig, if you are dragging and getting snags you need to downsize. Thanks! A great place to find out more in detail information on these topics is our web forums here: www.in-depthoutdoors.com/

      +josh militz Chris is using a G Loomis NRX and James is using a St. Croix Legend Elite. Might be a Legend Xtreme, not sure if the Xtreme first came out with a cork handle but it is likely an Elite. I own a couple Xtremes and an NRX and I feel the Xtreme is a much more sensitive rod that has tapers I enjoy and just feels stronger. Not to mention quite a bit cheaper...

      I live by grand forks on the mn side of the red river, I've started going in the spring since last year and planning on going more and more. I go in the summer to my friends campground and fish the Canadian side around nestors falls, and i go to the angle like 4 times a year, i know the angle better than the river. But from hearing what they say on these videos about going there in the spring you can find spots from lake chips and such, and looking at Google earth to mark and find landforms. That's what I do to find spots and get ideas on what to look for.

But yes it's a very nice area, 2-4 hours one way and I'm on world class waters and 5+ is getting close to lac seul and I went during summer fished 5 days, I caught a 21 or bigger every night. First fish was a 21 and I wasnt in the water for 30 secs
